Momentum

Maybe I'm wired a bit differently. Well, OBVIOUSLY I'm wired differently in many arenas, when compared to others... But I don't seem to have quick recovery over vacationing. I seem to go through the motions because I know what I need to get done, but it seems recently that I've been working under a cloud. I wake up and find my way to my computer, and somehow start rolling games out. But to be honest, I'm not working efficiently. Months have gone by and I keep saying that I need to stick to a schedule. Sure, I've found minor success doing what I'm doing, but now I want to tweak it and take it to the next level. If I don't, I surely won't be around long.

My outlook seems clear: Work hard in MTSNGs to build a bankroll, while maintaining focus on the long term desire to be a MTT grinder. 45man SNGs seem tricky lately, as my records show little improvement. I seem to do better in 18man SNGs altogether, however I do not like the lack of breaks at 55 past the hour. Maybe I'll toy with moving around my 18man sets w/in my day. I figure I should be mainly focusing on my money maker: $12/180s. However, I realize the need for mixing things up a bit, especially being the way I'm wired. Maybe I can start my days with a $12/180 set. This will take some time to load up a big set, so in a way I'll be easing into my day. Maybe my 2nd set can be my 18man set and then I can see myself finishing out the day with one last set of $12/180s. This last set would also allow me to play a few of the evening MTTs, to close out my day.

Are you ready to see how Kyle Million did last month? Barely playing over 1k SNGs is a bit of a let down. If these numbers could remain similar while running 3k games, I'd be able to see the true potential of my future. I'd like to blame the lack of volume on yet another few weeks being eaten out of my month for traveling. Sure, I thought I'd be able to grind some while at tcarnage's place, but there was very little time that could be set aside for good grinding. Here's the tale of the tape:

MTTs went well for the month as well. I got deep in a few micros after getting back home. Nothing exciting or highly profitable, but I feel those deep runs are needed to encourage you to keep going. Oh ya, I did FT the FTP $30 1r1a on Oct 16th. I came into the FT w/ the chip lead, and I can't even remember what happened that had me going out 4th, but here's the screen shot of that:

Last weekend, I was feeling the urge to play some big games, so I used a Step 4 ticket to register into the Sunday Warm Up and used 13.5k FPPs and got into the Sunday Million as well. I ran deep in the Warm Up to the point where I wasn't putting too much care into the Million. Sure, one day I'll be able to juggle multiple high stakes MTTs, but honestly I'm not even close. I remember making a bad play and telling birddog about it, while we both laughed at the irony of the situation. I was doing too good in the Warm Up to give much care to anything else. Here's a screen shot of just how close it was:

Being as high as 8th in chips, with 211 to go, man was I feeling it!! It felt so good I want more of it! Retardedly, yesterday I went without sleeping the prior night, and after grinding out a few sets of 12/180s, I decided I'd try another Warm Up run. Yeah, I know... A bit silly to do w/out being 100% but I played well but went out 833 of 4747, with 675 paying. I knew I didn't have the stamina to play the entire day, so I registered in the early day $109 as well. With a strong field, with less satty players, I found myself out 368 of 1818, with 216 paying. Sure, I fell short of the goal, but I look at it as fuel to the fire.

Every time I get a stack or seem to be going deepish in a bigger tournament, I start envisioning my name being mentioned in the Pocket 5's Tournament Review. I know I'll get there, and now that I'm on track to strictly be playing $12/180s, I feel I'll get there sooner than later. I see other MTSNG grinders playing $12/180s along with their 18 and 45man sets. Even though I can manage, I feel I can make more per hour IF I don't overload my sets. Really, sets only start off slow, but as you get to 12/16/20 games, eventually you should be close to running optimal, without needing to load too many games to fill out the set. We'll try it for a month or so and see where we get. It might get to the point where I'll need to get more volume in for other reasons such as VPPs, but I know I can get in 100 games of $12/180s per day by starting a set and just letting it continuously load. As long as I have a break every hour, I can go for a long time. I'll probably run my first for 3 hours of registering, while allowing around 1 hour for the set to wind down.

At 100 games per day, we're talking $1200 in total expenses, so even if I get down to 20% ROI (lifetime I'm 35% over 937 games for $3958) I'll be looking at making over $200 per day. Over 20 scheduled days, we're talking $4k per month profit and I feel that's all on the low end. A couple things could happen, either I'll get so much data gathered from all the players in the 12/180s that I can adjust my play accordingly, OR the regulars will pick up on my game and I'll get called more in the late stages. The latter will only mean I'll then need to readjust to their adjustments. My concern is this has become a problem for me in 45man play. I have to be honest and say I just don't think I have what it takes to play those long term. And I definitely lose out the more games I put in my sets. Believe it or not, 18s seem more manageable, at least lately. It's funny, because I used to feel the opposite about 18s but I run with the data.

I had a talk w/ JackBileDuct about my playing fulltime. He felt I should be killing it by now and making $5k+ per month already. He was expecting me to say that I play X amount of games per day and run at $XX per hour. Because I'm trying out different things, different games and different buyins, I don't think I'm able to get firm data due to the smaller sample sizes. But after a few months now, I'm still afloat and I'm making progress each month. The more data that comes in, the more comfortable I feel with what I need to do to continue to succeed. After this month, if I can log another 1k games in the $12/180s, and maintain over a 20% ROI, I'll be one happy camper. I'm actually going to try to get 1k games in before this next Sunday. I've also turned from playing through the nights, to playing more a regular shift during the day. The higher MTSNGs just don't load enough at nights. Back in the $3-6 days there was plenty of action, but it's just one of the adjustments I'm willing to make. One last thing about adjustments, I just Sharkscoped some things and found my prior day off, Friday, was actually my most profitable (ROI) day of the week. Overall, it's also by biggest volume day, so the numbers aren't just hyped by a few wins. I'm now taking Mondays and Saturdays off. I'm -12% lifetime in SNGs on Saturdays so now I have a new day off. TBH, it'll be hard to NOT play any games on Mondays so I won't be too worried if I find myself working on those days too.

I almost forgot about a FT I made in the nightly $27.50 turbo on Stars. I took 4th for $1680. Here's the screen shot of that:

Pics from my Vegas Trip

My best run in came with Gavin Smith. My first weekend in Vegas, I was given 3 nights accomedations along with a free $500 entry into the poker/blackjack tournament. I ran into him prior to starting day one. The poker structure sucked, as expected, giving 5,000 chips with 100/200 blinds that never went up, within a 45 minute playing window. I was 2nd in chips until the last hand. I folded JTo, which ended up boating, while the 3rd placed player doubled up w/ AJo for Ace high.

I ran into Bryan "The Icon" Micon, at a Venetian $120 2nd chance nightly tournament. At the same table was Anthony Rapp, pictured below, famous for his roles in Dazed and Confused and Roadtrip.

Here's a picture of me hanging with the drummers from the Blue Man Group, along with an inset picture of me and one of the main guys.

And here's a picture of the rental car. Nothing too crazy, but much nicer than the economy rentals.

Here's me driving the strip at night. I'm keeping identities private for obvious reasons. I like this picture in the sense that I look all grown up. LOL

I don't have any pictures of Konrad and I hanging out during our trip. I do however have some videos that I captures from my iPod Nano. Video recording is a new feature, however I did not realize how sensitive the sound was, so I apologize in advance. WARNING, some of the videos have horribly loud sound!!

I'm home, but leaving soon

I got home and got some much needed sleep. I might have played a terrible set before arriving at my pillow. I might have even donked off $485 ($85 was the working profit) at a $2/4 NLHE full ring game. I'll give the excuse of thinking he was bluffing a draw versus my pair of aces with kicker troubles. One day I'll believe people until I have a reason to feel otherwise. But that's all good when you're Kyle Million. The next day I woke up and played some MTTs, hoping to score before I got into my true 18 and 45 man MTSNG grinding. I even played the $50 + 5, 1 rebuy, 1 add-on, MTT and got to an early point where I gambled with an OESD that I flopped, but hesitated by making move on the turn. The river didn't help, so I was left with 30... THIRTY chips, and then proceeded to TAKE IT DOWN!!! Yup, I found myself heads up, with roughly a 5 to 3 lead. $4600ish for 2nd, $7200ish for 1st. I decided to talk about a chop, and secured $6200 while leaving $157.50 for the winner. And I took that down too.

Positive energy FOR THE WIN! I gotta say, that trip helped me remember to stay positive. By trying to stay in that mood, you can't help but be more decisive with your actions and you end up not second guessing yourself. I've read you should go with your first instinct in poker. But I've also heard to think it out and replay the hand and bring in any other tells possible. Well, what happens when you have your initial reaction before replaying the hand in your head? Obviously it's possible to come up with a different answer. Then what?

So yesterday I accomplished a goal: I achieved Platinum Star. w00t! I know it's really not that big of a deal, but it meant something to me. I went on a 2 week vacation... I moved up in stakes, and still didn't hurt myself (yet!) The last 2 hour window I needed 223 VPPs, which equates to 46 games at the $12/45 and/or $16/18 level. However, I included any 18 or 45man up to $38 last night. I ran 32 games at once, for the most expensive set I've ever done. Half the games were $27s and $38s, so I was obviously stretching the bankroll out a bit to hit this silly goal. I've been a very busy man, and yet I still happened to hit that 7,500 VPPs. Now that I'm playing higher stakes, what happens if I can do 25,000 VPPs for the last 3 months of the year? Get this... I'd be Supernova! I've already got the goal to be Supernova in 2010, before the WSOP, but still this is mildly attainable. If I can crank out 3,000 games a month (which should be possible since Vers does like 6k? insano!) then it's looking possible.

Well, we'll see. I still have one more vacation lined up. I'm heading off to Las Vegas for a bit. I've booked the next 2 weekends with Golden Nugget. They've comped me for 3 nights and entry into their $80,000 Wheelin' & Dealin' Blackjack and Poker Tournament, running October 2 - 4, 2009. It's a $500 entry, with both tournaments offering a seperate prize pool with $20k to the winner of each. Should be hilarious to see the horrible structure. Then the next weekend I've booked another 3 free nights and their giving me a $500 VISA card! Sick huh? I'll also be staying at tcarnage's while not at the hotel. I'll be able to grind online while there, and hang out with another cool poker player so I can imagine some fun times along with the occasional cash game and pit run. The Venetian runs daily tournaments at Noon and 7pm, so I'm sure you can find me there many nights.

Once this trip is over, I'll be happy to get back home. Even now, it feels so good lounging around in my robe, procrastinating the day's chores. I need food soon, and I've also got a mission to return a busted travel bag. Good thing I kept the receipt! I'm looking for a better quality bag, for sure. I also feel I need some new shirts. Dressier shirts though. I might even get a sports coat cuz I wanna feel like money when I'm in Vegas! I tried getting a Hugo Boss jacket that Bond18 recommended, but Dillard's doesn't carry them. They had this rad looking Ralph Lauren jacket though, so I might pick that up. I'm way to lazy to go to anything outside of Tucson Mall right now, but a few weeks have passed... Maybe now they'll have more Hugo in their store.

Well, I guess I gotta get a shower going. I'll check in, with another blog entry, when I'm in Las Vegas. I was going to get spy camera so I could take video of me returning the busted bag. But again, I'm lazy by nature and the task of buying said spy camera never was accomplished.

Have fun at the tables.

Hi Suckout City

Greetings from Florida!! Well, I've got just a few more days in the panhandle state. Last night Kwamie took me up to "Club 52", the local poker room, which sits above the Melbourne (dog) Race Track. The room itself is pretty huge, with a bar smack dab in the middle. There were a ton of tables NOT being used, but there were about 10 tables running at near full capacity. They spread 1/2-2/4 Limit, along with 1/2-5/10 NLHE. I didn't hear of any other game types being played, but here's the kicker: $100 max buy-in for ALL tables. Imagine playing 5/10, and starting with 10 big blinds. I didn't even want to entertain my inner degen.

Instead, Kwamie wanted to take this opportunity to sit at the same table as your's truly and watch me in action. On the ride over he said, "When you make it big, and on TV (obv WPT Final Table, or WSOP) I can look back at this memory and say that I played at the same table as Kyle Million!" I'm nobody special, that's for sure, but I do have ambition and drive. I'd love nothing more than to use poker as a means to establishing my dream business: A restaurant/club/weekend wedding ceremony establishment. We live in America people (most of my readers, anyways) and dreams come true. This is the land of the free (somewhat), and the home of the brave (most def!) We truly can do anything we put our minds too. John Ritter once said, "Where there's a will, there's a way!" I believe that. I truly believe we think/act/speak things into fruition. That's why I try to stay positive. If we dwell on the negative things in life, more negative things will surface. Garbage in, garbage out.

I've never seen so many people wrapped around the idea of a Badbeat Jackpot. Everyone limps into hands (we're talking NO LIMIT here folks) with an array of junk starting hands. All they talk about is that damn Jackpot. One guy comes to the table, thinks he's being dealt in the hand and when realizing he was skipped, he starts berating the dealer and making a stink by saying, "You're glad we didn't hit the Jackpot, otherwise I woulda been making a fuss." Excuse me sir, but it's not our fault you were busy chumming it up with others as you moved from the limit game to our table. See, he was all excited about winning 3 pots in a row at 2/4 Limit, and apparently breaking up the table. So while he was gloating to people at another table along the way, he didn't really hear accurately what the dealer was saying. The prior Badbeat Jackpot was hit some 8 months ago, and yet they care sooo much about not missing action. Obviously, this can only be good for those seriously there to grind and make a true profit... However, those types are far a few between from the action I saw while there. Again, I'm no pro (not yet, anyways) but sheesh these guys are were easy pickens.

If you scroll through the Youtube playlist above, you will see some more videos of my stay in Florida. Last Saturday, we went on a chartered deep sea fishing trip. There's a video of Kwamie messing with a baby octopus that someone on our boat caught. There's also a video of a Mahi (dolphin) fish being hooked into the boat and flopping around. Personally, I caught a sea bass while Kwamie reeled in a trigger fish and a mangrove snapper. It was an awesome trip even though we returned to port while it was sprinkling a little. The weather held up great though, however the overcast probably cost us better fishing. It wasn't a trip about the fish though... It was about two brothers hanging out and enjoying each others' company. Kwamie's shoulder was acting up and he was in pain for a good portion of the trip, but he held up great and we had a blast. Here's a picture of the coolest deck hand in the world, stringing up the day's catch (along w/ a few red snappers, you can see a baby shark that someone caught, lying on the table. Also, my sea bass is hiding on the table at the far right.):

A bonus picture of Kwamie holding the octopus:

I've eaten so much Publix fried chicken, it's unreal. I'm not sure I've gained much weight though, as I'm not drinking anymore and only eating twice a day at best. I know my metabolism would do worlds of good if I could manage to eat 4 to 5 times a day, but I digress. I'll get there eventually, along with getting back to working out at LA Fitness. So last night, after poker, we had a great Win-Win gameplan. If I won, I'd get some Publix fried chicken in celebration. If I lost, I'd get some Publix fried chicken to cheer me up. w00t!! Well, I'm happy to report I scraped a $75 profit while working less than three hours at Club 52. We left around 8:30pm, while eye-balling our clocks to make sure we made it to Publix before their closing time of 9pm.

We pull up right as they are about to close the doors, I run in, and rush over to the deli station. They had one box of chicken that was set up to sell individually. My suspensions were that the workers were eye-ballin' the chicken to take home. The reason I say this is they are proud of the fact that they throw away their chicken at the end of the night. Keeps their image of "fresh fried chicken" in tact. However, as I'm trying to buy this chicken, the lady behind the counter acts like it's impossible to buy it from her (it wasn't packaged and ready to go like it normally is.) She says they have pieced out chicken that I'd have to buy at separate piece pricing... FINE WITH ME!!! Then out of nowhere she had to go ask her manager if she could sell it that way. Um, I thought you just explained how I could purchase said chicken, why the big fuss? Eventually, Dana, this sweet old lady who came from a back room (I'm pretty sure it led to Heaven, cuz she was a Godsend) packaged up my chicken, 6 piece (they sell 8 pieces, pretty standard) along w/ 2 chicken strip tenders, without any delay. Bam, what do you know... An 8 piece!! Anyways, the drama I'm willing to go through for Publix chicken. I'd climb mountains for this stuff, and you should know by my large stature that that's pretty impossible w/out the right motivation. Last time I came to Florida, July of 2006, I thought it was SO important that I got a picture taken:

Uh... Yeah, that's the kind of dork I am. But honestly, you all should know this by now. And to think, you still come back for more! So it must not be that bad, LOL. As much fun as I've had on my trip to the east coast, I'm ready to come home. I miss my normal, day to day, grind. I miss normalcy and all that comes with my basic life. It takes trips like this to put life in perspective and reiterate what is important in life. I can't grind 18 & 45 man SNGs while I'm here. I've tried 2 sessions and failed miserably at both. I did make a final 3 table run in the $15k KO on FTP. The buy-in ($70 + $5) is over my normal entry, but I was doing pretty good in cash games and knowing I was only going to play a few tournies, it worked out great. I've picked up a new desire for cash games. Having Evan in the house, along with just being in someone else's environment, I found it easier to get into full ring cash games and just relax. I pulled up my results for time I've been here:

I've probably lost about that much just in SNGs on Stars, so I'm barely up for the trip. Somehow my bankroll has increased a few hundred dollars from the time I left Arizona, so good job me! I miscalculated how many games I'll need to reach Platinum this month. I'm going to need a bit over 500 games at my current level. I'm thinking if the first day goes well (hoping to get 150 games in, when I get back to AZ) I'll be able to play the last day of the month at the $27/45 level. By cranking out another day of 120-150 games, I should be there... Along with getting my deposit bonus cleared, this month is shaping up to be a decent month, considering the trip and the fact that I'm still early in my "true" development.

I almost forgot... Sunday we went to Beef O'Bradys for the AZ Cardinals/Jax Jaguars game due to the blackout (if they don't sell enough tickets they black out the local broadcasting.) We figured Direct TV wouldn't fail us, as Beefs has the Sunday Ticket, however they also blacked out the game to everyone in Florida. What a stupid price to pay, given that Jacksonville sold 17,000 less season tickets this year. Kwamie has all but given up on his Jaguars, and I can't blame him. He's not gonna see one game this season, unless it's on the road and the stars align. Anyways, the wings were da bomb!! I went with the standard medium heat, honey and fresh crushed garlic. Evan had a blast and was able to hoot and holler amongst all the other rabid fans. I think he found his element. I'll leave you with a few more pictures:

East Coast Travels

Hi everyone! How we all doing? I just wrapped up a nice trip to Atlantic City. The gambling hit within my budget to lose, and yes I did just that. We DID have 3 out of 5 crew members hitting the final table of Taj Majal's midnight tournament the first night. birddog2631 took 5th, I took 4th (as you'll hear me recount "The Hand" 8 times too many in the below video,) while chipolino went on to chop heads up. Here is a video, cut into 3 parts (just click the arrow on right to see next one in series):

I had a great time hanging out with everyone. The group was small enough where I didn't end up feeling like I missed an opportunity to hang out with anyone. When we went to Las Vegas in the summer, I regret not spending more time w/ most of the guys, especially mattyd86 and postbanken. Vegas was soooo big, and so many of us went, it just seemed like time went by too fast and everyone was spread out doing various things. This time around we mainly stuck close and did more things as a group.

We definitely went during a slow period. It could have been partly due to the economy, but most tourists show up during the weekends, NOT Monday thru Thursday. But it might have just been a blessing. With it so slow, they might just have needed our business enough for my loud personality to be tolerated. And boy did I ever put the staff of Taj Mahal's poker room to the task. I got cut off from drinks when we hit the final table of the midnight tournament Monday night/Tuesday morning. Scotch on the rocks were tasty and I was working the drunk loud guy to perfection. Fortunately, I was able to control playing too many hands and each time I had a good portion of my chips in the pot, I was ahead. I guess the new Kyle Million, being tight, spilled over into my live play as well. Tuesday night I got to the final 20 or so players, after spending all night being the EXACT OPPOSITE of the night before. The contrast was pretty sick: instead of causing a ruckus and being loud, I was as quiet as a mouse w/ my iPod loud enough to tune out if needed, but still able to hear the table banter.

I didn't get around to eating that 6lb. lobster at Dock's Oyster bar. Time just didn't permit, but luckily birddog and I ate lunch Wednesday at Metropolitan w/in the Borgata. I had a bowl of the best clam chowder I've ever tasted, and we each ate a dozen Oysters and drank a few Sierra Nevada pints. I got a few sessions of craps in, and didn't pull money off the table at any point. A few hundred was lost in Blackjack and Three Card Poker, along with some up and downs in cash games (probably was in the red $300-$500 playing cash throughout the trip.) I played $1/2 NLHE and won at Tropicana but lost a bit more at Taj Mahal. But the Taj had $5/10 Limit Stud Hi only (wish H/L but w/e) and I got to rock that w/ quaid745 for a good amount. My first session was a quick $300 loss, but I came back later on to win $70 or so in the second session (after losing a $300 in NLHE, when quaid recommended the move over there cuz he felt I "had an edge"... obv not!) We finally left the cash games around 8-9am, for what amounted to a long stint. Here are some picks of Q-baller getting caught w/ egg on his face... LITERALLY! (followed by other pics of the trip in AC):

And now introducing the fellas that this trip was planned for, so we could meet them. Starting with Jakuta:

And now the one, the ONLY... birddog:

Chippy was in Vegas with us, but in case some don't know what he looks like:

I'll leave you with a bit of humor. I had horrible luggage left over from the marriage. I realized how bad the luggage had become, after the Vegas trip this summer. I decided I'd buy nicer luggage that would, supposedly, stand the test of time. I didn't want too many pieces, so I opted for a huge duffle bag I found at Sears made by Dockers. Originally $180, I paid $70 on super-sale!!! w00t (or so I thought) It's not like I over packed, in fact I had 5lbs to spare for the 50lb weight restriction per bag. Getting it out of the shuttle (from Philly airport to AC) I ripped one of the handle straps. I didn't pay much attention to it at the time, because I was already late 90min from having to wait for my shuttle, which I had a reservation for (nothing gets me mad more than missed expectations.) Deciding to limp it along into the room, and thereby throughing it under a table, it never received attention again until Thursday morning at 9am.

See, quaid and I had talked about shuttling back to Philly that morning, but I really didn't like the service so we thought we'd hop a ride back w/ birddog and Jakuta. Welp, birddog, Jakuta and I got back to the rooms about at about 8am and soon afterwards realized birddog was in no shape to drive. I realized I needed to wake quaid up and find out whether we'd be taxiing or calling the shuttle, if available on such short notice. I woke quaid up at 9am, called the shuttle, and the only spot that made sure quaid made his flight in time required us to be picked up at 9:45am. This all being done in haste and with both of us still needing to pack up and shower. I was drinking all night, and sweating like my normal beastly self, so I definitely needed to get in gear, and quick!!! When I started to pack up, I was reintroduced to my prior issue... However, it was not until then where I found out the zipper line was attached to the same stitching as the handle. My zippers had fallen off the track completely and obv this isn't like a coat you can just fix... I was left w/ my main compartment exposed w/out closure. Being too big to carry on, I was faced w/ having to check it in while not knowing how to secure my goods. I thought about buying 100 safety pins, but wasn't sure if that'd work out. Suddenly, my inner-ghetto came through with a BRILLIANT idea:

Concierge + duct tape = WIN!! Anytime you get in a pinch at a hotel, call the Concierge, they probably have something to help you, along w/ helping you plan fun activities and w/e normal people use them for. Okay, another trip report is coming up soon. I'm in Florida right now. If you feel you can't wait, you can see the other videos by "AZBiggun" on Youtube for some teasers as to how I'm spending the rest of my vacation. I'll keep in touch!

Have fun at the tables! (I hear FTOPS is gonna get worked by our Skype crew wUtWuT)

Everyday Normal Guy

First off, I wanna give a shout out to a long time blog reader of mine: "biakkax" on PokerStars. Last night I wrapped up my SNG set and didn't want to go to bed quite yet so tcarnage mentioned we should get into a HORSE SNG. Instead, we got in some cash games. We started off at $1/2 Omaha H/L Fixed Limit. birddog2631 joined us and on the side got into a $2/4 HORSE game that tcarnage and I eventually crawled over too. That's where I met biakkax. He seemed like a nice fellow, sharing that he was a stow away from the BurnleyMik blog. BurnleyMik, if you still read: HELLO SIR!!! biakkax was witness to haters at the table calling me, basically a POS. I had to explain that this was my "fun game" and I was a rookie to HORSE strategy, even though I made $160 overall from both tables. One of the haters actually checked out the blog and seemed to cool down after stopping by Suckout City. I guess he realized I was just a regular Everyday Normal Guy!!!

Which brings me to a great find, Jon Lajoie. I wish I could say I've been down from the get down, but hey I became a fan after 3 seconds of watching. Suckout City is proud to give props to Jon Lajoie, a comedic MC:

"... And I'm pretty good at making paper planes!" LMAO Here is the first video I saw of his:

But seriously? This next one is the BEST!!! THE BEST DAMN VIDEO/SONG ON THE INTERNET...EVER!

Knock, knock... Who's there?
It's me... Wondering why you're not naked?
Knock, knock... Who's there?
It's me again... Still wondering why you're not naked?

ROTFLMAO. This guy is a comedic genius. I'd highly recommend scoping out the various videos on his channel, including Michael Jackson is Dead, Sunday Afternoon and Everyday Normal Crew.

On the poker front, I didn't get to play that many SNGs this month. I was sick for 2 weeks, and still have a bit of a Strep Throat Hangover today. It took me a week of throwing up before I went to the ER, on Monday. From there they ran a slew of tests, making sure my appendix and gull bladder were okay. Years after hearing this for the first time, again another doctor mentioned concern for my liver enzyme levels. I didn't even consider myself a drinker these days, but apparently I haven't shaken this bad liver issue. So now, until I can figure out how to better this, I'll be cutting extremely down on drinking. I feel limiting my drinking to when I'm traveling and visiting friends will help my liver in the long run. I don't think I need to quit alcohol all together, and yes I'm a bit selfish in my planning since I'm leaving next month to Atlantic City and want to have a few drinks with birddog2631 and the crew.

Yup, next month I'm meeting a few peeps in Atlantic City for some good times. birddog2631, Jakuta and quaid745 will be making this trip. Since birddog and Jakuta missed out on meeting us during our Las Vegas trip a few months back, quaid and I wanted to come visit them. I don't mind another excuse to travel and gamble it up w/ the fellas. After I leave Atlantic City, I'm going to fly out to Orlando, Florida and visit my best friend Kwamie! Madden 2010 just came out so we'll be playing a good amount of that along with doing some fishing. We're even planning a Saturday morning trip to go deep sea fishing and renting a charter boat. Should be seriously good times.

I have around 120 games to go, at $12+ levels, to hit Gold Star. I wish I could have put in a lot more volume, because at the rate I was going ($.97 per game) I could have achieved my profit goal for the month. Deciding to put a bit more money online, I'm now rolled to play $12/45s and $16/18s. To be honest, I never thought I'd be good at 18 man SNGs but something has clicked in my game recently. My confidence is high and I'm making a steady move upward in my SNG play. Chipolino was right, you just gotta push through and eventually you'll see light again. And the whole time you're going through your break even and downward spirals, you're learning, you're getting better, and hopefully you're able to take better notes and adjust to the regulars. This happened for me, and I can only hope it continues. I won't mind break even spots in the future because I know how easy it is to get sucked into the negative mindset. Instead, I've been positive through this entire process and am starting to reap some rewards.

Next month will basically be cut in half with my travels. So my goals will be:

- Maintain GoldStar (should be easy now that I'm in higher buy-ins)
- Play 1,000 games (this would be 5K VPP, 2,500 away from Platinum)
- Make $1/game to get to my $1k for the month profit goal.
- Finish watching Tigerbalm's videos on SitNGoGrinders.
- Plug leaks in my push/fold using SNG Wizard.

I think all of these goals are doable, and with being so close to Platinum, I might find time to put in some more volume, but we'll keep it reasonable for now. Below is my PokerTracker 3 graph for the month. I should be able to rock out another $150 profit with the remaining games I need to play for the month.

I'm a start this out with a...

BING BLANG BLAOW!!!

I pay tribute to the classic:

That video and/or song (yeah, you can download it here: Link is on their YouTube video. I mean, it's on my iPod for fuque sakes. This post celebrates my getting my final check. Oh yeah baby, it's on now! I'm giving myself 6 months. I'll go back to work if I need to. But right now... This shit right now? This shit is to finalize my past.

Finalizing my divorce and completely separating from that has been tough. It took a bit over a year, and I'm sure I'll have lingering effects for some time to come. But I feel as if my life ready to begin, fresh, with a new start. I'm talented in many arenas and have what it takes to be successful in anything I do in life.

That being said, I will live and play these next 6 months without fear. For I know it's not the end of the world if I don't succeed. However, I will come out a better person and more than likely I'll be able to continue living a dream.

Have fun at the tables!

Playing tournaments is fun

That was in a $11 $15K Guarantee on PokerStars. Shit happens, but I really liked seeing the replayer embedded from PokerHand.Org. We'll see if better hands prevail. I'm doing a bit better in SNGs. Nothing major to report but I'm definitely doing better. I'm hoping the improvements continue from month to month.

Have fun at the tables.

I can't be held down for long.

I woke up this morning with one thing on my mind: Getting my papers signed and out the door in time for the mailman. The papers I speak of are my termination of employment papers. It's official, I'm now jobless. My calculations were lower than what seems to be coming down the pipeline though. Today, I looked out my front door and I had a UPS letter hanging in the security door. It was my last payroll check. I just got the normal direct deposit check a few days ago, so this was to pay me current: My last 48hrs on the clock and my 82 hours of vacation I had saved up. With this, and a little money I had in the bank, I went down to a used car dealership. I looked on Craigslist and Autotrader, and had Jimmy (doylesays' brother) take me around town. We lucked into a decent ride at our first stop:

$2,600 out the door. I guess the price was dropped to $2200 to take care of tax, title, license, lot fees. It feels good to buy it outright and know I need to do little else. I was going to buy from a private dealer, but this was a great deal and their onsite mechanic does a once over before they put it out to sell. Probably not the best but it's better than relying on a private seller to do the upkeep. Also, this afforded me the luxury of not needing to worry about the title licensing or the emissions test.

So, I figured I calculated pretty conservatively but now that things are playing out it's looking really good. I'll make a few thousand selling the stock they granted me thsi year, and I'm saving my 401k for now and debating on when/if to cash it out. It's not enough to worry about retiring, but it would get me another 6mo. to a year in living expenses if the market stays or increases slightly. I'm going to keep it working for me for now since I won't need it. My last check, which will come within the 25 days, will cover my first 6mo. living expenses as well have money set aside in case I need to deposit online.

So, even AFTER I exhaust my severance package money, I'll still have my stock and my 401k to fall back on for many months to come. I hope and pray that poker works out, and I've made good decisions to ensure that I have a good year to 18 months to accomplish this goal I've set out on. Speaking of goals, I didn't hear from anyone so I'm going to be lazy and go with the list I gathered up prior. It's an adaptable list, that should remain the same for months to come.

Goals for August, 2009:

1. 2,000 games played (SNGs and MTTs combined)
2. 5,000 VPPs, I don't think this is the month for Platinum, but I'll be closer.
3. SNG ROI 15% (after noting regs, I feel I can cut down on my donking)
4. MTT ROI 5% (focusing on Sunday MTTs, playing 100 should provide a few deep runs)
5. Steadily move tables played from 8 to 12 tables. Setbacks have kept my games low.

Have fun at the tables!

The One

"I'm the one always causin affairs...
So every time your bitch burp,
you smell my balls in the air!"

- From "The One" by Slaughterhouse

Props to Slaughterhouse. Album out August 11th. The songs I've heard from them all all fire. It's always nice to have hot chics in the video as well!

We conceded the contest. We are down a man, and Jakuta passes him, along with me, in total games. The only way for us to be close is for both of us to nudge him out and keep wins going. I'm even in wins, give or take a few, so I felt I could have made a push but in a way thankful it's over. Birddog2631 was as beast in ROI and mattyd86, omg... What a robot!! Good game guys!!

What was cool is everyone had their own take on the contest. Some saw it as a way to motivate them, some saw it as just side fun, but I really took it upon myself to work hard and put in volume. There were many days I felt like taking it easy, but kept the volume up because I knew it was helping the team. The $50 bucks wasn't the issue, but something bigger came over me this month and I didn't mind the pressure. It made me work hard, and I'm a better player for it. I stuck to my guns and came out with a upward trend on my graph. I can only expect better things to come. Here's pic of my Sharkscope graph for the month and the breakdown of games in PT3:

Still to come are goals for August, which I'd recommend everyone have a list of short term and long term goals for your poker playing. Whether you play as a hobby or are a long lasting professional, goals are awesome to accomplish and keep you motivated. You gotta work towards something! I'd like to give a shout out to Postbanken, he's on a mission to crush the $4.40/180s and is doing a fine job already! I look forward to playing more with him during the days and picking his brain on optimal 4/180 play.

Resources, where have you been all my life?

Well, better late than never. Sure, I've used OPR and Sharkscope before, but this last month I've really increased my scoping. But the real meat wasn't discovered until late last night. I was waiting for my PC to virus scan and do some things, so I opened up PT3 and tried using new functions. I decided info on my late game would prove the most important. I'd like to share this , in hopes that I might get feedback on better ways to pump info out of my database, but ALSO in the case this has been overlooked by others and proves to be helpful to some.

Common Data for each Excel Report:
- PokerStars
- June 1st to present
- 45 man turbo SNGs
- Blinds 200/400 and up

Unique exported Excel Reports:
- Total hands won
- Total hands lost
- Amount $ won
- Amount $ lost
- Difference $ won
- Difference $ lost

I didn't do it yet, but it'd might be interesting to see this broken down by each blind level for obvious reasons, but as long as there were enough total hands played, I was happy with what I was looking for. I wasn't looking to really exploit my PT3 information any deeper. Instead what I was looking to do was find the people I played a good amount of hands with, late, and then take the top 50 players that I play good and bad against. Taking those names, I searched Sharkscope for overall games and then again for games from June 1st to present. Doing this provided me with this message, which I thought I'd NEVER get:

Obviously, I shouldn't need to do this everyday. Starting next month I NEED to get into a 5 day poker work week... This team prop bet has me working too many days, and I'm already slipping in games played again. However, next month I'll have 5 day poker work weeks, and I'll use my off days to watch videos, read, comb over my database, and review HHs.

So anyways, what do you think? Was that helpful to anyone? Or does anyone have a great way to purge data from their PT3 database? Reasons14 mentioned HEM before in comments, but I haven't gotten ready for that yet. After each set I'm requesting that number of SNG tourney summaries, and importing them through email to PT3. It's probably more work that needed versus HEM, but good for now.

The good news is I'm trending upwards with a solid last few days. It's possible my July 25 total games is messed up with a duplicate Tourney Summary being entered. Not sure, but I've found this glitch where some days it shows 15-20 wins where my best day was July 2nd, when I won 9 out of 197 games. I've haven't played nearly as many games since, and obviously nowhere over 9 wins in a day. Needless to say, IF there is a glitch, at least it reloads ALL my games, because it doesn't affect my ROI or net won, which is what I'm concerned with. Anyways, I'm done for now. Look out for goals on August 1st. Thanks for everyone that reads my shizz. Here's nice little score from tcarnage. He was talking at Gavin Griffin's table and mentioned yours truly in the rail:

Thank God it's Friday!

Welp, another week down and I'm in a good spot. I've been feeling very isolated in life, lately. Obviously, that's going to happen when I work from home. No more water cooler talk, unless I want to talk to myself while getting coffee or water (which DOES happen.) Thank God for Skype! I'm getting baptized by fire in SNGs this month. It could be worse. My friend chipolucho is having a -$700 month within the same amount of games and mostly w/in the same entry fees. He's actually the captain of my team for this prop bet, but surprisingly we're in decent shape w/ 3/4ths of our team having dismal ROI. We're doing good in volume and I'm barely holding on by 2 games for most wins in 45s/180s.

Going out tonight, so I won't get any volume in until tomorrow. But I'm poised for a long, poker induced, weekend bender. This "should" be my last Sunday where I'm not focusing on MTTs. The few MTTs I have played these last few weeks have been great. I got close in a $7.50 turbo a few weeks back and I can't think of more than one hand that I played wrong. It went THAT GOOD! I was able to chip up and be patient at just the right stages in the game until we get down to the last 2 tables and I had to make moves based on blinds. It's exciting to see the progress in my MTT play, after spending so much time working on my game in 45s.

LOL, some regulars who play me might not think I'm improving... But that's the result of my looser shove range when we get deeper. I've really tightened up a lot early, and there are plenty of fish in the sea who are willing to go broke quick. My struggle is when we get down to 2 tables and beyond, I know I need to work on my ranges. Not just MY ranges, but I need to go into PT3 and really find the weak players who are playing later in the game. From there, I'll need to take notes and get those into PokerStars for future games. Sometimes I can find the time to make a quick note, but I have Table Ninja set up to close the table once I'm outed. So I'm missing some key note opportunities. Without needing to take many notes, I'm starting to remember certain regulars plays and it's cool to see the brain power increasing. But the real opportunity will come when I start narrowing the regulars ranges down. Again, that damn insta-table closing is blindfolding my chance to know where I need to improve. Basically, watch out for next month! I only see things improving.

I can't help wanting to play higher, but I'm really concerned with my bankroll now and that's a great relief. I used to be a bankroll buster, knowing I could redeposit or borrow from friends. Obviously, it's a whole new ball game now but I'm starting to settle into this lifestyle some. I know there will be at least 5-10 more inflection points with poker JUST w/in the next year as there have already been 3 definable points w/in the last 2 months. Get ready for my next entry... I'll be posting goals for August. June provided a "onboarding" period where I adjusted to my new digs. July provided my staging grounds, where I've been able to see what I can and cannot do. I'm learning my limitations and feel I can put forth better efforts with goals in mind. If I can ask my readers for some kind input: I'm looking for a concentrated list of 5-8 goals that I can focus on during next month. Here's what I'm thinking and I'd like to iterate with you all before August 1st:

1. Games played (thinking 2k+, current MTD ~ 1700)
2. Move my games from $3 to $12 45 man SNGs
3. Platinum Star (Gold 2mo in a row now, but I'll have to play $12s to get there)
4. SNG ROI 15% (after noting regs, I feel I can cut down on my donking)
5. MTT ROI 5% (focusing on Sunday MTTs, playing 100 should provide a few deep runs)
6. Steadily move tables played from 8-12 to 16-20 (is that too many too soon?)

Tonight sounds like everyone is geeked to go karaoke at Riley's. Riley's is an awesome hole in the wall spot that is so pimp! It looks like your normal biker, trailer park neighborhood bar that is bangin on Friday nights. I was very impressed with the talent that showed up the night I went. Everytime we turned around, more hotties were rollin' in. It didn't matter if you wore a t-shirt and ripped jeans or were dressed to impress. Everyone just fits into this melting pot of a bar. They got a horseshoe pit in the back, to give you the idea of how damn gangsta this spot is. Drinks are cheap, walls are dirty, and the sound system sucks, but MAN we had a blast!! I'll see if I can get a few picture snapped of the festivities.

Speaking of pictures, I ran across this mean mug a while ago. It's me when I was 24-26 years old. The chops were beefy IMO, eventually having to cut them off when I messed up aligning a shave.

And this is the van I used to rock (peep that gangsta vanity plate...legit!):

A quick check up

Let's start with business. Here's my Poker Tracker 3 graph for the month of "money won":

Can we consider that a 1,000 game "break even" spot? On the lighter side, it looks like my EKG graph is showing signs of a healthy heart rate! :P But damn, we're getting close to the end of the competition. AND I'm getting close to being completely off payroll. I'm almost jobless, and as you can see I can't crank out profit to save my life. Ironically, I'm in fair position for the competition. As of yesterday, I was in 1st place in the lower point value category, 1st place wins in 45s/180s.

I have the 2nd shittiest ROI placing (we agreed on "average ROI" and not total profit or total ROI) so it's kinda weird to be king of wins. I know if I can move that meat of the graph up, I'll be get more cashes and more chances at taking top 3. By playing 12 tables, I'm really killing my chances to make better money, so I'll need to work on that. It's hard because this competition somewhat dictates how I'm going to play. With there being little chance to recover my ROI to make up enough places to bring in point for the team, it's better for the team if I keep playing games so I don't lose points to Jakuta in total games played. Ricky Bobby says you're either first or last. I'm top 3 in total games played, which our team is representing 2 out of the top 3 spots, with chipolucho working hard to catch up.

Damn, now that I sharkscope everyone, Jakuta is working hard to displace me too. We should have 3 of the top 4 spots in total games played if I get my head out of my ass. Unfortunately, birddog2631 is the only member rocking the ROI category, so we're hurting there. We might be able to pull some things out. I still have hope for my ROI to creep up over the 4% mark it's currently sitting at. I have a tough goal of 10% ROI for the month, but I have some serious work to do. I'm still looking at playing the $12s once my bankroll hits $1k, but I've cheated and played maybe 8-10 for the month.

What a mind-fuck having to play everyday with a small roll, knowing you will be coming into money soon. But I'm really hoping my roll improves so I don't have to dip into that money. The less I can use that money for a roll, the longer I have living expenses paid without needing to withdrawal. I'll get there. Seeing the daily stats in Poker Tracker, being in red or green, helps visualize outside my bubble. Other than my last set, which afforded a $77.75 loss, I was in the green for 5 out of 6 sets over the last 2 days.

Well, I don't have too much to talk about right now. Jeep is repo'd, I'm about out of a job, and I have nothing but potential in front of me. Cheers to a new day!

Have fun at the tables.

Another example of great customer service from PokerStars

The first night of our team grinding prob bet, I run into a internet outage at 3am. Sure I was livid at Cox Communications for singling me out and disconnecting my internet. Two days later I found some time to drop a quick email to PokerStars Support about this outage. After a few emails to clarify the time frame of the incident, I received this email today:

Hello Kyle,

Thank you for your patience in awaiting a response regarding this matter.

Just let me first start of explaining the nature of the Internet is such
that incidents like these can happen for reasons beyond both your and our
control. In this case, let me tell you that your disconnections were not
caused by our servers as at the time of your disconnection, the remaining
players at your table continued to play without difficulty in your absence.

Rule 8 of our tournament rules page states, in part:

By participating in a tournament, a player accepts the risk of
Internet disconnection, due to the problems with the connection
between their computer and the servers, lag or freeze or some
other problem in the player's computer. PokerStars does not
accept any responsibility for a player disconnect except in the
case of a server crash.

The complete rule list is available here:

http://www.pokerstars.com/poker/tournaments/rules/

That said we are happy to review situations on a case by case basis and
issue credits as a gesture of good will. A review on the effects of this
disconnection show the following:

176000514 - $3.25 - materially affected
176002716 - $6.50 - materially affected
176002194 - $6.50 - materially affected
175999485 - $6.50 - materially affected
176001569 - $3.25 - materially affected
176002124 - $3.25 - materially affected
176002751 - $3.25 - materially affected
175998169 - $6.50 - materially affected

Thank you for telling us the time of your disconnection, I reviewed the
tournaments played at the time, 6 AM ET (3 AM Arizona), and the tournaments
above where the tournaments I found where you missed hands or where your
play was materially affected.

So in events where you missed a substantial portion of the tournaments we
have decided to give you a refund as we consider you a valued player at
PokerStars.

Even though PokerStars does not typically accept responsibility for
routing problems or connection issues beyond our control, we have decided to
place a total of $39
(total of buy-ins for events above) into your
PokerStars account.

As your original buy-in was awarded in the prize pool and was not
taken back from the winner, you may consider this a gift from your
friends at PokerStars.

Please let us know if you would like to discuss this or any other matter
further. Thank you for playing at PokerStars.

Best regards,

Karl R
PokerStars Poker Team

Let me just say I know other players, some even on the other team (with an outage during day 1 with a MUCH BIGGER set size AND who are Supernova), that requested compensation and were denied!!! Run good much? I guess they looked at my crappy performance recently and felt sorry. Either way, I've spent about 20 minutes to receive $39... Which happens to be a better run rate than my SNGs. LOL Thank you PokerStars! Who can honestly say there is a better customer service team in the online poker industry?

Smiling

Alchemist CD coming out soon:

It feels good to be me. You ain't heard? I'm Kyle Million! Life is great and I'm very thankful that I have chance to live MY LIFE. Things are falling in place just the way they should be. Any friction along the way is just making me stronger. I've got a great system in place now for playing, relocated my computer back out in front of the living room window. I'm back to rockin the iMac w/ an additional 24" on the side. My laptop is upgaded to max RAM, so it's available if I want to be mobile, and I've purchased Table Ninja and streamlining my grinding. I bought a month of Sharkscope too. I'm actually using PokerTracker3 for analysis instead of for HUD. I'm using a spreadsheet to track each set by time, total games, profit/loss and additional notes to express the tweaks I'm making along the way. With the notes, I'll be able to look back and possibly remember what works better. So it's all business now.

My place is finally staying cool in the Tucson summer. I'm about to get my Jeep repo'd, but that's all in the master plan so don't feel bad. I still owe $18k on it, and just don't see the need in keeping it at "this" time in my life. With the money I'm getting in August, buying a car outright is the smarter move. Once things roll along in poker, I'll look into upgrading or buying a motorcycle. I'm going today to buy a bicycle, which will be reimbursed by the company... ahh, the perks I had!! I'm even planning on getting a Gym membership! L.A. Fitness is w/in a mile from my house so it's a no-brainer.

For this month, 8 guys from the Skype Crew have split up into 2 teams to battle over SNG grinding. My team is birddog2631, chipolucho, lightus and myself. The other team is jakuta, mattyd86, quaid745 and tcarnage. There are 3 catagories: ROI, Volume, and 1st place finishes in 45s & 180s. It's broken down like this: 40% ROI, 40% Volume, 20% 1sts. You get 8 points for 1st in your catagory, and 1 point for 8th with sliding points in between, obviously. So, the points are weighted in each category and then whichever team as the most points wins the prop bet. We only did $50 a person, but there are talks of this being repeated monthly.

So far I've put in a decent amount of volume but am gearing up for added sessions. Really, I'm pacing myself because I know this will be a long month and I don't want to exhaust my bankroll early on trying to outdo anything I can possibly do. Currently, my sets are 12-16 tables, running at a 90 minute registering period, so I can run continuous sets. Sets are lasting from 2 to 2.5 hours and I'm getting at least 3 in a day. It looks like I can do 25-40 per set as well, and I plan on slowly adding tables to my sets and getting another set or two in a day. Obviously, I'd like to get to a point where I only have to work 35-40 hours grinding, but right now I can work whatever I have to to get the job done, which is slowly grinding up my bankroll to a point where I won't have to use my savings.

I'll keep you guys in the loop as the contest progresses, I'm currently in 2nd place for total volume, 1st place in first place finishes, and at the bottom of the pack in ROI. Sharkscope shows me running at 7% ROI for the month over 580 games. My plan is to move up to higher 45s soon and by middle of the month I should be able to play strictly $12/145s and $12/180s, which will give me shots at higher ROI potential in the 180s. I'm having to small ball my way up due to a shitty June, but we'll just call that my "adjustment period". So many emotions ran through me last month, from excitement to fear. Now I've set sail and the world is my oyster.

Have fun at the tables.

Flip floppin

First, this relates, so I'll get it off my mind: My right thong/sandal/flip flop just broke. These are my favorite, most comfortable shoes ever... Made my Dr. Martens. I'm a little bummed now but hopefully I can find a suitable replacement soon.

Secondly, I've been going back and forth on what to play. MTTs, 180s, 45s, 18s... (Sigh) I finally got the set up I'll be using for a while. Stacking tables is the shizz!! AND, I've been using the laptop more but I might have to reconsider. Either there's a RAM issue or my laptop just isn't beefy enough for my demands. Once I get past 10-12 tables, using PT3, my system begins to freeze. I found out there is a "postsql" running for EACH table I've got up and it's a memory hog. If anyone out there can help with this, that'd be pretty sweet. TBH, with stacking, and tightening up my starting requirements, decisions in 45s seem to be logical w/out a HUD, for the most part. The game is pretty straight forward and leaves very few spots to effectively use HUD.

I tried a few days of MTTs, and though I cashed some to keep my roll afloat, until I get my money secured or my roll over $2K I just need to keep grinding the 45 man SNG format. There is a steady amount of level progression, from $3-$6-$12-$27-$38-$60. I know grinders are abound, the higher I go up, but there's also room to make money long term. Other than the 180s, this is the way I see myself growing my roll and affording my MTT play day to day. I want to make these my secured income option, while allowing MTTs to be my shot at greater things.

Have fun at the tables!

Sunday Mill-nones

I played 2 Double Shootouts to the Sunday Million, cashing in one... So I played the Sunday Million. 24th hand of the tournament I pull Aces and feel I played them as well as possible. I might have thought about folding if there was major playback on the flop or turn. I might call once on the flop, thinking some flush draws bet that out, then when the turn comes if someone double barrels, I'm probably giving up. Since none of that happened, and I rivered the nut flush, I went with it. Here's the HH:

I sold 80% of my action in the $20 1 rebuy, 1 add-on tournament, and got runner runnered, JJ < 89s with ~300 left, paying 120-ish. I open and he overshoves something retarded so I decide to call, willing to race w/ 2 overs. I guess I celebrated too soon, the flop gave him a flush draw and he runner runner rainbows to hit a gutter str8 on river. I DID min-cash in a few other tourneys, but not enough to catch up. Guess I'll go finish cleaning my house (since it's on my TO DO list to have done by TODAY), along w/ going grocery shopping and maybe I'll go buy a new Blu-ray movie. Fuggit, maybe I'll go out and see Hangover again. Yeah... It's THAT funny.

I got back on and played the MSOP Event #42 on Full Tilt Poker. I started with Esther Rossi at my table, then got moved to Aaron Bartley's table. I noticed something about Aaron:

Decent results surrounding a Hangover

I also saw Hangover last night. OMG. Words cannot say enough, but seriously... Seriously! Go see that movie. Zach Galifianakis is ridiculously funny. I've seen his stand up before, and that had me rolling but this movie is way out there, in a good way.

Tuesday I FT'd a $11 MTT on PokerStars, going out 7th for $374. I cashed in a few $24+2's on Full Tilt along the way which was solid for the roll over there. I've won a few tokens too, so I might go that route where I token into all their MTT's. On Wednesday I got deepish (43 out of 1416) in a $5 MTT and then FT'd a $9.90 360max, going out 6th for $146. So I feel like I'm making better runs to the money and finally cashed in a $3 rebuy, after many consecutive days of getting big stacks by the first break only to bust trying to get my money in too thin.

Tonight started out with me watching training videos from mscell. Eventually that turned into playing a few tournaments and coming away a winner:

- $10+1 HORSE MTT, 64 entrants, 1st place for $176.32
- $4+.40 Omaha H/L Limit MTT, 171 entrants, 2nd place for $102.61

HORSE (1st):

OMAHA (2nd):

Many have read the advice to play other games to strengthen your core game. I took this to heart and started playing one here and there, having fun in the process. I'm tired, as I haven't slept too much in the last few days.

Eye on the prize

First off, let me say this: I miss the rains down in Africa.

I've always loved this song. Back when I was 5, E.T. was out in theaters and my family was in Kansas, having Christmas break. Songs from this era rocked! My mom was into music and I was coined a Boogy Baby. That probably explains my DJ and production backgrounds. In association with iTunes, I'd like to advertise their services.

Today was the turn around day. The last three days I've been on a 45 man downswing. It was to be expected so I hunkered down and pulled through. I'm -$25 shy of my original bankroll, obviously putting the MTT losses behind me and not considering their losses. I haven't strayed from my plan. In fact, when I got down a few hundred, I played less tables and started asking more about certain hands in various spots. After playing so many 45 mans, I just got better. My starting range is much tighter and I'm needing many less suckouts to win. I know I'm just writing all this on because I've had a positive day, but hells yeah for that!

I've started 6 tabling again and will work with those for a few more days and see about 8 tabling if I can maintain a slight winning streak. I put in long hours today and I feel I can do that for many days to come but I'll look forward to taking Friday night off to play in our home game. I've got a plan whether I move up or down in my bankroll. Here's to tomorrow!!!

Have fun at the tables.

1st weekend results

I'll need to keep better records, but for now I spent the weekend trying to get into every small buy in MTT during my play time. The end result is down $500. I went about playing w/out much of a plan other than I'd play MTT under $10. Well so much for that. Now I've got a solid plan using my current $500 bankroll to grind $6/45's... Nothing more! Just $6/45's and anywhere from 4 to 6 tables. I need structure as currently I'm all over the place. I also need to preserve my bankroll and give it a healthy shot at growing. I can do more tables, but until I can see improvements, I'm going to limit them for now. My goal is to get $500 up to $2,000 before I play a single MTT. I shouldn't even try to move up to $12's until I get to $2k.

I calculated my severance package, selling stock, and cashing out my 401k (don't worry, I ONLY put money into this KNOWING that I'd be pulling it out when I left my job... They matched the first $6k each year, so the free money pays for the taxes/fees.) By getting rid of my Jeep, and buying a car outright, I'll be saving over $600 per month on a car payment and full coverage insurance. I'll have enough to buy a used car, pay rent 6mo. in advance, and set aside 6 months of living expenses before securing my bankroll. I will have $5-7K available for a bankroll, which I'll keep in a separate bank account. Sure, who wouldn't want more? But it's a decent start and if I grind 45 man and 180 man SNG's as my primary source of income to start with, eventually I'll be in a spot to play more MTT's with the eventual plan of being an MTT grinder.

I'm going into work this morning, in about an hour, to gather up all my personal belongings and clear out my computer. It's pretty surreal knowing that I'm leaving a job most would give their left nut for. I must tell myself that I'd be on the firing block each month and if I get fired, I wouldn't get this package. I never seem to be able to plan accordingly, as I'd love to have more money behind me and a more solid track record, but I digress. In honor of people going after their dreams:

Goals to accomplish by the end of Sunday:

- Play 50+ games per day. I'd love to say 100, but I don't think I can until I get to 12+ tabling.
- Play a minimum of 10 hours per day.
- Set a schedule that includes daily exercising, studying and reading.
- Come up with a record keeping process that works for me.
- Get Table Ninja incorporated into my play.
- Finish cleaning my house, I got off to a great start... Now let's finish!!!

Have fun at the tables!

Cheers: To new chapters in life!

Today's blog post is sponsored by Sirius Radio. I've always enjoyed my ride to and from work, listening to the best DJ's in Hip Hop. Also, each night a different DJ is breaking new songs... DJ Kay Slay, Tony Touch, DJ Drama, and many more. I'll be listening to Sirius Radio now more than ever. Hopefully this banner is showing up. It's not showing in "Preview" so it'll be hit or miss but I'm thinking it's a Firefox thing along w/ NoScript that is causing the problem. So... You, as a poker player, deserve good music... Go get Sirius and you can listen in your car, home stereo or online.

Sirius Satellite Radio Inc.

Now, onto the news of the year IMO. We had a reorganization at my work, and I was affected. I've been wishing to leave for many years now and honestly don't know how I stayed this long. As some know, I was on a 30 day write up for sales performance. I satisfied the requirements of the write up, however the stipulations were that I would continue to be in the top 50% of sales on the team. Our team is like the Yankees... stacked, and talent is pulled from all the other teams. A group of us were brought into a meeting room and explained that our job is safe, if we want to take a $12K pay cut. My company honestly rocks, and they understand some won't want the pay cut, so they offered us a severance package. Since I've worked there for a total of 6 years, I got a really nice parachute. I have stock and 401k that I plan on cashing out as well. Luckily, I'm still on payroll until August 3rd, so I still get health benefits, however I do not have to go back to work... They will pay me my salary, w/out commission, for the next 60 days. At that point I'll sign papers, and get my severance package w/in a month from Aug. 3rd.

I've always wanted to be in the position to take my shot, and play poker full time. I hope I'm not coming off as completely naive... I know it's going to be hard. I find it harder to maintain a corporate job along with trying to excel at poker on the side. I usually have minimal energy, and stress and fatigue play a part in my current mediocre results. I'll have plenty of money for living expenses for up to a year, if I do it cautiously and keep focused on my goals. I don't need to rush out and make huge scores right away. A steady pace wins the race!

In the long run, if this doesn't work out, I have a high level skill set in sales and can re-enter the job market in 6 months (a few months before the dough starts getting low.) I wouldn't overlook working 2 jobs if I needed to, but I also don't want to live life without trying to accomplish my goals. I'll be training online, working with close friends on Skype, and eventually getting coaching for 45s & 180s and then MTTs as well. Cash games will be 100% off limits for now and will re-assess this after I get rolled over $10-20K. This will be my business and I will work to build a foundation for my future. I can't continue working, with my job in limbo, as eventually I will hit a bad month in sales and be out the door. This way I leave with no regrets as this is really what I desire for myself at this point in life.

To all my readers: Hey, there's at least 3 of ya out there... Sweeet!!! I know the numbers are small, but I really haven't done anything to get myself active in the community. However, now I feel I will need this as an outlet to journal my progression. At least for the next 6 months, my life will be eat, sleep and sweat poker. In reality, I will be working on sick amounts of volume and putting myself in the position to work with a backer. Obviously, if things go well, I'll be improving and moving up in levels, along with building a bankroll. With that said, this is a new beginning, and it doesn't hurt to think of all the options available.

I've got 6 months to a year... I've got all my ducks in a row and I'm ready to jump ship. I know I'm talking a lot, and it might seem like I'm justifying the situation, so it is what it is and I'll end it here for tonight. We'll see were this part of life leads me, and I'd love nothing more than to be in a spot where I can play my first WSOP Event in 2010.

It's offiicial:

Just as I thought, I'm getting a severance package and leaving my job. More updates to come, but I'll have a good 8-12mo of living expenses and enough to have a good roll to play decent tournies along with $12/180s

Talk to you all soon,

To all my readers:

This will be a quick test to verify my assumptions. I don't think I have one steady reader out there. If not for Google Reader, I would easily have none. Today is June 2nd. I will leave this post up until the end of June. I'm politely requesting ALL READERS to leave a quick comment, letting me know you read my blog and would like me to keep posting. IF, on July 1st, I STILL don't have comments, I'm going to take down the blog... FOR GOOD.

It's not that I don't care... It's more like I probably care too much. Who I am to think that I'm important enough where others are wanting to read my thoughts about my life? However, I don't want to overlook the quiet reader. This is your shot to let me know you are out there. Otherwise, I will assume my writing is all for not.

Have fun at the tables.

PS Lady fails at suicide, GG train:

One of the email jokes that got through my filters

THE SPOILED UNDER-30 CROWD!!!
If you are 30 or older you will think this is hilarious!!!!

When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious diatribes about how hard things were. When they were growing up; what with walking Twenty-five miles to school every morning....
Uphill... barefoot...
BOTH ways

Yadda, yadda, yadda
And I remember promising myself that when I grew up, there was no way in hell I was going to lay a bunch of crap like that on my kids about how hard I had it and how easy they've got it!
But now that... I'm over the ripe old age of thirty, I can't help but look around and notice the youth of today.

You've got it so easy! I mean, compared to my childhood, you live in a damn Utopia!
And I hate to say it, but you kids today, you don't know how good you've got it!

I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have The Internet. If we wanted to know something, we had to go to the damn library and look it up ourselves, in the card catalogue!!
There was no email!! We had to actually write somebody a letter - with a pen!
Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the mailbox and it would take, like, a week to get there! Stamps were 10 cents!
Child Protective Services didn't care if our parents beat us. As a matter of fact, the parents of all my friends also had permission to kick our ass! Nowhere was safe!

There were no MP3' s or Napsters! If you wanted to steal music, you had to hitchhike to the damn record store and shoplift it yourself!
Or you had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio and the DJ would usually talk over the beginning and @#*% it all up! There were no CD players! We had tape decks in our car. We'd play our favorite tape and "eject" it when finished and the tape would come undone. Cause - that's how we rolled, dig?

We didn't have fancy crap like Call Waiting! If you were on the phone and somebody else called they got a busy signal, that's it!

And we didn't have fancy Caller ID either!
When the phone rang, you had no idea who it was! It could be your school, your mom, your boss, your bookie, your drug dealer, a collections agent, you just didn't know!!! You had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!

We didn't have any fancy Sony Playstation video games with high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games like 'Space Invaders' and 'Asteroids'. Your guy was a little square! You actually had to use your imagination!! And there were no multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen... forever!
And you could never win.. The game just kept getting harder and harder and faster and faster until you died! Just like LIFE!

You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on! You were screwed when it came to channel surfing! You had to get off your ass and walk over to the TV to change the channel! NO REMOTES!!!
There was no Cartoon Network either! You could only get cartoons on Saturday Morning. Do you hear what I'm saying!?! We had to wait ALL WEEK for cartoons, you spoiled little brats!

And we didn't have microwaves, if we wanted to heat something up we had to use the stove! Imagine that!
That's exactly what I'm talking about! You kids today have got it too easy. You're spoiled. You guys wouldn't have lasted five minutes back in 1980 or before!

Turning to MTT's

This entry is sponsored by CheapoAir.com I know a lot of you are planning on heading out to Vegas for the World Series of Poker. Give these guys a look up... You just might find the deal you're looking for.

Europe-Flight/Hotel Combo

Well, I know I didn't give my self a decent shot... But I spent a few hours playing $6/45's and I wasn't having fun. It felt like a chore and that's not why I play poker. I love tournaments! When I dream about shot at poker, it's always getting deep in a Sunday major. I read blogs of some of the top 45 man and 180 man SNG grinders out there and even they have tough times. Rakeback and their FPP bonuses help them pull in good profit each month, but I don't see how I can do that w/out their volume. With my best calculations, I could pull out 600 games a month... But I would have to play the $12 level to make $3K a month. It sounds great in theory, but I can't find the time or desire to do this.

In the end, what am I solving for by playing 600 SNG's a month? If my goal is to be a high stakes MTT player then does this fit into the plan? A year or two ago I felt that these games "trained" me in some aspects of MTT play. With buy ins being so small, and most players grinding multiple tables, I just feel out dated in this arena. I feel fine when I play tournaments. My success in 180's usually came when I'd sprinkle a game in here or there with my tournaments. In the end, I'm not satisfied playing a grinders schedule anymore.

I like the idea of coming online one night and firing up whatever tournaments are available. I think if I were to sign up for accounts on Bodog and Ultimate Bet, I would be affording myself a chance to play in a few more tournaments each night. I don't take advantage of playing enough on Cake or FullTilt as it is. But I feel my mindset is a bit off too. Once I get online, I fire up PokerStars and load, load, load. When I can't find anymore options in my level I go to multi table SNG and fire up 45's and 180's. I don't like this approach much. I feel I need to start looking at all sites and registering for anything under $10. Eventually, I'll hit a nice score and can move up to $20-30 tournaments, which would get me to the sweet spot on FullTilt and playing any of their $24+2 tournaments. I'd love to play them now, but I feel I have some rust to remove from my game and working my way back up the ranks is exactly what the doctor ordered.

I always thought I would need to get back into 45's for me to ease back into grinding. It's just that every time I do this, I get bored quickly and decide to go nuts in higher buy-in MTT's or just donk it off in cash games. Remember PLO8? WTF was I thinking? Ugh. You can find me grinding small MTT's and $12/180's in between. No more 45's... those are for serious grinders and I'm not one of them.

Have fun at the tables.

Warmed up cat shit

Yup, that's what I feel like. I felt the sicklies coming on yesterday, while at work. I'm staying inside. I have lots of water, juice, Gatorade and Arizona Green Tea. Plenty of liquids, and I'm finished "trying" to play poker today. I need to make sure I'm better by Monday so I can have a productive work week. I need to make some moves in the "outbound calling" department. I've been resting on my laurels, with having decent sales, but now it's time to kick it in gear.

I got deep in the $3 rebuy on Stars, but went out 13th when I couldn't switch gears and slow down. Kept getting RR'd when I opened and kept folding instead of picking a hand and taking a stance. Gonna rest up and watch some Blu-Rays today. Hopefully Kwamie will be on XBox Live and we can get some games in (NBA2K9, MLB2K9, Left for Dead, CoD4...the usual).

I'm feeling a bit down on my chances to win a WSOP seat this year. I'll rest this weekend and re-evaluate later.

Have fun at the tables!

Gangsta Sushi

I went out for sushi last night. I'm on day 4 of eating right and exercising. I feel great for a Friday! It's pretty amazing how much eating and exercising does for one's energy level. So, when I go out for sushi I enjoy sitting at the bar, when company allows, because I like the "show" that goes on along with talking with the sushi chefs. I'm very much a people person and take most opportunities to get to know people when I can. This chef was awesome... In normal Tucson, AZ fashion, he was Mexican, but that never bothers me. He was full of jokes and while I was eating an "all you can eat" course, he had a few extras that he threw my way.

First was a fried calamari contraption that was thicker than my forearm. At this place, when eating "AYCE", if you leave pieces on your plate, they charge you extra. This time, since it was his creation, he offered that I didn't have to finish. Good... Cuz it was "okay" but I had my eye on other Nigiri treats!!!

Second option, was at the end... I told him I needed one more "something" and he made sure I wasn't too hungry. Next thing I know, he's presenting me with this beautiful option:

It's a shrimp roll, with a cream cheese fin, painted with Salmon eggs. That is some gansta ish right there! That egg in the middle? That's just a cream cheese ball, dipped in Salmon eggs for flavor, sitting on a bed of rice. After asking what it was called, thinking it was a menu item, he refers to "that Eagles song that talks about a horse with no name". I thought it was America who sang that? Obviously, I whip out the iPhone and quickly verify I am right (used to be a DJ, so I'm fairly good with songs...lil rusty lately though). I was in awe of how he hit the sweet spot of the night. It was awesome, a true example of customer service. I've been to Sushihama a few times before, but my time at the bar this time was a customer loyalty builder, fa sho!!

Well, I'm feeling a titch under the weather. Even though I feel great after the eating/exercise thing, maybe my body is just tired and is shutting down in an effort to preserve itself. I'll get plenty of sleep this weekend, and already had to cancel on a party invite with my homie DJ Speedy, 1/2 of Gr8Beats. Looks like he's heading out, yet again, for more "global development" stuff. He just got back from Manila and just mentioned he's likely to leave again, soon. So this weekend was set up to be a all out party/celebration, but now I'm canceling!! I'm such a jerk...

I am Sofa King We Todd Ed

:( I'm sooo bad. Not even a day went by before I was thinking of ways to get to The Spot. The reality is that I try to win too quick. I try to get rich fast, instead of thinking about grinding out $15-25 per hour. I mean, who am I to think that I'm entitled to making hundreds per session? Within the first hour of each session, I'm usually getting all my chips in the pot trying to double up. It's quite We Todd Ed.

Ahhhh, I've found three good videos to show off my "wee tah did". I actually didn't know it was We Todd Ed until I went searching for the YouTube. First, is the main clip, followed by kids pranking old ladies, and ending with Danger Doom's song, inspired by the Adult Swim show.

The Pièce de résistance (kids getting old ladies to say this):

And now Danger Doom's song "Sofa King":

Anyways, calling The Spot off limits FOREVER just seems so... I don't know... Bi-Polar!!! LMAO. I've decided to challenge myself by instead limiting The Spot as off limits UNTIL I read two certain books. Cash gamers "should" know the books I'm referring to, but just in case peeps from The Spot read my blog, I'd rather not give out the info. So we'll see just how badly I want to play, but honestly I was out celebrating Cinco de Mayo with doylesays and I was about to break my covenant. Not because doylesays is a bad influence, more so because our discussion was based on "I'm not sure you need to give The Spot up forever, but you definitely need to read those books first". These books, rather just the first one, changed his game around in no time and he's steadily taking down winning sessions.

So there we have it... I'm chalking yesterday up as just a bad day and pressing forward with a new plan. No sponsorship needed on this thread... I think I have plenty and quite possibly I'll need throw a banner ad up every other post or so.

Officially, The Spot is no more

This post is sponsored by iTunes release of Eminem's new CD:

Apple iTunes

I've said it before, and now I need to put meaning to my words. I'm finished with "The Spot". I've had only a few winning sessions, with the majority of them being followed by another session (usually after drinks, or dinner) where I proceed to dump. The Spot is like a drug for me. I'm not getting anything positive out of the situation. I keep losing money and continue to beat myself up over my losses. It's completely counter-productive. Honestly, I'm going to miss it... I already do. I enjoy the social aspect that live poker brings. I've grown to like many of the local players on the scene. All in all, it'll be hard to stay away but I have to show some will power on this one.

I rarely finish a sessions with going home and grinding. My poker goals are going to be accomplished from my online play. Maybe one day I'll have poker goals dealing with cash games, but I feel I need to "train" myself online first. Looking at my online stats, whether from 2009, 2008 or career, I'm up. I don't understand why I don't follow suit and just grind more online.

Ah-ha moment: I'm probably lonely in life right now. Looking back, I've just gone through a divorce and my life is 180 degrees from where I was a year ago. Wow... April 25th was the day I walked out on my old life. It's been a year now. My closest friends have noticed substantial growth from within and I still have a long way to go. Like in poker, I'm probably trying to "rush" into victory instead of just grinding myself up.

Maybe I can start living life in the present. Calling The Spot off-limits is a good first step. I had a meeting at work today that irked me to no end, so I went w/ doylesays over to our company gym (yeah, we have a lot of amenities) and did a quick 10min workout. I'm happy with my start. Maybe tonight I can muster up the courage to do a few pushups/situps. Maybe tomorrow I can wake up and walk for 20min before getting ready for work. I'm sorry that all I can say is MAYBE, but maybe I've spent my life "talking" about tomorrow and not "doing" anything about it today. All I know is I'm not happy with my past, which doesn't bode well for the future, so I should probably start doing something about it, today.

Guys... Don't forget that Sunday is Mother's Day. If you're coming up dry for gift ideas, it couldn't hurt to buy a small iPod and put a few songs on for her.

Sunday Million run

I don't know what got over me. Maybe it was doylesays hanging around for Day 2 (final day) of May Days at Desert Diamond Casino. Maybe I was a little too frisky, but either way I'm happy with the outcome. I've been playing more PLO8 recently, and made a quick buy-in at the $1/2 table, so the plan was to take a break and go back into a PLO8 table and double up again so I could buy my way into the SM. Didn't happen, in fact I was left with little mawneys to work with. I noticed a 4max, hyper turbo, Double Shootout to the Million and proceeded to satty in. This left me with paltry dough in the cashier window, but let's let the chips fall where they may.

Cashing was easy, I doubled up fairly quick on some crazy hand where TPTK was good. I was going to take a picture when I got into the Top 100 list, but decided that would jinx me. Instead I played the best I could and ended up pushing JTo from the button, with < M of 5. KQ calls from the blinds and I almost hit the gutshot. Turning $44 into $574 is pretty sweet and leaves me with the desire to play this event more often.

I'm coming to a fork in the road. Do I try to grind during the week, leading up to the weekend? Or do I stay relaxed during the week, hanging out with friends, playing videogames, making music and watch movies? My concern is my future gaming. I'm still thinking that a backing deal, down the road, wouldn't be such a bad option. But before I can get there, most backers are stating in forums and blogs that they look for peeps that are already putting in tons of volume. Maybe I go back to having Mondays and Fridays off and putting in mad work all the other days. Even playing at The Spot on my "off" days isn't so bad. I know that I can't really play there Tues-Thurs w/out cutting serious time into my online grinding schedule. Also, I'd have the weekends to play a little here and there, as I can't play the ENTIRE weekend online (even though I've unsuccessfully tried a few times!!)

All I know is I have a good lil bankroll online again, all debts are paid off, and I don't see how I can't grind Steps until I get at least ONE seat to the WSOP Main Event. It's going to happen, I just need to spend the time putting in the hours. Ah-ha moment: I'll use the week to grind out Steps and if I don't have a seat by this weekend, I'll use the weekend to satty into the Sunday Million and maybe the Warm-up too. Oh, I hear FTP is hosting a "mini FTOPS" starting soon, so I'll have to look into that too.

Today's post is brought to you by Netflix:
Netflix, Inc.
In honor of me JUST finding out that they have all TV seasons of Trailer Park Boys!! I'll be coming home to Seasons 1&2 in the mailbox along with my fixed (3 red rings of death) XBox 360 Elite getting dropped off by UPS. I've snobbishly declined to play my Xbox 360 in anything but 1080 HD quality. Playing in 480p just isn't cutting it these days. I have a huge library waiting to play on a sick set up. Speaking of which, I should look into getting a decent "wireless" surround sound set up. It won't be the Definitive Technology set up from years past. That set up will have to wait until I own a house again. Until then, a decent wireless set up will work perfectly in my rented space.

Have fun playing on the felts. If you see me online, playing on PokerStars, hit me up on the rail.

A convo with an old roommate

I had Pidgin up today, and a rare convo from my MSN account popped up. It was my buddy Aaron, living in Boston doing the Law School thing with his bride. We used to be roommates, back when I was a Latter Day Saint (Oh, you didn't know? Put that in your pipe and smoke it!!) He's probably the best guy I've ever met. Such a great friend, and willing to do anything for those around him. His parents and bros and sis's are just awesome peeps.

Convo between us:

(2:28:39 PM) Aaron: well what happens if the poker thing doesn't pan out
(2:29:20 PM) Kyle: then i sell chiclets on a Mexican border-town corner
(2:29:29 PM) Kyle: 8-|
(2:29:34 PM) Aaron: YES!!! can I come too
(2:29:45 PM) Aaron: I can dance for change around a sombrero
(2:30:08 PM) Kyle: sweet! i think we could make at LEAST $4.70 a day... EACH!!! that should be fine, right?
(2:30:45 PM) Aaron: ummm I think that I could do with like 4.39 so 4.70 is awesome

Investment check should come in tomorrow, so I'll have all my debt paid off and have a roll again. Today, I'm actually going to The Spot JUST to watch doylesays and trebomber. Maybe I'll learn something to shore up these cash game leaks that I have. I don't have any feelings of rushing back to the tables, so I'ma just kick it. Speaking of, here's an oldie but goodie:

If you're gonna "kick it" maybe you'll want to get a new pair of shoes?

Omaha is the shizzz

Today's post is sponsored by Rushmypassport.com. For those online grinders out there winning their first EPT/APT satty entry, you'll need a Passport to leave the country. Why not get it in 24hrs? Our time is worth money, right? ...Exactly!!!

Only $99, US Passports in 24hrs. Same Day Service

This weekend was brutal. I decided to chase losses and got stuck even more. Luckily, I have patient friends, both online and live. Yesterday was our big home game we've been planning and playing for 10 months. We are sending a guy from our camp to Vegas to play in Event 13, $2500 WSOP Event. We, as the crew, get 25% of any cashing. Out of 10 guys, 2nd got $1300 and 3rd got $1k. I played real solid and held 2nd place stack until 300/600 level. After calling a shorty's push and not holding up, with AJs, I was down to 10BBs, which was still close to everyone else, other than Frank (aka bettrvue) who had a dominating stack. He was definitely the favorite going into the game. I then push w/ KQo, with 8BB, and push an open raiser from MP. I'm laying him 1.5-1 odds to call and he feels AJo is da nutz versus my range. Board comes 666, blank, blank and I'm dunzo. This guy goes on the win the entire thing. FML

So, how did I even start playing back at the spot? Well, I won a $100 VISA card from work. We had an end of the year picnic with games and prizes. How did I win? Pie eating contest, no doubt!!! In this picture, you can see Mike's pie on the left and mine on the right JUST how much ahead I was. And he took 2nd!!

The aftermath:

Victory is sweet (especially chocolate moose):

Continuing with my story, I took that $100 VISA card and went to The Spot (trebomber bought it off me for $90) and I had a healthy victory. Took that into the weekend without any luck. Hey, it happens... What can I say, I was freerolling!

I come home dejected Sunday night, after spending the weekend playing cash games at The Spot (yeah, I know... I was already reminded by the ex-wife that The Spot was self subscribed "off limits", but what can I say... I'm a degenerate, obv). I decide to fire up PokerStars and throw $200 into a $1/2 PLO H/L game. At one point I had it up to $725 but there was a guy w/ a $400 stack that I was eyeing. He wasn't playing every hand to the low, more just playing the highs and sneaking in with a low here and there. I played more combo hands and felt I was better than the table competition. It's more than likely ego, but I took effort in analyzing my perceived edge and really thought I was good. You judge for youself on the last hand here, with him only having flopped top set w/ no draw to the low. In reality is was my fault for not pumping the flop. Here's my session highlights:

I scared them off... I'll work on value next time

Normally I'd want the 2, but it's amazing how nobody plays strong post flop w/out a low.

I'm a fan of these hands. I'm looking for an Ace on the flop or I'll have to slow down.

Shorty's 1st hand, he's chasing a Jack w/out a low draw. tee hee hee

The hand was cheap, even for the flop bet. GIN turn, drawing dead.

I'm sorry did you just have the nutz (before river) w/out a low draw?

Villain thought top set and 3rd nut flush w/out low draw was a good hand. $945 river card :(

I should have all debt paid off in a week and I'll be back on the Steps, along with some sprinkled in $50 PLO here and there. Have fun at the tables.

Things to come...

I just realized I title my post before I write it. Is that odd? What do other bloggers do? (My ploy to get more comments! muwhahahaha) Well, I just finished a small left-over course of Steps (to the WSOP Main Event, on PokerStars) and didn't do so hot. How about Step 4, 2nd hand of the match I pick up KK? Here's the hand:

KK vs AJ AI on QJ8 2tone flop.

Pretty sick, but I'm sure it's a horrible call by me. It was instinct that a for one a good player doesn't "normally" push that early in a hand, so early in the match. Secondly, draws and scared TPTK type hands might push for a shot at fold equity. So I called feeling this also sends a message, for future play with guys at table (I plan on grinding Steps next few months), that I'm not a scared bitch and I'll put my chips in if I feel it is +EV. Again, I'm sure the basic call there screams -EV but I think I'll post in the forums to get a reply.

I'm in debt. Nothing scary, but Friday is payday and it'll be time to pay the piper. I had $90-ish in my account after the weekend of borrowing and playing MTTs, so I felt why not get started on the Steps since nothing else is working. I played an initial 9 Step 1's and got 5 advances. Then turned that into 2 Step 3's and 2 recycled Step 2's. Got those into a Step 4 and recycled Step 3.

So, the plan is to pay off the debt this payday and if there is any left over money I'll invest in Step 1's. This paid off last year with something under $190 invested in Step 1's. I'm not delusional and I know it'll take much more time and effort. It's just that I really want to win a seat again this year, even more, so I actually play the damn event. I gotta get started sometime, so hopefully things work out. My goal is to get 3 seats. That'll provide a seat and $25,000 for a solid online roll, and some money leftover to go play smaller events. I figure my first win will solidify a $1k roll, and I'll use that to pump out two more wins. It'll be tough, but if I focus and put my mind to it, great things happen. This happens to everybody... We have amazing abilities, so get on out there and accomplish a goal or two.

PokerStars lowered the payout from $12,500 to $12,000 and only pay out 1 spot in the 6max or a 12 man (2 table, but full ring and paying out 2 seats). I feel with double the starting chips, I should play the 12 mans since it gives me a starting stack to start with shorthanded, but then I can play full ring when it breaks from 12 to 9. Also, two get seats in the 12 mans, so it allows for a bit more room. I think these changes are based on their lower VPP guidelines for Star Status, which created a lower value for the FPP as well as allowing registration w/ FPPs to Step 3. It could be from when they restructured Steps all together and started allowing Step 4 tickets into any $216 MTT. I know I'm in the ballpark on the reason why, but I probably sound wee tah did, so forgive my rambling.

I've also determined I have no shot at winning live cash games, so until further notice The Spot is OFF LIMITS. I'd be better getting into each MTT hosted at the Casinos. I've got only a few months to grind out Steps before WSOP, so really my time needs to be focused on attaining my real goals.
LinkShare_468x60v1
I almost forgot!! You, my few wonderful readers, might have noticed a few advertisements lying around the blog. I noticed a while back, within my blog dashboard is a "monetize" link where you set up AdSense with Google. I've never liked the way they pollute webpages from my past surfing, so I couldn't come to grips with selling out just to make a buck or two. I mean, YOU don't even get to declare what you want as content with AdSense. Google feels like they will know my target audience better and will make choices in the best interest of all of us. Even if they work with SPAMMAGE links such as "So and so has a 135 IQ, take the quiz to see how you stack up." So, remember when I was talking about putting the word out w/ Ecko about being an affiliate? I went to their site and was directed to sign up thru LinkShare. After taking a few minutes to do so, I was immediately applying for partnerships with many name brand outfits. As you see, some have obliged and now I have resources to snazzy visual ads that I choose. I can choose small, big, long, short and I feel I do well with not using obnoxious looking ads. Ironically, I'm up and running without having my key partnership approved yet: ShopEcko.com. I've already been declined by Hotwire, NFLShop and Playboy Store, all for apparently not having the right market segment or I'm not big enough, don't have enough traffic or it could be that they don't want the online traffic overflow being directed from my blog ads.

But anyways, the cool thing is I really use these people. I've haven't need airfare since getting this affiliation but I'm definitely going to use them next time. I subscribe to Sirius radio mainly for Shade 45, a hip hop station owned by Eminem and DJ slots from every day/night from some of the dopest in the biz (DJ Drama, Tony Touch, Kay Slay, Angela Yee for the ride into work and Rude Jude and Lord Sear on the ride home). I'm a 3 movie at a time Netflix subscriber and I like catching up on TV series like Entourage, The Wire, Sopranos, Weeds, Trailer Park Boys, 24, Californication... Basically shows that other poker grinders and bloggers have talked about for the years I've been reading their blogs. And yeah, when I need a passporte, which should be soon, damn straight I'll be using the guys to my right to get one w/in 24 hours for $99. I don't have to leave my home? .... sheeeeeeeeeeit!! How's this for targeting your market:

Last note... I've managed to keep my job. I was on a 30-day performance plan and satisfied the requirements of the write-up. Next month is our quarterly bonus pay out, so I that will provide a sound savings. It's good to work... For now. Later on that. Have fun grinding.

So glad to be home

Vegas was awesome, obviously. Money losses aside, I had one of the funnest times of my life. I'm proud to report that our own "ryanb9" took down Event 1, after chopping 4 handed. He was the biggest winner, with Fritty Cent taking 2nd in the Thursday night Midnight Madness at Caesars. Other than that, nothing great to report regarding winnings (at least that I know of).

I feel I played my A-/B+ game during both Venetian Deep Stack Events I played, #2 and #3. I'm not much of a "bad beat" blogger, but in fairness it's worth reporting these two extreme hands:

Event #2, $300 + $40. I scoop a few small pots to get my stack up to a few thousand over starting stacks. I get 55 UTG+2, I limp and Mario, 2nd on my left, raises to 400. No callers and it's back to me and I call. Flop comes 5KX, 2 tone. I check raise him, he reraises me and I push. He insta-calls with AKo and runner runners a flush. I get down to under 20BBs w/in the first hour. I then limp JT and flop TJQ and get it all in vs. KQo and double. Then I get KQo and limp into Mario. He raises to 4BB and I flat OOP. Flop comes Q high and I call his c/bet. Turn comes a K and I check raise AI and double again. I keep scooping pots here and there and get TT HU vs. a guy I thought was a Pro. He had game, but also tried to get to aggro in certain spots. I've either limp/raised pre or check raised him a few times now and this time I had open raised, he RR's in the CO and I repop him. Since he only flats, I'm not putting him on a strong PP, maybe 99+ but more likely a strong Ace. I check raise the flop and he pushes. I call with my read on him and he shows A6o for a bluff to my TT. I hold and get up to a 60K stack. From there 2pr no good vs. set of Aces. Then my KK vs. 88 was good until a rivered 8. Those two hands brought me to a 20k stack at the 1st break, with a 25k average stack. We get down to 100 players and I've got less than 10BB and push KQs into the SB's 99. I don't get there, but again I feel I played great. My only regret is texting my buddies updates from the table. I could have used that time to get even deeper in my reading of the table, but all in all I did great with the cards I got.

Event #3, $500 + $60. I satty'd in on my first attempt... Thank you Sheets and PXF, I felt real comfortable with my SNG play dealing w/ 40BB to start. I didn't have much action until the dreaded hand: 100/200/25 level. I have 13K stack to start, w/ the villian being a loose nut w/ 25K+ stack. He raises to 625 UTG, I RR to 1500. He repops it to 5k and I take 5 seconds to push my chips in. He instantly calls with QQ and flops and turns a Q. Other than the outcome board, I want that scenario all day, every day.

Craps was up and down. Friday night was heater night, except after the Golden Nugget tourney, where I proceeded to take $600 to the pit to play $25 craps (it was $10 before the tourney, but pride and my degen kept me there... GG Golden Nugget). Also, between craps sessions, I waited at Binions for the fellas (Marty and I hailed a cab from Venetian after I took $200 to $800 on the dice). I sAit down at Blackjack w/ $200 and playED a few hands before I said fuggit and laid my $180 on one hand and flopped GIN with a 6 and a 5. So I reach into my pocket and double down. ONE TIME DEALER. I kept the card down and watched her crack her exposed 6, w/ a K underneath. TY COME AGAIN!!! BTW, I drew a 4... YIKES!!!

After that damn Golden Nugget tourney, the rest of the crap sessions that trip resulted in me maxing my Pass Line and a Come Bet or two, and just not getting a good roller to work me up. Cash sessions were all for not too. I did get a $100 for my pocket 6's flopping quads. Bally's has any PP to Quad promotion for $100 and a ticket into a WSOP Seat drawing. Freeroll to the drawing!!!

The best part of the trip was the club. Kahunaville! We ONLY went there cuz they were handing buy 1/get 1 free coupons for drinks. 7pm-ish start time, ended with a 2am cab ride back to Bally's. I should of taken a picture of Quaid passed out in the back of the minivan-taxi, but I try not to be "that guy". It was so much fun drinking, dancing and partying with the crew. We met a ton of people that night. The entire bar felt like we all knew each other. Real friendly people... So glad I didn't bail out early cuz I got a second wind when they started playing Hip Hop. Here's a video Konrad put together. I'm at the end singin with my Irish Rap brethren.

On the plane ride home, I was my normal social self, and in getting off the plane I received a job offer from a developer in Reno who also is expanding into property in Mexico. So, just in case things don't work out here at Intuit, I have options... And in Reno of all places. I gave him directions to Famous Sam's and we exchanged contact info.

I met a lot of new people, and because I have some focus on "making this poker thing work out", I promoted my blog as a way of people keeping in touch with me. I can envision creating business cards for the future. If I can keep improving my game, and continue with my lucky runs deep in online MTTs, there's always a chance that I down the road I have a shot w/ some form of marketing. For instance, I'm going to contact Ecko's marketing department and ask them for an affiliate banner to put up on my blog. Sure, for now I'll be buying my own clothes, but it's not a far reaching thought to think some day my image and personality will pay off. I could be at a TV Final Table, wearing their clothes. It's just the kind gorilla marketing tactic that has potential for results. In our ever changing marketplace, it's important to think outside the box. As other poker bloggers have shown, keeping a recorded journal of our "lives", both on and off the felt, can be turned into big things. Again, Ecko... I'm down, if you are! For those not in the know, that is Chris Ferguson.

Below is my photobucket album of the trip. I'll link others' pics when I find them. Thanks for the read, I'm taking tonight off to recharge and then I'm back to online grinding.

Vegas baby, VEGAS!!!

The guys are already working it out there. Lightus took 4th in Caesar's Midnight tourney. Chipolino took 5th and I think I heard Francix's friend took 6th, but I could be wrong. Caddieup is feeling a bit under the weather, and tbh, he sounds like warmed up cat shit! LMAO I get into Vegas just before 7pm and it's 2:15ish right now. Needless to say I'm geeked as all get out. I stopped off at the AT&T store and luckily they had iPod replacement headphones. I like the new design, they fit in my ear well, and they have that built in microphone for phone calls so that's pretty pimp (pricetag of $29.95). Also picked up a backup battery pack/charger. Got them both for $40, on the "hook-up". A guy that I met at The Spot was working, and when I wenced at the $50 price for the back-up, he offered both the back-up and the earbuds for $40 cash. Holla!!!

(Cue up Ice Cube's "Today Was a Good Day")

I'm about to hop in the shower, put on a freshly ironed button down, and head out to the airport early. I got my iPhone all hooked up w/ new songs and movies, so I won't mind waiting at the airport lounge/bar... Drink in hand, no doubt! Not sure what everyones' plans are for tonight, but I'm down fo' whateva. As I type this, Ryanb9 has almost double the starting stack in Event 1 of The Venetian Deep Stack. You can keep up with the results by going to Card Player's site: Just click on the day

Good luck to all the online grinders, as PokerStars SCOOP events got underway today. I'm not bringing my laptop, so I'll be playing anything that starts on and after Monday.

$20+2 $3K Guarantee on Stars is a sweet structure

I wish I kept records for haters at my table that end up kicking me into gear and I end up going deep in a tournament. LastChance81 (I'll have to check, possible variation change in name LastChance11?) was at my table and we got into a pot 3 way. The results had the hero scooping and the villain complaining about my game. A few minutes of snide remarks and then I made a comment that turned his attitude around. Eventually, we were talking friendly and he even visited my blog! Hello to you sir, if you are returning for another visit.

With playing a variety of games w/in any given day, it's hard to pay too much attention to one table, unless there's already a stack in play. I'm sure there are other good reasons, but for me - I start paying attention when someone starts chatting in the rail. The adage 'Don't tap the fishbowl' is completely warranted. So many times I'm running through a tournament with a little detachment. Once I get hater against me it becomes fun to raise my game and start PWNing. It doesn't work all the time, of course, but I can easily name 5 tournaments where I've scored over $1K... Whether the motivation from the hater can be pinpointed to the specific victory is still questionable, it's worth mentioning. I get to the FT with a pretty good chip lead. I realized not many people at the table were grinders and most didn't have OPR stats that concerned me. I noted the guys on my right and left and tried picking on their need to move up in cash. Getting Heads Up, I have about a 2 to 1 chip lead. Within 10 hands that turned 180 degrees is his favor. I jokingly asked Ose9 for a chop and he said he just wanted to play it out. I get even, and ask for another chop... Again, he declines. I get back up 2 to 1 and make a comment similar to "Man, you really shoulda chopped back there," leaving all my friends on the rail in stitches. The chips got passed back and forth one more time before a break came and I asked for a chop by chip count. Before Stars Support even got there we agreed on $3100 to him and $3392. I knew I had an overall edge on him, and we still had plenty of structure to go. But both of us were getting into the habit of 3bet-overpushing preflop once we were down in chips. I didn't want it to get away from me and giving up $300 in chop equity was worth it to make $700 more than a normal 2nd place finished would have received.

From there I went to The Spot, for a bit of live action, and proceeded to take $180 up to $500 (again, I don't know when to walk away and chalk up a win) before losing a few big hands. One in particular was a $500 pot where I had AsJs on a QsTx9s flop and Carlos had QQ where I didn't get any of my 15 outs, twice. (60% to 40% right?)

This week is exciting for sure. Thursday night I'm flying out to Vegas to meet members of The Improved Skype Crew, including Lightus and mattyd86. Matty is coming all the way from England and Fritty Cent (aka Sten Taxi Man Jonnsen, aka postbanken) is flying in from Sweden. Both have had great runs, especially postbanken... scoring I believe 3 or 4 seperate big scores of over a few grand each. I'm really excited to meet them as I've been talking to them on Skype for about two years now and originally our roots go back to the PokerXFactor days. I'm planning on playing the Midnight Madness at Caesars the night I arrive and waking up early for the Venetian Deep Stack on Friday for $300. That will be followed by Saturday's $500 tourney. Both days have the FT coming back the next morning and with me leaving Sunday night I won't even attempt to satty into Sunday's $1K event. So a big tourney on Friday and Saturday will fill my plate up for a good portion of the trip, as long as I don't see early exits. I'll play some $1/2 NLHE and maybe a PLO H/L if things go well, along with my newly found love in gambling: CRAPS!!! Thanks to Joe, aka doylesays, our last trip saw us exploring many tables along the strip to the tune of +$900. Let's see if I can make a similar run this time. Unfortunately, Joe went a few weeks ago and blew $900 in the 1st 40 minutes in Vegas! LOL

Have fun at the tables, maybe I can play some $12/180s and a few MTTs before I leave.

180s are my thing... But not 45s

Here is my 180 (all games) graph:

And here is my 45 (all games) graph:

So, that is total career games in that type of game. I took off like a rocket playing $6/45s but haven't been able to pick up anything in a long, long time. Just tonight I took 1st in a $7/180 and 4th in a $12/180 on PokerStars, both turbos. I need to put in more volume to make sure though. I need to calculate how many $12/180s I need to do each month to get Gold Star. If it's 5 VPPs for each $1, then I'd need to do 600 games, or 30 a day over 20 days in the month. I know I can double that each weekend day on average, giving me a 480 game head start on the month. That would leave me 10 a day on the weekdays that I play, taking the other 10 days of the month off. I'll take Friday nights off, so I can go out and unwind from the work week. Maybe I should take off Mondays too since I should have grinded out long days over the weekend. We'll see if I can stick to that schedule for a while and produce results.

If I can run these results over a long period, I might be able to make $3k/month. I took 600 games, at $12 each, and multiplied that by a 40% ROI ($12*600*.40), giving me $2880 in profit. The key will be volume and going over my HHs to plug leaks. Here are my career stats for 180s at all levels ($4, $11, $12, $20, $36) but mainly $12/180 turbos:

589 games played
$3,3943 profit
63% ROI

Obviously, this is a small sample size, but I never really gave much thought to playing a big amount of these. Now, I have some data that is pleasing and I'm curious if I with what I can do after 2,000 games. That should be a little over 3 months, and if I can maintain a 40% ROI or higher, I'm making over $9,600 profit. I'll set a goal until the end of May. Here is my goal, outlined:

End of May Goal:

- Play 1500 games of $12/180s, from March 23rd until May 31st.
- Maintain a 40% ROI or higher
- Make $6,000 profit

I know I'll be sprinkling in some $7/180s but I don't think they will have much effect on the outcome. With my current lifetime ROI being 63%, and my goal being anything over 40%, this should make up for me playing the lower games. Once I've completed this, I'll use June as a month to play Steps, hoping to win a few seats to the WSOP 2009 Main Event. I'm going this year, even if I only get one ticket. Good luck at the tables and set goals for success.

PS. No live cash for a while, sheesh... I need to read Harrington on Hold Em first, both books. Also, the Arizona Wildcats are playing the Cardinals of Louiseville in the NCAA Sweet 16. I'm excited for this game, we look really good out there.

Bear Down, Arizona!!

I can't believe I haven't blogged about this before. Arizona, 19-12, made it into the big dance... ranked 12th in the Midwest Bracket. Supposedly we match up well for the first two rounds, so we'll see if the boys are ready to beat down the Utes. Prediction, 68-62 with Nick Wise being Player of the Game w/ 4 3's along w/ 9 dimes. Basically, I suck as a sports fan. I'm the guy from the ESPN commercial who talks out his ass. (sorry, I searched for 30min for the YouTube)

Pokerwise, there are now 2 new underground poker rooms in town. One pretty far out of the way, that caters to the "Big Game" of $5/10 PLO w/ the occasional $1/2 NLHE spread. Then we have a room being run by a dealer from the old Casino Royale. Both locations being run out of the house, with the second spot being more central in location, close to the University of Arizona, and a client base similar to the old Club Royale (this location is w/in 1mile of Royale, so it makes perfect sense why this would be the case). My buddy Joe, doylesays on Stars, is a pimp in the live ring games around Tucson, booking a solid 9 out of 10 session profit on average. He's not aggressive and doesn't play too many hands... He just knows the flow of the local degenerates and even though they all know he's tight/good, they still end up losing pots to him. I'm trying to learn from him, but in reality its basic stuff that I know I should be able to control. I just have too much gamble in me and I play with my foot on the gas, w/out using the gear shifter. So today, after work, we plan on hitting up the central card room and watch U of A take down Utah in the first round of NCAA tourney.

So, I guess I told you the background of the cash games to bring up my results. First night at the Social House, the name and location of the big game, I took $380 to the game, got down to $45 stack before pushing into a limped straddle w/ K5s. 5 people to the flop, Kxx, and I turned a 5, which remarkably held. Two hands later, I'm not paying attention to the action, and I thought a fast/loose player opened for $29 (I thought he was AIPF) and I isolate to $100, with 44, get a AI caller in the CO, and then the fast/loose open raiser ended up having a c-note that I didn't see, so he's puts it in for a total of $129, which I had to call for odds. Fast/loose turns over Kd4d, and the CO AI caller had AQo (he's one of the owner/operators of the room and LOVES action so I rather liked seeing him in the hand anyways, but not necessarily that holding). I magically hold there too after a turned flush draw attempt, raking in a $450 total pot. The big game gathered, and slowly our $1/2 game got down to 3 handed (the negative affect of playing at that house... most $1/2 players showing up early are eventually just gonna migrate to the big game since that's what they're really there for). I attempted to strong play AT into AQ on a A high flop, but with him being new to the table, and a passive overall image, I really thought he'd raise AQ preflop but he wasn't showing any aggression but w/ $15 bets per street I didn't mind losing the smallish pot. Still, obviously we all want to win those pots, but I'm proud that I kept the pot small... Something I rarely do. So I walk out down $60 on the night.

Fast forward to yesterday, as that was from Monday night. We go to the centrally located room, being called "The Spot", after hearing about it while at the Social House. I take $330 to the game, and proceed to get down to around $80 (common theme) before making a Stop-Stop-Go against a LAG player that I've had plenty of time playing with. I have TT in EP and limp, knowing he'll usually raise me with our history. Not sure what he raised to (other common theme is me not paying attention to details like this...I'm hurting any chance at profit and quite possibly this leak is the reason I suck at live cash, but I love the social part =P) but he's OOP and I feel if I leave him enough rope, he's pushing most of his stacks since historically I've only called his re-agression like 20% of the time. It worked, cuz he takes 10 second to think about it and then gets his stack in there which I instantly called and got lucky with Broadway cards coming out on 4th and 5th streets for the possible over pair or straight. My stack fluctuated up and down the rest of the night until Hussain got there. This is our Middle Eastern cab driver friend that pretty much PWNs my soul any given chance. He's loose, he's a gambler, and he's a much better suckout artist than myself. He loves action and I'm too stupid to not give it to him. We both respect each other's game, but this is basically the guy that EVERYONE IN TUCSON wants playing at their game... But damn if he's not affiliated with the devil or something. The story goes, one hand we have a straddle and he open raises UTG to $15, folded to me I push my $80-120ish stack to isolate him w/ 77, knowing he's calling LITERALLY 90% of the time. He loves the gamble, and I've turned into being one of the guys willing to go back and forth with him, which he inevitably loves. I flop a set and hold, but eventually I dumped the whole stack and borrowed $100 from Joe before cashing in $88 and good ol' Joe whiped the $12 loss off on his tab. Down $330 for yesterday, along w/ $60 for Monday brings me to a -$390 live cash game tally on the week.

Jeeez, long post ey? Thanks for sticking with me, cuz here's the climax... I come home, load 2 x $12/45s and 2 x $12/180s and eventually took 1st in a $12/180. Transferred $300 to a trebomber's brother and now have $300 cash to go back to the live game! I know... wtf am I thinking? Well, for one both Joe and I have been wishing for a room to be open again after the closing of Club Royale. Secondly, U of A plays at 4pm and what better way to watch a game than by bringing a 12 pack to the underground house and playing some pokah!!! Yes, we can bring drinks to the game now cuz it's a house, not a business establishment! It's probably a little risky, security wise, but w/e... It is what it is, and I am what I am (a degen).

Look forward to a weekend report, highlighting U of A making it to Sweet 16, me coming up on a sick run in the live game, and a possible BR building weekend playing $12/180s leading up to a Sunday of MTTs. Also, I need to squeeze in an ICM study session w/ ryanb9. Good luck if you're playing!

I miss my dogs

My ex-wife sent me a picture of Booger. Booger was given to us a few years ago, the day after Thanksgiving, w/in a week of us having to put down our pitbull "Biggie". Biggie got into the oleander bush and got sick. By the time we realized what was happening, the oleander had affected his nervous system and it was too late. So our neighbor kid, realizing we were aching from our loss, had found Booger and offered to give him to us since his mom probably wasn't going to let him keep him.

So after bringing Booger into the house, Patee was driving home from work and almost ran over a chihuahua (possibly mini pincher mix). We adopted him too, and the kids named him Paco. He's the cutest lil thing and since we had tile floors, and he's so tiny, it'd get too cold for him. We normally wouldn't allow dogs on the furniture, so Paco and Booger worked out a deal:

Cute, huh? I miss my dogs, but they need their family more than they need me. When the chance arises for me to go over there, they greet me with the most love imaginable. Sometimes it hurts because I can feel their innocence. At times, it's as if they are telling me they are sorry and they didn't mean to make me leave. Oh, break-ups are tough on everyone, including pets.

Start phucking, DONKEY!!!

Today's entry on Fuck You, Penguin is about our beloved Donkey. If none of you know about this great daily blog, please clue yourself in. Thanks to Vanessa Selbst's blog, http://fslexcducktales.com/, I am now a FUP fan. Soon to come will be my 3XL t-shirt.

Anyways... This donkey is the long haired version, and he looks like a bohemian. I nabbed the picture from the FUP blog. ENJOY:

Mactastic!!!

VMWare makes a great product called Fusion for the Mac. If you own a Intel chipped Mac computer, and you want to run windows programs on it, you might want to check out this company. Similar to Parallels, VMWare emulates the Windows environment which is needed to run many poker sites along with resource software such as Poker Tracker 3 and I'm sure a list of others.

Yesterday I mentioned needing to Boot Camp my iMac so I could run WinXP on both monitors. Well, I went onto VMWare's community site to verify I couldn't do it w/in their program and I ran across a KB stating it's not supported in version 1. I stumble across a link that gives Fusion 2.0.2 free to all V1 customers. Usually you have to pay a small upgrade fee so I was quite surprised by their graciousness. After installing I was firing on both monitors without adjusting anything. Luckily, I can still stay in my Mac environment while still in Windows. Truly, the best of both worlds!!!

Poker news: I had a few deepish runs last night. Starting with Cake, I played the Nightly $10K gtd for $50+5 and came in 18th for $134.46. The competition was actually tough getting into the money. Creme rises. Also, on FTP, I got into a few MTTs and their $15K gtd ($10 rebuy) was the one I ended up cashing. I made it to 17th for another $100 score. I think I invested $50 total in that one. I didn't have a chance to fire up any 6max SNGs, I truthfully I need to get through a good sample size to know whether they are viable long term for my game. (I know they should be with jhub3000 and his staker voss1313 working them for hundreds of thousands per year) I think I'm taking tonight off to play PS3 and possibly watch Transformers on Blueray. Life is good. Again, I stress to take out money with your winnings and buy something that every time you use it you think about how you won it from playing a game online. What a awesome hobby to have!!!

My new set up

It's not the ballerist (new word) but it suits me well. On the left we have my computer set up. It's the 24" iMac with a 2nd 24" Westinghouse monitor. Both purchased from my profits from poker. Under the table is my old PC which I'll be giving to a buddy since I won't need it anymore. Along with that will be another 24" monitor that I won't be using. My PC, along with both monitors, produces WAAAY too much heat for my liking and the iMac is perfect and space saving. Tonight I'm going to Boot Camp my iMac and run Windows XP as a native OS, while still keeping my OS X options for Mac usage. I found a glitch using VMWare: it will not allow windows on either monitor for the "Unite" feature. This means I can only have Windows on one monitor, leaving my other iMac side for surfing and other internet related activities. Once Boot Camp'd I'll be able to run Windows XP on both screens. Minor adjustments, but truthfully I don't need anything "Mac" related while playing poker... And that's the main reason I'm on my computer anyways, so the Mac side is for my music production.

I followed Nat Arem's "Ten Steps to Secure Yourself Online for $50" and I gotta tell ya, things are running a lot smoother. It was quite a chore remembering the various accounts and passwords and RoboForm2Go is a great recommendation for safety. In researching Roboform, I realized I could run it on a U3 USB thumbdrive, so I procured one, but I didn't realize just how many programs can be ran right off the stick. I've gone through every important online account and changed my password to a randomly generated p/w. My only concern is what happens if I lose the USB drive? LMAO

To recap my weekend... Saturday night I final tabled FTP's $17K guarantee, and took 6th for $990. I had a few big stacks in the Sunday tournies, but nothing amounted to a decent cash. I think I might have pulled in $100 in the earlier $3 rebuy. Sunday night I was chilling out and decided to play some cash on Cake, and turned $200 into $1000 fairly quickly. After the last few withdraws, I still have my roll at $3300, splashed around Stars, FTP and Cake. I'm still going to register for $12/180's and concentrate on more 6max SNG's. I still need to sign up w/ BlueHost for my own website, and at that time I'll make the switch to either WordPress or LiveJournal.

Good luck at the tables.

Poker score updates

Hello all,

I've slacked on keeping everyone in the loop as far as my poker winnings. Here are the key cashes on PokerStars that have put me at my current bankroll:

- 2/14/09 - Quaid745 and I chopped a $5 2r1a for $2,400 each

- 2/25/09 - 2nd in a $12/180 for $396

- 2/26/09 - 1st in a $12/180 for $594

- 2/26/09 - 2nd in $27.50 turbo $8,000 guarantee for $2400

After the chop with Quaid, I took out $1K and still waiting for that to hit my checking account. I'll also be taking out another $1K. I've always been a believer of taking out a little and rewarding yourself. Tonight, after work, I'll be going to Costco to purchase a new 46" Toshiba LCD 120hz television along with a PlayStation3 (for blueray mainly) and a few movies. I'll post with pictures of the complete living room set up, including my computer set up, sometime this weekend.

Taking out my money, I'm leaving myself with a $2k bankroll to work with. I've spread some money onto Full Tilt and Cake so I can slowly grind out a few 6max SNGs. My plan is to continue grinding PokerStars $12/180 SNGs as well as incorporating in 6max play from time to time. If I feel the need to play cash, I'm going to play a few tables of $25NL. I want a big sample size in cash before I decide to move up into more grinder levels (50NL-400NL) and I need a bigger roll to play anything over 50NL. With my cash game being soooo weak, I'll stay away until I have the desire to put in a good amount of study time.

I've opened up my weekend schedule to insure maximum opportunity to ride this wave I'm on. Good luck to you all this weekend. Thank you for all my friends that support me through my poker adventures. Special shout out to Improved, who was kind enough to bless the rail in last nights 2nd place. Also kudos to: quaid745, jackbileduct, Surphman, Lightus, tcarnage and of course birddog2631, and all the other Improved Skype Crew affiliates, for sticking with me during my crazy times and helping me tighten up my game.

Changing gears.

Soon I will be blogging from my own website, using WordPress for my blogging. This came to pass while emailing Nat Aram about Poker Co-Pilot for his Apple-Poker.com site. I've had the desire to be linked to other poker bloggers for a while now and most serious bloggers have their own site. Not only will this allow me to have a cleaner blog interface, but this will also allow me to branch out and have other things on my site that I really want, like music.

I've used BlueHost in the past for my DJ websites, and ironically that's the company Nat named after I mentioned using GoDaddy. I'm used to BlueHost's services and layout so it's a no brainer. Before, my wife was my Webmaster, but now I'll need to rely on the plug and play options available in the BlueHost suite of products. I'll let everyone know when I've got things settled.

Maybe some suggestions on the name of the site? The name will obviously be the URL too, so I was thinking of something like "kylemillionpoker.com". I'd love to use "kylemillion.com" but some small time musician already has that site. One day I'll buy him out! LOL j/k (maybe though, sky IS the limit)

SUPERBOWL Bound!!!

Arizona Cardinals did the unexpected! We'll be matching up against the Pittsburgh Steelers for the SuperBowl!! Here's what you can expect:

Here's what is going on in my head:

- Lagunitas "Brown Shugga" is a tasty beer w/ 9.5% alcohol w/out tasting like tar.
- I'm happy that a team I've supported for years finally is in the championship game.
- I'm back in classes at Univ of Phoenix, writing classes currently.
- My roll dawg, DJ Speedy, is coming back from Manila, Phil. soon. (miss you man)
- XBox 360 is allowing me to stay connected with my brother in Florida (miss you too)
- Poker is becoming less important to me each passing day.
- I'm eating healthier and making efforts to better my lifestyle.

So, I'm gonna take a break from poker. I'm not sure for how long, but it's just not providing me the joy that I'm used to. I've come to expect things from poker, and I'm not meeting my expectations. I have a small loan out, so I'll be looking to get that paid off so it's not hanging over my head. I wish you all success at the tables.

AZ CARDINALS ARE THE SHIT!!!!

My girlfriend bought me this box cuz she's knows I'm a big Cardinals fan:

Speaking of girlfriend... I haven't really "let the cat outta the bag" through my blog. I quickly touched on my pending divorce in the past, which is now final. However, I usually keep my blog me-centric. Previously, I was deferring from mentioning her mainly because my ex-wife has been known to troll my blog for information. Well now I don't care. A few recent events have finally put us in the "I hate you" category. We tried to part peacefully but divorces bring out crazy emotions and it's just hard do it any other way.

To recap the weekend, UofA won big time, AZ Cardinals won... BIG TIME (and with the Eagles winning, it puts us in the spot of HOSTING the NFC Championship game next weekend)and I also won my lil' bet w/ quaid745. He let me off sometime in the Saturday evening hours. Fact is quaid745 took down a $109 turbo on Stars for a bit over $11K. Congratulations goes out to him, and I saw an opportunity to ask him out early w/out penalty which he graciously obliged.

Sunday was a uninspiring day. It was my first day back to MTT grinding, and grinding I did not do. My bankroll doesn't really allow me to get crazy so I played a few of the early micros leading up to PokerStar's Sunday $200K guarantee ($11+1 entree). Normally I'd keep on regging and eventually end up at either a final table or a ridiculously small BR. This time I decided to call it a day early and play XBox instead. GG me, as I still have a workable roll.

Nothing really in the works for this week. Sunday is the BIG GAME and then Monday I start back at University of Phoenix. Have fun playing pokah!!

Edit on Tuesdau: I'm tired of female drama. I'm a single man again, but not on the prowl. I have my degree, my career, my poker and my music to keep me busy for a while.

It's Saturday and here's my gumbo!

So, I'm still going strong with my quaid bet. It's quite possible he'll open up Sunday for me and let me off a day early. Nothing is set it stone but we'll see. My ROI is in the dumps, I've been battling with shitty internet this last week and finally got that resolved. But I'd get a set going and then my internet would reboot, and reboot, and again reboot. This created serious tilt and what can I do... The good news is I'm starting to strengthen my starting hand requirements early in the blind levels. Just call me late to the party. My issue now is I need to get better at push/fold as I previously just relied on luck and sucking out, whereas now I need to learn ICM correctly and not just on a hunch. This sounds dumb but I've overcome my AQ play. It's now an instafold unless late and suited.

Today I'll be going to the U of A vs. Oregon State basketball game and then coming home to watch the AZ Cardinals take on Carolina Panthers. I've decided not to go out to a bar and watch it cuz I don't like to drive home drunk after. Plus, I'll be able to rock out on my iMac and play 4 table sets of 45 mans.

Since leaving PXF Gank and Scott Clements have signed on. I'm probably gonna have to sign back on. I miss the hand replayer the most.

GL UofA, GL AZ Cardinals. Fuggit... GL ME!!!

$100 prop bet w/ quaid745

We have ourselves an innocent prop bet where I have to go 2 full weeks with playing NOTHING BUT 45-man SNG's. We have a $100 on the line and I have to last until 01-07-2009. I'm real excited about this bet, not for the money but for the discipline. Already I've found a quick groove as last night netted me a little under $200 profit. I'll keep updates with my daily results. OPR is currently not showing my games from last night, but I want to give daily updates similar to others' blogs.

I'll track:

Total Games Played
Total Revenue
Revenue Per Game

My goal at the end is to have a bankroll of $1500.

AZ Cardinals win their first playoff game!

Okay... So, not really. It was the last game of the regular 2008 NFL Season and the Cardinals said all week they are going to play this game like a playoff game. Well, I would have liked to see better Defense from the squad. Our secondary looks weak and I'm sure we're going to get punished once we win our Wildcard match and have to travel east in the cold weather. But hey... we're in the playoffs for the first time since Jake the Snake's '98 squad. How you like my pic with Big Red? Sweet, huh?

Poker Recap:

Man this weekend sucked for me pokah wise. Thursday was Christmas and I treated myself to some EMM TAY TAYs and damn it if I didn't hit a stride in even a micro. Oh well, all is not lost as my Flatcall Skype Crew affiliate, postbanken, scored 5th (out of 8,592 runners) in the FTP $100K Double Deuce which from here on out will be named the "Bacon Double Cheeseburger". His score was good for a bit over $6,700. Great job POSTBANKEN, we all love and admire the fritzman, aka Fritty Cent, aka Sten Jonnson.

Not much else to report. After talking to Jakuta last night, who recently talked to Quaid745 regarding this, I'm going to spend at the minimum 1 week playing NOTHING BUT THE $6/45's. I want to master this particular game so I can always have something to come back to if/when times get tough and I feel I can't win at anything. I've basically been doing this anyways, but I haven't been disciplined enough to stick to it. I know I can accomplish this and pad my bankroll in the process. OPR me to see if I'm sticking to my guns and give me shit at the tables if you find me doing anything else prior to January 11th. I want to give myself more than a week and I want to end on a Saturday night, after which I will evaluate my game and BR and look into playing that Saturday night and Sunday in some MTT's as a reward for my hard work and diligence. Have fun on the virtual felt, until next time...

PS, "Put a Donk On It" is now my official ringtone!!!

Put a Donk on it!!

First off... to watch this video, go to the left side and turn off my song playing in the playlist. Okay, this video is infecting my life. I love it!! FWIW, I was searching for N-Dubz videos (a UK dance hip hop act) and found them on their record label's channel. Here's N-Dubz video too (cuz it's that good):

Let's talk poker. Last night was a great night for the K-Man!!! I got HU in a $10 MTT on FTP for $477. I find myself around 15bbs w/ J9s and instead of limping or folding I open raised, got RR'd so I had to go since I didn't leave myself with too many options. That didn't work out, but I feel good about my play as 2 days ago I finished 4th in another $10 MTT on FTP for $385. While that tourney was getting down to the nitty gritty I was also reg'd in a few $12/180's. In 11 12/180's I scored in 3, taking 7th, 3rd, and 10th. There's a UBER sick hand that got me deep in the one I finished 3rd:

http://www.pokerhand.org/?3629073

So, the good news is last night improved my bankroll by $600 and I now have over $500 on both PokerStars and FullTiltPoker. This is perfect since I'm looking to get out of work early today and turn this into a nice long 4.5 day weekend. I'm going to set a goal this weekend to DOUBLE my bankroll again. So I'll be looking to end Sunday night with an accumulated bankroll of $2k. Here's to successful grinding!!!

Searching...

Today has been a fairly slow day at work. I started off watching WiltOnTilt's "Math of NL Holdem" series. I had seen it prior, but wanted to get back into training. Then my attention was drawn to the internet and I started reading my blog, starting with my first post in 2008. I considered it a trip down memory lane, and a "review" of my year blogging and playing poker. What can I say? I'm proud of myself and the way I've handled myself as a player. I don't abuse my readers with stories of bad beats, however I would like to see myself report on OTHER important things in my life away from the tables.

One thing kept coming up in my blogs, MY NEED TO PLAY $6/45's and GRIND GRIND GRIND. Several times I had overcome the depths of debt and whittled a small profit for a "workable roll" and each time I'd promise myself that I'd stick to a strict diet of $6/45s and 180's. I never succeeded with sticking to my guns, and I wonder if I'll ever be cut out for proper bankroll management. I'm feeling my time here at my job is coming closer to an end. I'm doing great in my position, however all things must come to an end and I'd feel better if I had a game plan to roll with instead of expecting to stay here as long as I want. In the past I was really looking at poker as an alternative to a job. Two years and a few months into my campaign and I'm becoming more guarded about this choice. Poker is damn tough and is no doubt getting tougher with time. I don't find myself growing as a player at the same pace that the community as a whole is getting better.

I do feel good about going back to college and having my company pay for it. I feel tat provides an extra "hook" that'll keep me in the loop here cuz I figure nobody wants to pay for an education and then lay them off w/out getting a ROI. So I can staying here another 4-5 years. I started out having a 5yr goal to become a pro poker player. I have 3yrs to accomplish this with an extra 2yrs of padding while I work for the company for 1yr after graduation. Knowing that I have all this time, I'm able to put my goals into perspective.

That's another theme I noticed from reading my blog of 2008. I have goals... Goals which I thrive to hit and therefore creating the need for new goals. This year has been chaos and I'd like to see myself getting in the habit of marking down each game I enter and keeping track of wins/losses per event type.

I also am starting to think that the $12/180s should be played ONLY when I have a roll of $600. The variance is too big to try to run with something smaller than that. Again, I'm back to $6/45 land. It's a place I'm comfortable with and the wins are just big enough to make me feel good about playing. I'm also going to vow to read more 2+2 threads and start to become active in their community. We'll see though... I've set these as my goals a few times prior to this and I don't have anything showing I follow through with my plans.

I'd like to bring back the Suckout of the Night, or maybe get one hand per session that I can pull out and discuss in my blog. Who knows... Maybe next year end I'll go through another review and I could use these HHs to see where I'm improving. Take care, and happy playing!!!

Starting fresh?

Here's to new adventures. On December 18th I'll be officially divorced. A lot of emotions are tied up in that, but all in all we are still friends and will rely on each other for probably the rest of our lives. I'm thankful to have kept a friend through all this. Secondly, the local NL card room is apparently closing it's doors. I don't know all the details but I don't think the closing is solely to blame on the pending trial (Tribe Casinos vs. Club Royale). I found out from the wife-owner they are getting divorced, and I could easily see this shutting down to dissolve the marriage. It feels as though another barrier has been taken from my path... Now I can grind online w/out the feelings of wanting to drive that 1 mile to the card room.

I had some debts online, and after playing Thurs-Sat at the card room I woke up Sunday with renewed vigor. Ended up borrowing a titch more to get me rolling, and it didn't take long to take down another $12/180 turbo on PokerStars. A friend with a Sharkscope account filtered a search for all $12/180's and it appears as though I come up a "Shark". I remember a year ago coming across this however I never would have guessed that after over a year of continued playing that I'd even be remotely close to profitable. Stats don't lie!! I'm also doing fair in the 45's but my ROI is more than double in 180's versus any other game. So, I'm planning on just grinding these out for a while to see where I end up. From what I remember, I have like a 80% ROI lifetime, so let's be conservative over this short sample size and say I pull in ONLY a 20%. I can predict an average of 10 games per day, with an average return of $24/day. I should easily be able to grind out $150/week profit from just playing these quick lil' games.

Oh, BTW, after cashing $594 for first I was able to payback all the debts and keep enough to be dangerous. I'll try to keep cash games to a minimum cuz I obviously don't know when to get up and leave ahead. Until next time...

Hi!! Welcome back... (LONG POST ALERT)

I've been in the shadows for a while, trying to get my life in order. Poker is a tough game, and we all know it takes all your focus and energy to succeed. I was not able to give myself to the game in the way I knew was needed... So I took a break. A fairly long break. I'd come back to play here and there, but I knew deep down I was only there for a moment. I didn't mean to take such a long break, as finances played the biggest role in this journey. Or was it that damn local poker room? I hope I never owe any money again. It's not a good feeling to know you're behind. Problems pile on top of more problems. It feels good to be out of that.

My life is really starting to turn around. With any divorce, there is a period of time where you feel lost. Where you start to question yourself and your decisions. Well, I've moved past that point and now have both feet on the ground. I'm attending college at University of Phoenix, which is helping out a lot. I'm going for a degree in Finance (BSB/F) and the best part is my company pays $5K/year in tuition reimburse!

So now I'm back in the mix. Nothing too crazy, I put a few hundred online and I'm going to work within my bankroll. I miss poker, and I don't want another downswing affecting my ability to play. If I maintain proper bankroll management, I should be able to play for a long time to come. I'm more focused than ever and I don't need to get rich quick. I do not have external pressures making me feel like I need to win NOW. I know I'm good enough to win at a small rate, and that's exactly what I need to keep an interest in the game. I've got great friends inside the poker community, and outside, and everyone is genuinely interested in seeing me achieve my goals. I have no more excuses... I have my money in order, my mind in order, and now my life in order. Watch out, because here I come. You can find me rocking the $6/45's again, and my goal is to get to $600 so I can start mixing in the $12/45's. I might be able to squeeze in a MTT here and there, but on Stars the fields are so big the chances just are great enough for me to attempt them at this time. For now, I'll work on the game within the game.

Thanks to all my Improved Skype Crew mates for sticking with me these last few months. I look forward to spending some serious time online going forward. Peace out yo!!

1st time making Platinum

Wouldn't it be cool to rock this all the way until the end of the year and squeek out a Supernova? I doubt it, but it gives me confidence and gives me something to prepare for for next year.

How'd I do it? I rode a roller coaster the first week of the month w/ double VPP's. I accomplished most of it there, and I think I left myself 1500 VPP's to earn.

Monday, July 7, 2008

Hey... I'm alive!!!

Some would think that after my big win I'd be living the fast life. On the contrary, I've been doing great. I HAVEN'T wasted the money away, weee!!! After spending through easily 10% of it that weekend, paying directly into Step 2's and even a few Step 3's... And also buying into the Sunday Million and other bigger entry fee MTTs, I withdrew a good amount to insure I wouldn't blow through it all. My ex had car problems that left her w/ $1600 in bills she couldn't pay, so I helped out with that. I paid off both my credit card bills and they haven't had a ZERO balance since I opened them up! LOL

I have money in my savings account, which is also a first in a long time. DUDE!! I'm even drawing interest! WP Me!!! Within a month or two I'll be able to open up an online bank account with higher (5%+) interest rates. I want to get a few more paychecks coming before I do that and with my budget, I have plenty left over from payday! I also plan on ramping up my 401K plan, since I left that dormant w/out depositing for all of 2007 due to Patee going back to school.

Now onto POKER: I've had a great month so far. Thanks to PokerStars 2X promo, I was focused on securing my 2nd month in a row as GoldStar... Mission accomplished July 3rd!!! HOLY SHIT, right? 3 days into the month? Welp, after Thursday night's home game I came home and fired up some PokerStars. This has been a steady practice of mine... It's crazy that when I'm at the home game I don't care if I don't do well cuz I know I can go home, fire up the computer, and have a good shot at coming out ahead. (Friday nights are my most profitable night...Thurs night being a 3-day weekend night) @ 2am, PokerStars was running the $33 $10K Guarantee and I went into HU w/ 2.5X the CL. I was going bananas that night with aggression and I did not let up during HU either. All I remember was when he got his 1st double up he offered a chop (since we were even stacks) and I didn't even reply. All-in-all I need to have a different perspective over chopping. Who the fuck am I to think I can win even slightly more than 50% of them? I do it more for the experience to be honest, and yes... The feeling of winning it all is super sweet. I don't feel bad about it, the gentleman that won was the only other $5K+ ROI guy at the table (at least that I remembered looking up on OPR).

That night also witnessed me FT the $4K PLHE GTD that FullTilt puts on in the weeee hours of the morning. I also had the CL shortly before getting into the FT of the PLHE MTT too... But somehow I shat on myself and welp, went out 8th I believe. Shit, honestly, it's all a blur when I play. I just press forward and register for whatever I can and just play and chip up, play and chip up. Eventually I find myself w/in earshot of the FT and then I put on the pressure to get the bigstack quickly. I know my way isn't the best by any means, but it's a style I feel comfortable playing with and for now I'm fine w/ my level of success. Eventually I'll be refining and trying to maximize my EV, but for now I just don't have the desire to do more!

Back to the VPP hunt: It's now July 7th, and I'm 498 VPPs away from attaining PLATINUM STAR!!! Holy shit!!! 10K VPP each month... Is there even a remote chance that I can keep up with that pace?? Well, I was going nuts playing STT SNGs, which I rarely do since I've got a -ROI overall. I started playing $27s, which turned into $38s the next day and then I capped it w/ a few $60 turbos. Friggin nuts I tell ya. But in reality, I was "technically" playing within my bankroll. However, if I can't beat the lower games I stand no chance in the bigger games. Luckily, I ended the weekend maybe down a few hundred on SNGs but the FPPs and chance at Platinum Star "hopefully" made up for the small loss. I definitely feel I've improved my SNG game by leaps and bounds. My main leak now is just going on autopilot and waking up to 2 hands in and my stack is down 33%. UGH, I'd be rich if not for my autopilot. If I could solve this I sure would... Personally, I'm going to take the easy way out and blame it on my ADD. Now I feel better.

I'm all set w/ a game plan to insure I'm focused on success. I've outlined rules to my bankroll and I feel comfortable with the restrictions I've put on myself. I've left a bit of openness for the weekend, with Monday thru Thursday being the most basic of days. I'll focus on $12/45's, $12/180's, $27/45's and when my bankroll is over $4K at the start of any day I'll throw in $36/180s. There are no cash games in my immediate future. I have an initial goal to get my current roll over $6K. When I accomplish that, I'll set out new goals which might include signing up for CardRunners and start studying cash games then. Other than those 45's and 180's, I'll be doing the standard tourneys on PokerStars each night. Basically anything under $30... To include, but not limited to: $20K GTD, $11 1r1a, $25K GTD and $9.90/360max.

Sorry for such a long blog, I guess that's what happens when I'm away for awhile. If you have feedback, I'm the kind of guy that will ask for it AND actually use it to get better. If you have any questions about my play, requested HH's... Shoot pretty much anything, I'm an open book and here to help if I can. Otherwise, just sit back and wait for the next installment of me! lolz

$3500, working bankroll to date.

Who's the big winner!?!?!?!

Yuuuup. The clouds parted, the light shined through and this dog's ass just caught a piece of the sun!!! (cliche: Sun shines on a dog's ass every once in a while)

For PXF members: You can log in and view my hand history, which I've made public: WSOP Step 6 Win For those that don't have access, here's at least the last hand. For pot control I didn't want to raise until the turned scare card came. Little did I know just how bad of shape I was, but honestly I was getting decent odds to call the reraise. I felt if the river didn't help me, I'd have enough chips to still make my run w/ 13BB's. TBH, I'm just a sucker for the open-ender!

What can I say? I'm still a bit in a daze and it's been a few days, and I had the weekend to get it outta my system. One thing's for sure, I'm not going to get nuts and buy in big to all these MTTs (I already had Sunday for that). In fact, I've pulled out a good deal of that money and plan to play w/in my bankroll w/ regards to what I have online. I still want to take the rest of this week and play the Steps just in the off chance I can do it again, but also because I'm 2K in VPP's away from Platinum Star... One run into a Step 6 again and I'm there. Double VPPs means a cool 1K VPPs JUST for the Step 6 alone!!!

It'll be tough because I'm going to LA for the weekend and have to get a few things squared away like the oil changed in my Jeep and maybe balance/rotate the tires. Luckily, I have a wireless broadband card and a laptop, so I'll have some time to play IF there is any downtime.

Have a great week/weekend of poker. Hopefully I can get another seat before the end of the month!! If I win another seat, I'm soooooo playing in the Main Event!!!

Taking a break to remix a song "GO"

UPDATE 6/11/08:
DJ Speedy came by after work, and we got Sony Sound Forge 8.0 loaded up and we started chopping parts of the song up. They are saved as .WAV files and they'll easily fire into Reason 3.0's Redrum program. Next we'll hook up the MIDI player and start sequencing this bad mamma jamma.

Cutting down the files was sooo easy. I tried getting the song into Audacity but it came thru in a weird format and I couldn't figure out how to fix it. Thanks to Sound Forge we didn't have to wait too long. I highly recommend SF if you're splicing song pieces. I'm sure it does more, so we'll see as we go. (Update for 6/11/08)

Go - DJ Baby Anne

I love breakbeats... Mainly they are the backdrop of hip hop, so there's not much difference as far as the sound and taste. This song brings back memories of when we went up to Phoenix to see DJ Irene @ Myst. We bought this CD on the way and it was just BANGIN!!! Now a few years later, Speedy and I want to remix this song and try to get it out in a club.

Uberzone will be here 8.08.08, so that's our time slot to have it done by. It'd be super dope if Uberzone felt compelled to play it! BOH BOH BOH. So, we'll see...

Here's a remix from Malicious Mike (from imeem):
Jimmy Rhodes - Go - Malicious Mike

If anything it'll just give me some time away from the tables.

Vegas report:

Where do I start? We flew Southwest, and stayed at MGM. Myself, doylesays, bettrvue, and another buddy (don't know his online name but we call him Farha) made the trip. 1st night there we all get into the Venetian 2nd chance tourney for $180. Nobody cashed...

At some point in the night doylesays ran into Paris Hilton and her entourage. He was walking out of the poker room and down their main hallway from the front desk. That's where the "magic" happened. Paris happens to be his favorite celebrity so you can imagine the elation that came from him the rest of the trip. He started playing craps that night a lil and also the next day. The next day was Friday and everyone but Farha reg'd for the Venetian Deep Stack.

My starting table gave me the pleasure to sit to the left of Johnny The Italian Stallion. To his claim, he's the one that got Johnny Chan off on the right foot in Vegas. He said after Chan played his first night on a borrowed $30 he came to The Italian Stallion and said "This game is sooo easy." He never looked back and we all know what happened after that. So I'm playing the first few hours with a real legend, amazing feeling!!! I feel I made an impression on him, so it'll be cool to see him in Vegas here and there as I go back for more. He was a pleasure to talk to and he shared some great insight on a few of his hands. bettrvue went out first on I think AQ vs AK. I was next to go out, but not after hanging in there for the 7th level. I was at tables with aggressive players to my left all day. I didn't want to make any dumb moves so I just tightened up like the good book says to and waited for my spots, which were far and few between. I had to make my ALL IN move w/ 12 BB's w/ JJ and got called by the table CL in the BB w/ AQo. Flopped an ace and I didn't make my 2 outer. GG me, but hey... what can you do, right?

Saturday was the day for CRAPS!! I'd never played before this trip, and doylesays tought me a bit Friday night after the DeepStack and Saturday we put my learning to use. We started off at MGM, where we were staying, and I think we got stuck a quick $100 due to my shitting rolling. We went to Excalibur and our luck changed along with a dealer, Fred, giving me the best advice I could have heard. He taught me about maxing my odds on the Press Line. The more you max out those odds, the worse the house has it. So with that in mind, we proceeded to take down about $250 from Excalibur and quit while ahead. We spent the rest of the day walking up the strip and stopping in each spot that had a low limit Craps table. O'Sheas was real fun, with the table real close to the strip sidewalk so we felt the vibe of the city. We walk in and there's a midget dressed up as a leprechaun blowing a whistle as he walked on the bar, going around pouring straight shots of margarita in peeps mouths. Fun times, great atmosphere. We didn't miss all day, raking in about $900 for me and about $1100 for doylesays.

Now I was back to even on the trip, and with it being our last day I didn't mind gambling. I was drunk from the day of craps already... Hold on, OMG!!!! I've always played blackjack or slots in Vegas and NEVER got the kinds of drinks that we got at the Craps table. HOLY SHIT do they keep 'em coming!! Craps and free drinks!?!?!?!? FTW! So we sit down at the $2/5 table at MGM planning on playing thru the night and catch up w/ sleep on the flight back or when we got home.

Being drunk, I thought I could "play this image" of a UBER drunk. The joke was on me though, since I really was as drunk as I "tried" to pull off. Oh well, I lost $700 at the tables and w/ the last $160 in my wallet I decided to plunk it down at Craps for one last shot. Come to find the normal $10 tables are packed at 5am (who does that?!?!?!) I found a guy playing by himself and I thought we'd get more rolls in. NOPE!! $25 table, WTF???? Oh well, pride kept me there and I put $25 on the pass hoping for a 4 or 10 to hit so my max odds were less. NOPE! 8 hits, I max out as planned and just prayed!! 2 rolls in he throws a 7 and I'm heading back up to the room for a shower. Needless to say my ego was shot when I find out both doylesays and bettrvue ended up ahead over $900 in the ring games! GG Vegas. Next time I'm not going to have fun, but to take home some cash. Ring games there are easy peazy, I just need to be on point and not drink. That won't be hard, my pride is HUGE!

1st nights alone are tough, but not for Kyle Million

I've told a few, but I'm not sure just how many know... I moved out of my house, and asked my wife for a divorce. This was on April 25th, and I've spent the last month living with a close friend, trebomber, and his wife. I've now moved into my very own place, a 1 bedroom guest house. It's quite perfect for me.

My first night in my home was this last Sunday, and I had Monday off for the holiday. I love playing in the middle of the night. The focus I gain, along with the lack of solid players, makes it so much more profitable. I registered for the normal set of tourneys, including the $20/180 max. This is the exact tournament I won for my first $1K score... In that event there were 171 entries when the MTT started. This time, wouldn't you know, there were exactly 171 entries again! Irony FTW!! Yessir, I TID in standard Kyle Million fashion.

With this win, I'm now listed as 21st in Arizona on www.pocketfives.com. I've been playing very well. I took down last week's home game too. I won my first $10/180 SNG recently, and have started to get a winning streak going on single table SNG's.

Work is slowing down since it's after tax season. In between calls I watch PXF videos, and currently I'm finishing up the Apestyles videos. I'm finding it hard to want to train when I'm at home, but it's still only been a few days.

Vegas is only 1 week away. Good luck at the tables!!

Ship the casino chop!!!

Well folks, I'm halfway towards another goal of mine. I went into last night's FT w/ a commanding lead, approx. 22% of the chips in play. We get down to 6 handed, and I have over HALF THE CHIPS in play. It was a retarded night, I was on point, the cards where coming, and I was holding every race and sucking out with authority. My only bad hand came 2nd to last hand of the night. I go into a great player, and dealer at the other local casino, w/ JTs. He RRs pre and I flat OOP (eeek). Flop comes QTx w/ 2 cards to the flush, and I watched him analyze the board and I just read him for NOT HAVING a Queen. I check the flop, he raises about 3/4th's the pot and I shove him. He instacalls w/ ATo and I get crippled into 2nd in chips. Prior to this happening I wouldn't chop. AFTER this I decided it'd be best to chop instead of donking out for $400. Even though Steve had me outchipped once he doubled through me, we still worked the chop where the 3 other guys put in $100 for us to split. So I ended up just fine even though I technically left $1K on the table by playing JTs a bit loose. Live and learn! Still I made good w/ $1586.

So I have a trip to Vegas already lined up for June 6th. We're flying out of Tucson at 3:45pm on Thursday and coming back early Sunday morning. We originally planned to play the Caesar's MEGA Stacks events on Friday and Saturday. Now that I know The Venetian is having their Deep Stack Extravaganza going on at the same time, I might go there instead. They'll probably have more heads playing so my money will go further, obviously!! My buddy Joe said something that I think I'm going to go with... If we make it ITM in Friday's tourney we might nut up and play the Bellagio normal Saturday $1K tourney. We've got tons of options and it's all a freeroll baby!!

Not much to report online. Trying to focus on 45man's with a sprinkle of 18man's too and trying to play very little in the way of MTT's right now. Hopefully I can report here soon on a great upswing on Sharkscope.

HA!!!

Yesterday started off great. I don't know how it even caught my eye, but I reg'd for the $3k guarantee HA (Hold Em, Omaha Hi) Pot Limit MTT. 1st place was $900. My roommate took half my action, otherwise I probably wouldn't have played. He's a bit better at Omaha than myself and I was really impressed with his explanations of starting hands. For a guy not affiliated w/ any training sites, he's not bad.

I was in the $20K and $25K last night too, with the $25K going well for a while and then just not getting the right cards mixed w/ a little Lady Luck. But the $20K saw me get real deep, and eventually going out 17th. A key hand at the end was K7s and I called a button raise from the SB. The flop came KdTdXx, then another diamond on the turn and at this point I'm thinking he's on something like AJo, AQo w/ one of the cards being a diamond. I was really thinking there must be a draw out there, but I was 65% sure my K was good there. He's making fairly large raises compared to the pot, but I really took that for a scared nut draw. On the river I get 4 to 1 odds to call and so I did, only to see KxQd. At least I didn't do my normal push and pray, and I know I wasn't in control of the hand... But at the same time, I was switching up my play a little and I still had some chips to play with so at least I had that going for me. I truly felt good about playing that hand different from how I normally would.

After that I found myself in a hand w/ AQs. I open-raised from the button w/ the CL in the SB and the shortie in the BB. I wanted to get through the big stack and was willing to call the BB's AIPF. Everything worked to perfection until he tables KK. I felt okay though w/ my 3 outs, because we all know I'm the Mayor of Suckout City... Two diamonds flop without any help to me, and then the beautiful Ace of diamonds hits the turn. He's holding the King of diamonds so I need to just dodge the river............ Ten of diamonds. Son of a bitch! =P I'm then left in the SB w/ 2M and I get the button limping and I see all that money in the pot and push with the Doyle fuckall (T2s). GG me, 17th for $84.

I didn't get on a Skype call last night either. I didn't even log into Skype until I was 19/25 in the $20K. I got some serious railage to where someone at the table commented on all my friends. Then another guy said I was "a big deal". I had to laugh... The thought of lil' ol' me being a big deal is a hoot. Sure I'm a Leo and I think I'm King and whatnot, I still feel I'm humble and I realize I can't get better if I have an inflated ego. Don't get me wrong, I have an ego... But it propels me to greater things, and that type of ego is healthy and needed for success.

It's funny cuz I really didn't follow my SNG-only plan, but maybe I'll get back on it. Maybe I'll get into some MTT's on FTP, and it's usually a daily thing to get into the $20K and $25K on Stars. Maybe I'll forgo the $25K since the buy-in is a bit bigger. We'll see... Have a good day at the tables!

Moody Blues...

I'm bi-polar. w00t w00t

I'm okay with my bankroll slipping. I know I'm just in a funk. I realize there are external things going on in my life that are making it hard to concentrate when I'm playing. Stress isn't supposed to be good for those who are bi-polar. I always thought I handled stress well. I look at these challenges as opportunities to make myself stronger. Am I fooling myself into thinking this way?

To be honest, my play has been horrible lately. I'm stuck in some 'I don't care' mentality. I haven't been playing that much, not like I used to. I've decided to just play SNG's for now, and only play $10 MTT's and lower. I know I can win back my losses, so it's not like my mind is stuck with negativity.

I think I've been playing too many tables. I might try cutting down to help with the variance issue. I've been calling with some pretty crappy cards too. I know what plays I "SHOULD" be doing, but seem to keep making dumb plays. Welp, hopefully I can get some things worked out in these SNG's.

25th in Arizona, P5's Sliding Chart

I didn't get this up in my goal list, but it was something that I put as a goal before I went to Vegas for the WSOP. Even though I'm not sure if I'll be going for any events, I still am real excited to have hit another goal.

I feel goals are an important part of success. We all have big goals... But how many of us put small, easily attainable, goals in front of us? I find that these small sweet victories keep me in a positive mood and it seems easier to inch forward to those bigger goals.

I remember when I first put this goal in my mind, I was 77th in Arizona's Sliding Chart. 52 spots later, and only w/in a few months, I can now go ahead and make a goal of Top 15 before the end of the year. It's sure going to be hard to attain, but anything is possible when you have something to reach for. And if I fall short, is there a chance I'll be Top 20? And is that real all that bad, again coming from 77th at the beginning of the year?

A few extra goals I'd like to hit before the end of the year:

1.) Have a $10K online bankroll.
2.) Have a $5K live bankroll. (seperate from online)
3.) Get 20 hours of coaching lessons.
4.) Submit 3 articles to Pocket 5's for a chance at publication.
5.) Start up a t-shirt business with my friends.

The t-shirt business is just for fun, and mainly so we can get cheap t-shirts. We have some funny ideas and Dave Diesel just bought a machine for $10k... so we have a manufacturer for the shirts. 1st shirt, my Welcome To Suckout City image, was at the home game last night, and with it just being a test print we still can see the potential in this. We've got some fun ideas, so I hope we can get that going if nothing more than just for beer $$$ for the home games.

I plan on doing serious videos tonight and tomorrow, with just a sprinkle of games to play tomorrow. Have a great weekend, and much success. Think positive, and SHOVE THOSE MOTHERFUCKERS!!

FTOPS Event #1

So I tried. Every one of my "online" poker buddies agreed it was retarded, but hey... It's only money, right? I tried getting people to buy some of my action to lessen the blow, need I mention I got no takers?

I was all gamble... I treated it like the Sunday $100k, and w/ 3k starting stack and 12min blinds it wasn't much different TBH. Chipped up early to 3600 or so, then got retarded w/ 55 vs AA on a 3flush flop and yeah I had a club. I mean seriously, he "might" not have had a friggin club, right? But he had a club and I was drawing to my 2 outs and we didn't get there. That put me at 800 quick, and then I dipped down to 200 before making a seriously sick comeback. Had it up to near 5k I think, when I got in with God only knows what. After the flop, the pot was a juicy 2300 so I decided to take my shot since I was at a new table and bet out 2k. He pushed and I had to fold. Then just went downhill from there.

What have I learned?

1.) I like to gamble... Probably too much.
2.) I have a BR management issue.
3.) I'm aggressive, no matter the limit.
4.) I'm not afraid to fail.
5.) I really, really to gamble. =P

I think if I ever "need" to take another shot, it should be something like a $55 entry tourney. It's just stupid to think I can play at that level, with so many great players in the field. In a way I DID get some confidence built though. Numbers 3 and 4 are great traits to have, if put to proper use.

I'm still not fully sold on my BR problem. I mean, I work for a great company with killer pay. I've read the PokerFox articles about BR mgmt, and I truly believe in the system. Even "The Richest Man in Babylon", the current book about reading (highly recommend reading), talks about not investing too much in one thing. But in reality, I should probably be playing with a "semi-pro" bankroll. I say that because, as PokerFox put it, I "could" redeposit but it would hurt a little. I come from $100-300 BR grinding to now where I have a $3k bankroll. It surely wouldn't devastate me, but it'd definitely be a set back in the level of games I could play going forward. Truthfully, unless UBER luck prevails, I'll never get to $10K+ w/out adhering to proper BR mgmt rules.

I go forward with the conviction to stay w/in my bankroll from here on out. Anyone want to take the over/under at 3 weeks before I go astray? I'm looking to do a solid month before I take a $55 shot!! That's my goal, and I really enjoy HITTING goals.

Where determination is...

... A way can be found.

- This is an excerpt from "The Richest Man in Babylon" by George S. Clason.

I've felt this way my entire life. I've always felt that we can speak anything into fruition. I know that speaks more to positive energies and whatnot, but in reality I think determination is when our minds have been made up to one way or the other. We can talk ourselves into good and bad situations.

Think about you, or more likely your poker friends. Think of the ones who constantly talk about bad beats and how luck is never on their side. Now think of your friends that are full of energy and have a zest for life. IMO, both sets of people face close to the same obstacles/hurdles in life. It's your outlook and the way you react to the situation that defines the outcome. Funny thing there... OUTLOOK = OUTCOME. Sure, sometimes this is a false statement but one instance in life is obviously too small of a sample size, right?

So poker players... where is your concentration? Seriously, dig deep. Are you constantly thinking about badbeats? Because all you are doing is validating your thoughts each time that happens. And why do you continue to play? Would it be fair to say you play to prove yourself WRONG? I think not! Deep down, we all want to be right, right? So my position is that those that constantly think about bad beats are simply continuing to play so they can CONTINUE TO GET BAD BEATS so they CAN PROVE THEMSELVES CORRECT. Sounds foolish, but isn't constantly thinking of bad beats foolish? What do you gain? I feel more harm is done than good. Where determination (wanting to prove that bad beats happen to oneself more than the next player) is, a way can be found. Guess what? You're proving your way. The way HAS BEEN FOUND.

Now let's look at it in my eyes, or the eyes of any positive thinking person. First off, if you know me you'd be hard pressed to find me in a negative mood. Sure, I get tilted and mad and whatnot, but I feel I handle the bad beats with clear positivity. Now, that COULD be because I take more risks on the aggressive side and thus get more suckouts and bad beats to work for me. That being said, my positive outlook is due to my DETERMINATION TO WIN. My DETERMINATION to get BETTER AT POKER. I realize things will pop up along the way, but it's my DETERMINATION that propels me. Therefore, "a way can be found".

I wish life was just that easy. I wish that everyone could just turn it around by shifting their paradigm. Well, actually anyone CAN shift their paradigm... Sometimes it justs takes a reference for said need that will help facilitate this. I wish that everyone that comes across this blog will take the time to evaluate their poker "mindset" and think of shifting their paradigm. I truly believe that where your mind is is where you will soon find yourself, literally.

"Where determination is, a way can be found".

1st ever ROYAL FLUSH

And it was in today's Sunday $100k on PokerStars!! Ended up cashing 1st level.
-Kyle

4th in today's $3r on PokerStars

If 2's didn't call me 4 handed, I'd have hit my goal of making the Top 3 of a MTT that had a good payday and field. I'll have the HH link up soon. Here's the screenshot:

Thanks for all my Skype Crew and PXF affiliates for the railage!!!

Just before I head off to Vegas

So I'm about 2 hours away from leaving for Vegas. I'll get there before noon, and play in the Caesar's event to start my day ($65). Then we'll check into The Venetian and I'll be playing the 6pm Deep Stack Extravaganza ($345). We'll play Saturday by ear depending how these first 2 tourneys go.

I got home to grind a few bucks out to take with me (can't have enough, right?). I played in a few SNGs and not 1 score. Played in the $20k and went out uneventfully. But then the $25k came around and I worked my way into bubbling the FT. Yup, 10th out of 1463. Almost... Oh well, I still got a few hundred extra to roll to Vegas with and I got a bit more training in. Skype crew delivered another great night of insights. Thanks fellas!!! Here's my screenshot of the leaderboard when I finished:

So pray for me! I'll need all the help I can get. This is all to get exposure to Vegas and a feeling for a few live tournaments. Have a good weekend at the tables!

I feel great about my weekend

Yesterday was a great day for me. I started off focused, and got in a few tourneys and waited until I got somewhat deep before I got on Skype. I finally made that bigger MTT Final Table that I've been hunting for. It came in yesterday's Full Tilt $16K guarantee. I finished 8th. Now the goal will obviously be to make Top 3 and eventually TID, if not at the same time.

So, that got the juices flowin' and I found myself getting deep in the Sunday $100K guarantee on PokerStars. I eventually went out 45th, and also won the Skype Crew LAST LONGER bet too. Total profit for the SHG was around $370. This is a HUGE finish for me though. I outlasted 22 THOUSAND people, in the most lottery induced luckament, with a horrible structure to boot. I had The Wa®den at my right for a lil bit. He's a real nice guy and also #2 in Arizona on P5's... WWW.ZONACREW.NET

Now that I've accomplished my "Top 100 in the SHG" goal, I'm going to up it to now "Making the Final Table of the Sunday $100K". I've heard of many other players that played a specific event, they got deep but didn't win, and they used that as inspiration to go after it until they TID. That's how I feel about this tournament now. Since I'm not a big roll grinder, I can't play much over the $10-20 entry range. This tournament is the BIG DADDY of them all... The Mini Million, as it's affectionately been nicknamed. I WILL TAKE IT DOWN!!!

I want to again thank my friends on Skype... The Improved Skype Crew is the best!!! We all pull for each other, and damn if they didn't make me feel like I was God while playing. Thanks again guys for the continued support. I wouldn't be the player I am without you guys coaching and inspiring me along the way. I can't wait to $135K this bitch!!!

Have a good week... I'm probably going to take a few days off, as yesterday's 2 deep finishes completely drained me. Xbox 360, here I come!!!

A lot going on in my head

Hey world!! First off, my playlist... you likey? I made more at the bottom too.

Sold a DJ amp yesterday, so I got more flow. When my buddy came over I was in the middle of a 4 table set of $16/18's. He hasn't seen me in a while and when he showed up I was 5 handed on last 2. 1st in both, he marveled at my skills! =P +$180

Now my Sharkscope for Stars shows $944 profit. Still haven't worked on FTP SNGs, but there's a good reason for that. My $$$ is stuck on FTP 'til end of May. When I need to pull out cash I have to rely on my Stars account... So that's why I'm focusing on PS SNGs right now.

Next Friday, Aprill 11th, I'm taking the day off work to head to Vegas for the Venetian Deep Stack. Leave around the crack of dawn, make the 8hr drive (with 2 hr dampening time due to Hoover Dam road construction) and hopefully check into Venetian's Palazzo room by 1pm-ish. Registering starts at 4pm and I want to get a nap and massage (from the wife, a Licenses Massage Therapist... Life is goot!!!) before I go down for registration. Quick dinner and then it's on!!

Plans are currently for 1 night, but if I can come up with some dough this weekend then we'll stay for Saturday night's event as well. I'll need to make about $600 to cover the room and fee, so GL me!!

My goal is to go up again April 25th for the last day of The Venetian Deep Stack, and stay for the Caesar's WSOP Circuit Event #9 on Saturday, April 25th @ 12noon. $500 + 50... ahhh, dare to dream. The trip expenses on this will be around $1500, so this will be on the back burner barring any decent cash from the 1st trip, or a sudden increase in BR from online grindage.

$16/18's, here I come!!! Good luck this weekend everyone. (as if anyone reads this)

Getting deeper in MTTs

If I EVEN have any readers out there: I apologize for the lack of updates, but I see this being a common theme amongst bloggers... At least poker bloggers. Poker swings are just so crazy, when I'm down I feel like it's useless to talk about nonsense. Even when I'm up, sometimes I'm more into regging for more events and trying to ride the wave. In the past, after victory, I'd give myself some time to reflect on my accomplishments.

Jaded much?

Well, TBH, I might just be. I've accomplished the "easy" goals, and now just need to climb the steep hill. My only other goals are results based and I can't really sweat those. They'll come in due time as long as I just keep plugging away. I'm laser focused on making the WSOP this year. I'm going for Event #2, Day 1a.

I'm not planning on playing much cash, but it'll be hard not to hit up the Bellagio at least once to see what it's like playing there. I don't plan on playing any other tourneys when I'm there. This trip will be strictly for Event #2. After this event I'll come back to Tucson and make a game plan from there. There are plenty of tourney series going on this summer, so I don't have to go all out at the WSOP.

This is over Memorial WEEEEkend, and our friends are going to be at Lake Mead with their boat. I've been there with them before, and it's nothing but fun in the sun. Since I've never played in a major live event, let alone anything in Las Vegas w/ NLHE, I can only hope to plan in a way that I feel I can maximize my play.

On Sunday I played great in the $100k and the nightly $20k. I finished 1455/22500 (close to my goal of Top 100...but beating out 20k donkeys is still good). In the nightly $20k I got down to 22nd. Man, I'm getting close to that illustrious Final Table. I won another small $3 MTT on FTP Friday when I got home, so that's like 4 or 5 micros on FTP this far. Saturday night I got down to 13th in a $24+2 nightly MTT on FTP, and this was something like the 3rd or 4th time, in the last month, that I've gotten that close on FTP in the $24 MTTs. Stay tuned... As I feel a big one coming on the horizon.

Here are a few hands to enjoy. A suckout from each perspective. The first is a major, MAJOR suckout that got me deep Sunday in the $20k GTD. And the second one I explain below, from last night's $20k GTD (I was expecting yet another deep run w/ those chips)

SOOTN (Sunday):
Look at the text after I win "Welcome to Suckout City"... LOLZ

http://www.pokerhand.org/?2358592

The problem with this hand isn't the AQ having the better kicker. Due to him having only 40 chips, I was more concerned w/ building a bigger side pot to take down. That river is the ONE OUTER!!!

http://www.pokerhand.org/?2365611

Welp, this blog ended up being a bit meaningless but it at least outlines my plans and in a sense... A blog is just a journal that you share!! Happy pokah!!

Weekend update got held up

Where to begin? Let's start of with the easy stuff... PokerStars, until last night, has been treating me real bad. My PS BR got down to the nitty gritty, but I'm finding that by staying away from MTTs on Stars and going down from 45's to 18's has helped get me back on track. As you can see by my Sharkscope, I'm working on my upward recovery.

It's amazing the difference a poker site can make. As I struggle on Stars, I'm building a nice lil' bankroll on FTP. It seems like every day I'm getting deep in MTTs and starting to bring in some decent cashes. Saturday I got pretty deep in a $24+2 finishing 82/1118. I "think" this was a KO event, and if I AM correct in my memory I had around 8 KO's so I felt pretty good with my play. I'm starting to notice my biggest area of concern is now mid-to-late game, nearing the bubble and going all the way to the Final Table. I've been able to create nice stacks early, but then something happens and I start loosening up my game... So I'm really working hard on that, and I feel I'm showing improvement day by day.

Continuing on with my FTP weekend, on Sunday I took the CL of a $5 MTT with about 50 left and ran it into the FT, never looking back. The key hand that I feel not only chipped me up, but also gave me confidence that my game was on, came when I was in the BB and the SB w/ about 9-11BBs raises to half his stack. I just remember thinking it was odd, like why not limp or minraise if you had a monster?... Or shove if you don't want the call? So I'm sitting with something like 20-25BBs and decide to shove him w/ my J7. He takes maybe 5 seconds and calls w/ 76o. OMG... He starts berating me with talk like, "WTF Donkey!!! You can't call there! What a bad play." He obviously doesn't get there and I knock him out. He decides to stick around and call me the worst of names, which resulted in OTHER PLAYERS at the table emailing support about this guy. What was great about this was I had the chance to explain myself, which obv. I feel I did a great job, and I feel that might have impacted how the others at the table played against me. His continued shit talking actually kept me motivated to show him up. He left the FT w/ about 5 left saying he had to go somewhere, but in the end he ACTUALLY gave me props and plans to find me down the road. "It's not over, we'll meet again!" as he put it! GG "robt6072" Note to future haters: Thanks for looking so dumb so that I can look so smart!

Moving on to Monday night, I played in a $10 MTT on FTP and 13/302. I really, REALLY, like the smaller fields on FTP!!! I made a bonehead push, but I have to take the good with the bad... I basically got caught stealing and didn't suckout... No biggie, as I get more suckouts than losses when I get in bad so I can't mind a loss here and there. So I continued to play on FTP on Tuesday, and early into the night I got 3rd in a $10/90man KO SNG that JackBileDuct, Postbanken and I jumped into. I also reg'd for the $32K guarantee that night and was getting some SERIOUS chips while getting into pots ahead. At one point I was 6th w/ 61 to go. When it got down to 16 people, I started feeling the cold deck and the blinds were getting big. I found myself w/ 9BBs and it was folded to me in the SB, I had 36s and decided to try to push into a 15BB stack in the BB. He calls w/ KK and I hit the 3 on the flop but nothing else to help out. GG me, out 15th. Sooo close to that big score, but that night I upticked close to $300 so I can't feel bad about that.

To quickly recap yesterday, I was going out to dinner w/ my wife to eat All You Can Eat Ribs at a spot we've never tried. DAMN GOOD RIBS, BTW. Before leaving I started up 2 $16/18man turbos on Stars, only to find I'm playing w/ a great PXFer "manhat10ite". I haven't seen him in a while and it was cool to chat a bit. We donked out of the first one, but the second one we ended up w/ me taking 1st and him 3rd. The guy that got 2nd made a comment like "you guys know each other?...hmmm you sure didn't play hands against each other". I just hate being accused, so I had to defend myself and take him out in the process. I don't like explaining my ties w/ PXF while at the table, as it puts a target on me... But I didn't mind it there. When I came back I played 2 more and got 2nd in both. Nice lil' $200 uptick on Stars yesterday!!!

Wow... I had a lot to say, I hope I covered it quickly and didn't leave out much. This weekend is gonna be wild with it being my wife's 40th b-day on Easter. Saturday night is the big party and she actually said I could invite some buddies and play cards w/ whoever wants in (cough cough...suckers!!!) Her aunt, drama queen/party animal, is coming in today and tonight "they" have a night of Rock Band planned. Her boyfriend loves to gamble so I have a feeling he's gonna be watching me tonight... So hopefully I can show and prove!!! Have a great weekend playing poker, I wish you all the success!!!

How to play a read and chip up early

So I'm no expert, but I feel I JUST made an awesome play. There's two hands here and the second was the "finisher". In the first hand, the villain was on the button and raised to 10bb's after having 3 limpers in front of him. I didn't think it was too believable, and I put him on AQo or a smallish PP. Anything strong and I feel he's not raising that high because he wants someone to play in the pot. I decided to flat (which looks strong) and try to outplay him post flop. His 240 bet was the same size as his preflop bet, so I really wasn't sold on any strong hand and decided my read was right. I shove, he folds and I showed my hand to send a message and hopefully set up a stronger play later on.

I find myself in the second hand with the same villain, who pushes AIPF after I 3x RR'd. So now I'm thinking he must be irked from the play before and trying to push me off the hand. I honestly put him on any weak hand. LMAO

Without further delay, he's the two hands:

I push the 10xbb button raise.

I 3xRR and get pushed by same villain.

I'll come back later and do a new blog post recapping my weekend.

Nice results in cash games tonight

Only poker I played was 2 $.25/.50 tables. I probably invested $130 after making a real loose call on one table and had to reload half a buy in quickly. A buck or two reload here and there and I eventually picked up a little steam and was sitting around $60-70 at each table. Then I doubled with that top hand and soon after came the other hand. Ended up only ahead around $40 for the night. I made a bad move A9 vs QQ on a Jx9 flop. Oh well, the guy I was playing against had a VPIP of 53 over 144 hands. And last hand I had $20 left and got 88 AIPF vs same guy w/ 99 and he held.

$174 scoop @ .25/.50

$117 scoop @ .25/.50

Here's my Suckout City Collection Volume 1 video (hand 4 got mixed up in there)

Alright, check y'all later on.

Best weekend of poker yet!!

I started off the weekend with a late night $5/360max MTT that went through midnight. I didn't do much on Saturday that I can recall. I musta ate my Wheaties on Sunday though, cuz when the day was through I had racked up 3 final tables on FTP. I'm happy for my success but I really wish I could achieve more success on PokerStars. I know I need to grind out FTP and get my deposit bonus taken care of, as well as rake up rakeback... But PokerStars is my main account, it's the account that doesn't have a 90 day hold while I grind my deposit bonus out, it's the account I can take money out of if I need it... UGH! (well, maybe that's a good thing) BTW, I'm slowly moving up the sortable rankings on P5's. I've moved from 77th to 64th in the state of Arizona!!! Weeeee! My overall goal is to be w/in the Top 20 before going to the WSOP and I know that'll take some serious winning.

Right after the $5/360 win I pulled money out for my wife's birthday and now, after that and the monitor, I SWEAR I'M DONE PULLING MONEY OUT OF POKERSTARS!!!! It's crazy that my overall BR (over both sites) has more than doubled since my initial deposit, even after withdrawing so that feels great. When you add up my withdraws from PokerStars it comes out to over $800. So everything I have online right now is PURE PROFIT!!! That feels good, so I should use that to keep my confidence high. Since I can't take money out of FTP until the end of May, it's basically my "savings" account for the WSOP this year. I sure did want to have $$ set aside sooner than that so I could call up The Rio and book my room. Needless to say that'll be done near the last minute so I sure HOPE they have rooms. Thinking of this, I might just borrow a relatives CC to put the deposit on and pay them back at the end of May. I really don't know when I want to go, so there's no real rush. I'd like to get some plans together with friends from PXF and Skype so I can meet some of them while I'm there.

I still feel like I have a poker hangover from the weekend, so I might take tonight off. I've thought about watching a full night of PXF videos, and get some of those knocked out, or read more of Harrington on Hold Em Vol. 2... In a way, I feel kinda stupid for continuing to play w/out getting HoH Vol. 1 & 2 read and RE-READ first! Kids... We all need to set priorities in life... The cart cannot be in front of the horse!! I seem to only do good over the weekends, so maybe at least this week taking some time off to "catch up" wouldn't be such a bad idea.

I've got quite the collection of Suckout City "Suckout Of The Night" hand histories set up, so I'm definitely going to get those compiled for a quick PXF Hand replayer video. That should be amusing, and possibly a way to introduce my blog to the site. I've really kept a low profile on the blog, only letting my Skype buddies know it's even out there. I put out a feeler to Adam Junglen about him linking me on his blog, but I didn't even get a reply so I doubt it. I'm sure he's like most and only will link up blogs that he reads. I'll still keep him linked simply because he's not constantly writing about negative things and I'm excited to see where his young talent takes him. The more I think about it, while writing this blog, the more I feel I need to take the week off and prepare for a great weekend, so I'm not sure I'll have anything worthy to blog about. I'll gather up those Suckout City HH's and link the Hand Replayer video up when I get that done.

Last minute update: Team STFU whooped up on the old guys... Not sure the overall point totals, but I know they only had one cash and tcarnage out-pointed whoever that was that day, so we coasted in quite quickly. I still feel they could have make-up days since they missed a lot of days between them, but I've already been paid from JackBileDuct, who played his 5 days and just wanted to get whoever paid off and taken care of, so overall I made a little over $20 with the contest win and my one cashing.

Have a great next couple of days playing pokah!!! And enjoy the peace and quiet without me... "Maybe" you'll overcome the loud ringing in your ear after last night's screaming when my 3 hit the river to snap Aces while holding pocket 3's.

Actually had a good run in the $20K

I mean, no FT... But w/in Top 100 isn't bad at all. Both Tcarnage (Konrad) and myself cashed last night propelling our team further into the win column, this coming after Postbanken (Fritzov) started the contest right getting 59th and scoring 136.21 points. Konrad's finish last night scored us another 79.09 and I wrapped up the night going out 90th for 115.22 points. This gives our team a 330.52 to ZERO lead. Some of the guys on their team have to work at night and such and will need a few extra days to make up for their losses, and that's perfectly fair IMO.

I'm a man that admits when he makes a mistake. I thought when the teams started that I didn't know who Tcarnage was. Now knowing it's Konrad, Lightus' friend and someone I've talked to on Skype a few times I feel fine. TBH, I was just being a butt!! Maybe I wouldn't be so open about this if we weren't so far ahead in the lead! :P Hey, gotta be honest... It's just the kinda guy I am.

So getting back to last night. I was playing so perfect, and I really attribute that to watching Annette_15's Sunday $100K win Hand History. I'd say around 40k-ish I got AA and got it AIPF v ersus QQ and held putting me w/in the top 3. With a few blind steals I was CL with about 300 to go and ITM being around 423 peeps. I was playing my table great, and finding the proper folks to get hands in on. For the first time ever someone made a comment "He's too tough" or something like that. As if to imply that I'm impossible to play against. It really was great because after that I'd RR this guy's limp or minraise and everytime I'd get a fold from him. A guy to his right was doing more minraising than I've ever seen. The Skype Crew then decided he was our next target. With him being the open minraiser and it coming to me I jammed him AI and it folds through the blinds and he calls for all his chips w/ AJo. I had 99 and it doesn't hold and I get my stack cut in half. Boy he sure thought he was the cat's meow, but after looking him up he was -40% ROI in ONLY 23 games. WP nube! Now I'm down big versus the blinds and I end up w/ 1.5BB and have to fold until I get into the Big Blind w/ 44. There was only me and this one person in the pot and he had 2 over cards if I remember right. Well, he caught and 44 doesn't hold up... I think it was a river too. :( It was still a great game, and I played GREAT poker IMO. I got beat by races when my "made" hand didn't hold. That's actually not too bad and in the end it's all about getting points for this contest. Go Team STFU!!!

So you ready for the Suckout City Suckout Of The Night? Well these two come from SNGs I played before the $20K. Unfortunately I had another bad set of $6/45's w/out a cash, but dems da breaks. I got 1st in a $16/9man (I know... it's outside my BR, consider it a tilt game where I was trying to cash up...got lucky, wont do it again) and that's where the 2nd HH comes from. Here there are:

$6/45 man: My 35o > AQo
(I find that there's times where a re-pop like this can lead to him folding, and with me being SS I'm looking for good spots to steal if I still have fold equity. As long as he doesn't have a PP I've got live cards and not much worse than a 2-1 dog, right?)

$16/9 man: My A5o > Q5o (he flopped 2pr)
(Pretty sick push IMO but the odds say he didn't hit that flop if I did. And maybe, just MAYBE, I could use the Queen as my scare card)

We'll be getting back in the $20K, so let's hope for some more points. Lightus didn't make it on last night. I hope he's alright and I'm sure to see him playing in it tonight. Gooooo Team STFU!!!

I'll be pissing away $85 this week

The Skype Crew put together a Monday thru Friday contest where we have teams of 4 go up against each other for TLB points in the nightly $10+1 $20K guarantee. It's gonna be a $30/person fee to the contest + $10+1 x 5 days. What seemed like an obvious choice of teams somehow turned into Young vs. Old (soo cliche IMO). It really isn't THAT BIG OF A DEAL, it's more that it was put together quick and w/out any team captain picking or anything. I hate being "categorized" and would rather be picked for my skill... Or lack there of! LMAO So last night I go out w/ KK vs 99 vs AJs (not sure why homeboy would call all that action in front of him w/ AJs... but he's not the one that killed me anyways!) I'm trying to find the HH and put it up for ya. Stay tuned, I'll come back and update the blog.

I had originally withdrawn from going out to eat for Monday night $.25 wings at Grumpy's Grill with my wife and son, but after the quick departure in the $20K and another quick 4 table set of $6/45's that I speedily busted out of, I quickly called my wife and joined them for a great feast. Not since living in Florida have I enjoyed such a plethora of wings at such a great price. 20 wings... 5 bucks? GTFOH!!!!

Weekend starts off well

I finally got back on the $6/45 win wagon. It was only one, and I did cash in another but it's gonna take time I'm sure. I've actually been having "some" success on FTP... But only in MTTs, my SNG record looks like shit since I scored big in that $69/45 waaay back when. I got in the Early Double B and took 4th for $403.

My buddy, Jakuta, did a filtered search on Sharkscope and I come up a shark in the "180 man SNG" category. Here's the a picture:

My 45 man stats are starting to plummet though. I'm working to iron that out, and I know I have what it takes so I'm not worried. I'm playing the Sunday Hundred Grand today, and I want to really concentrate on playing my best poker in that. I'd love to place in the top 100 and hit that goal soon. Good luck to all today, and maybe I can give an update.

Hater of the day award goes to this guy in the Sun. $100K:

crowsnest: I THINK THIS KYLE GUT IS RE TARDED
Kyle Million: probably
Dealer: Game #15691151930: stephan66 wins pot (100)
crowsnest: WHY U SO F UCKIN SLOW
Kyle Million: bangin ur mom takes time?

Obviously after that witty comeback he STFU for the rest of the time I was at his table. Sheesh, you can really point out the "1-tablers" by comments like that. Why am I so slow? Oh, maybe because I'm increasing my EV by playing more tables you dumbtard!!! Some peoples children... I'm telling you!

UPDATE:

So, I went out in the 14k-ish area of players left. Wow, that sucked! Again, another weekend spent playing MTTs. Sure, I got 4th Saturday in the Early Double B on FTP (and it's finishes like that that make me wanna come back for more) but I'm really gonna try to stay away from them. It's like a fat kid staying away from sweets... Oh wait, I AM a fat kid!!

No-man's land... And w/out traction

Right now I feel like I'm in Las Cruces, NM, basically in the middle of nowhere... Y'know? No-man's land, without a car. Naw, maybe it's more like quicksand. Well, I guess it's to be expected since I "WAS" on fire the last week. I need to get back to the basics and find out what it was that was making me successful. A few good things to note:

- I'm done withdrawing my BR since I'm now set up just perfect.
- I don't owe anyone $$. In fact I have a little $20 loan out to a buddy.
- I DID accomplish most of the quick goals I set forth so that feels good.
- My bankroll is still higher than what I deposited, even after withdrawing.

My buddy "doylesays" just chopped a $10K gtd at Desert Diamond Casino for $1900. Congrats goes out to him. It looks like him and another home game buddy are getting sponsored for the Bellagio WPT coming up. This other buddy was playing up in Vegas, as he does regularly (can you say BALLAH?), and ran into an older gentleman that was handing out money like candy and offered to stake him for $100k with the idea he'd spread it amongst a few friends. I know it sounds fishy, but this buddy already makes great cheese and there's no reason for him to embellish, unlike some other buddies we have in our home game (cough, cough.. Miknasty78) DON'T WORRY, I'm not on the list... I "might" have something of an online game but I'm still light years away from being good enough to play in a $10k-$25k event. But obviously "doylesays" is good live, he's got many cashes under his belt and I'd even be willing to stake the guy here and there because he is just that good (when he puts his mind to it and really wants it). I'm still new to the home game crew, so I don't feel bad about not getting a shot. I'd actually feel stressed playing such a big event with someone else's money. Sure, I plan on playing an event or 2 at this year's WSOP, but it's MY MONEY I'll be playing with.

Due to an overall poor showing in the $12/45's I'm having to drop back down to the $6/45's. Not only is my Stars BR a little too low to fully play them, but I just don't have the confidence. My mind has been on other things like getting my desk set up and also getting 2 of my buddies set up in 45's. Not that they "needed" it, but there were some 45man nuances that we went over. I must have forgotten everything I told them, cuz since then I'm on a downward spiral. Maybe my confidence level is a bit too high. Well trust me, I've been humbled yet again by pokah.

Back to the game plan of $6/45's until my Stars roll is back up over $600. I know it seems shy to wait until I'm at 100 buy-ins before I move up, but I honestly think I need to grasp some keep points and tweak my game accordingly before I move up. No use just going through my bankroll while learning. Good luck to everyone in the next few days. I hope to have something to write about tomorrow, but if not I'll make sure to have a weekend update. I also need to go back and fill in the Suckout City Suckout Of The Night for each prior blog.

Until then, much success to Improved Skype Crew, and Zonacrew!

Good weekends deserve a SHIPPED MONITOR baby!!!

That's right. I hit my goal to get my BR up to $1600. I wisely transferred the money to epassporte and bought my 2nd 24" Westinghouse from www.newegg.com. I found out I can't use my epassporte card, so I'm having to take the money out and then deposit... Creating an extra day of waiting.

After withdrawing the money, I went on a MTT tear. And not in a good way either. My SNG stats actually are looking good for 45man and 180man SNGs. Before Friday's home game I had "doylesays" come over early and play some 45man's. He didn't fair too well, but I won around $120. Funny to mention that, because the first hand of the cash game my prior winning was the factor I used in deciding to play doylesays for All In w/ Q7 vs T6 on a QxT flop. I didn't pressure enough and he turned 2pr. GG $100. Mark the Shark from PXF showed up. That was cool to meet him and talk hands and such after the game. Neither of us had good fortune in the tourney and he won a few bucks in the cash game.

After the home game, I got back online and cranked up some 45's. Mark convinced me that at my BR I could handle the $12 levels, so I tried a few 45's and 180's. I scored 2nd in a $12/180 for $396, and that's when I pulled the money out for the monitor. (I have a pending deposit that won't let me take out anything below that limit...btw, it clears tomorrow...weeee) But after that I got into MTT mode and got away from the game plan. Day by day, I'm realizing that the 45 and 180 SNGs are the way to go. But eventually I DO want to get to the MTT level. Building the BR is the key right now though. I gotta build the foundation. So below is my Sharkscope and that upswing all started w/ $6/45's (about 2/3 weeks ago?) so that, and a few $12's have gotten me up basically $1100 from when I was low on the curve.

Here's my Sharkscope page:

And here's the Suckout Of The Night:

Moved some over to epassporte tonight

I started off playing 15 $6/45's. The first 8 or I just didn't pick up any traction and then things just clicked when I got down playing 7 tables, after saying "I'm stopping at 15 to see where I'm at". I just went on a FT tear and got 2nd, 1st, 4th, 1st and 3rd for a profit of $196. I did another 4 while waiting for my wife to get home and came ITM 1/7 but got too jiggy w/ a limped Q7 into QJ and then the flop was Q88 or something like that. I push thinking I'm good and bam, so that put me down in chips and I actually went out in 7th a few hands later for $12... Bringing my profit for the night to $182.

Threw some money over to epassporte thinking I'd be saving for the 2nd monitor until I realized the home game is tomorrow and I'll need money for that. Also, wouldn't you know it's that time of year that epassporte collects their "online credit card fee-$5" and their "VISA credit card fee-$35". GG me, WP epassporte!!

Keep on, keepin' on!

Another $60 uptick on the day. I'm thinking I need to play one full day at one site then switch off and JUST play on one site at a time, per day. PS's $6/45 is a turbo and FTP's $5/45 is not. They play completely different, and usually when I'm doing well in one, I'm not up to par in the other. So, we'll try switching off and see how that goes in the long run. Needless to say, it was FTP's night to suck but my last 45 I did end up taking 6th for $11.25, ship it son! Now PokerStars was my SPOT last night. I won 3 45's w/out any other cashes, while playing less than 20 games. I got my Sharkscope down to only -$11 profit, but I decided to play one more set of 4 tables on PS to try to get over the hump... All to no avail, so now I'm at -$37 which still isn't bad considering 2 weeks ago I was -$600 profit.

I didn't finalize my PokerTracker yet, but I'm getting very close. I'll be working with Chipolucho this weekend if I can't figure it out by then. I did find a great video made by www.StoxPoker.com, which is free to watch and is around 47min long. Also, Caddieup sent me a video on PokerHound that the creator made in Camtasia to show him using PH in a 45man (how convenient huh?). So those are the first two things I'm gonna do when I get home today. After that I hope I have the info needed to finalize PokerTracker, but I at least found the area where I can see my HH's w/in the software quickly... So that's something.

What I found really cool last night was I was actually "inspiring" people to give the 45's a shot. I'm talking about people that I feel are better than me, so that's a pretty humbling feeling. My buddy Lightus reg'd for 3 and with his final one up, he took that shit down which was great to see. He pretty much gave up on Stars, took his money out, and is now mainly on Cake playing ring games for the rakeback.

Is today Thursday? Why, yes... Yes it is! Tomorrow I'm hosting a home game, I always look forward to those. Not much else to talk about now, so I'll leave you with the HH of the day. Not a suckout, but a donkey play by the other guy for sure:

It's not always gonna go this well

Another night, and another profitable session. This time I got close to 25 games in, w/ 2 being the $8 Tier 1 18man's on FTP. I'm just gonna stay away from those for now. I could see how if that's all I did I'd get into a grove, but they really play different than the 45man's plus you have to win 45% over the long haul to make it profitable. And for what? The chance to play in the $24/45man? It's over my BR right now (well actually it's not too far off) and I want to progress to the $10's first.

With PokerStars being turbos and with soo many more grinders on their site, I'm getting in about 3 games to 1 compared to Full Tilt. My ROI is actually better on Full Tilt since I have time w/in the structure as well as when I turn my aggression on my opponent isn't rushed into calling because they still have time to wait for their better spot. I'm starting to wonder if I should register for the next level up in 45's on FTP so that I can actually have enough games running. Oh, BTW, I thought it'd be cool to show a picture of my desktop, while playing 8 tables, for those not too familiar w/ poker grinding. This actually isn't at hard as it might look. It actually keeps me more focused.

Today I probably will only get one session of tables going because I'll be starting later. I need to take today and get my PokerTracker finally set-up 100%. I need to get my Tourney Summaries auto-loaded thru email, so hopefully someone will be on Skype when I get home. I also need to create an account at www.PokerDominator.com to track of winnings and such. I think PokerTracker can do this, but I'll see what P/D has to offer... It's free, so it can't hurt. I also want to watch a PXF video series before I start playing but we'll see. If I don't get to watching videos, then I'm just going to set up time this weekend to knock out even more videos. (that's actually what I'll probably end up doing)

I started to create a Suckout City "Wall Of Shame" folder. In there I take each HH that I suckout real bad on, and eventually I'll put it in PXF HH analyzer... Should make for a sweet video. It wouldn't hurt to bring some humor to my blog, so each day I think I'll have a "Suckout of the Night" HH from the prior night. I don't have it here at work, so when I get home I'll update the blog. Let's just say this was one where I needed only runner runner Queens.... Your boy got there, NATCH!!!!

We don't walk it out, we drop top Porsche it out

I'm Blowin Purple Smoke I Cough It Out
Ball It Up And Ball It Out
Tap The Bottle Pour It Out.... Balllllllllllllllin!

Got 3rd for $496.80:

Amazing how some persistence can pay off. I started off 0-9 on Stars and 1-4 (2nd) on Full Tilt in the $6/45's and $5/45's respectively. I felt I needed to slow down and concentrate more, so what do I do? How about take my $75 token that I won the night before in a $14 Token Frenzy and play a $69+6/45man SNG? That one cranked up as I was approaching the FT of my last FTP 45man. With the focus on my other game, I still managed 2nd even when I got in w/ the best hand HU. I can honestly say I wouldn't have cashed as deep in the $69+6 w/out the help of the Skype Crew. Those guys really care about helping each others' game progress... Completely unselfish friends, and we JUST know each other on Skype. Technology FTW!!

You can imagine how excited I am to be sooo close to my goal, where I can cash out a little bit and get another 24" monitor. I just really need to stay focused so that I don't drop anything significant w/in the next few days. I think I might even start tonight off w/ a few $1/45's for reasons I explained in a prior thread. It's basically to get the brain going and letting loose some pent up aggression w/out having to go through my roll.

I still need to get PokerTracker set up to receive Tourney Summaries, but I also have to find someone willing to take time out to show me w/out disrupting their grind. I might take tomorrow or Thursday off to watch videos and go over some HH's. I definitely see why that's important. I feel like my BR is my little baby now, so I need to take care of it!

I was talking w/ Caddieup at the end of last night, and he thinks I should set my next goal to $2K BR on both PS and FTP. If you look at my year's goal, you'll see I need a $3K roll before WSOP time. I'm now thinking that I'll want to KEEP $2K on each site, AS WELL AS grind the $3K I want to withdraw from for the WSOP. So really I need a $7K total BR, or at least that's my goal. I'm putting it this high so if I come short I can still evaluate and come up with smaller figures to go with. Also, the $5K personal savings goal looks like it will be coming from my BR too, in the way of steady withdraws from online. I know I can just go for one event if needed since it would be my first real poker trip to Vegas but I'd also like to go for a week and stay at the Rio the entire time. So that'll obviously take a few jigga to handle JUST expenses. The sooner I get my roll up though, the sooner I can w/d and at least reserve my room at the Rio. Man I feel official, it's right around the corner.

Here's to another night of profitable grinding. Onward hooooooo!!!

Hell Hath Frozen Over

As M.I.M.S. would say, "This is why I'm hot!" (Click picture to enlarge):

That's right boys and girls, Kyle Million has turned his SNG game around and at this present moment I'm labeled on Sharkscope as "Hot". I've still got a -3% ROI overall and down -$97 profit total. The profit "should" be over the $0 mark tonight and probably +ROI by Wednesday.

On a quick MTT note, I've been ROCKIN' the $5 $5K gtd on Stars. This last week I finished ITM 3 times. 166th and 255th finishes this weekend. I still need to get to the FT of this. Yesterday I had a TOP 100 stack heading ITM and I got crippled and instead of throwing in the chips on the next hand I waited patiently and came back to get into the TOP 40 stacks and that's when the IMPLOSION began. I did it to myself. I got into a pot I didn't need to get into and I tried putting in a good size raise to steal the pot but got 3bet into a fold. From there I had nothing to work with and went out 255th.

What's working? $6/45 turbos on PokerStars. I've finally found my stride in those after a week of up and downs. I'm starting to shy away from micro MTT's as they mainly just take up my time and distract me from SNG grinding. Also, it takes 4hrs to get ITM and where ur making 4x your buy in, but even for a $5 MTT, it's just not worth the hassle right now. My Skype buddies, CaddieUp/Jakuta/Quaid745/JackBileDuct, have really instilled in me the value of just grinding SNGs to build the BR. And again I give credit to ryanb9 for showing me the way to MTT... First you must grind SNGs and get your ICM down and while doing so you build the BR.

I'm finally past the 18man or 45man question, with the majority of my time going to strictly 45mans now. I had a rough patch over the weekend, and did a few 18mans just to feel the end game again and boy it worked. So I'll save the 18mans for times when I hit a rough patch. Damn, it feels good having a plan. My play since starting in Oct. '06 has been to just get into this or that w/out much focus. It feels good to see the fruits of my labor, too bad I didn't start this sooner.

Goals for this week (maintainable):
- Finally get PokerTracker hooked up w/ POP3 email acct so I get tourney summaries
- Figure out how PokerTracker can record my wins/losses so I have a better idea where I'm at
- Get my "profit" on Sharkscope to show +$0, currently -$97 (by end of tonight)
- Get my ROI on Sharkscope to show +% (by the end of Wednesday)
- Find comfort w/ 4tables of Stars on one screen and 4 tables of FTP on another
- Get my Stars BR up to $1K to properly play in the nightly $20K
- Continue putting money aside so I can deposit on FTP for a bonus (just transferred $ to start)

Goals for this week (not out of the question, but will be fully dependent on above goals):
- Have $1K on Stars, $600 on FTP
- Buy 2nd 24" monitor, as I promise not to dip into BR while it's under $1600
- Top 50 finish in $5 $5K gtd this weekend and a Top 500 finish in the Sunday $100k

Fuxxin dog balls!!!!

This weekend sucked. Can I just give it back and get a refund? I'm going to HAVE to pull a ryanb9 and STRICTLY play SNG's until my roll gets high enough. Fuxx EVERY SINGLE MTT out there until then. I don't care how juicy I think it is, I need to quit playing. I'm an idiot, why can't I stop playing MTT's??? I know why... I want that stupid illustrious big score! (whoa... did he just say a big word? GFY!!) I'm starting to have a good feeling as to what I'd do w/ that $$ from the big score. I'd flippin' just donk it off in other, bigger, MTT's. Stupid cabron!!

If anyone is worth there salt as a poker degenerate, I shouldn't have to go into much detail about yesterday's fiasco at Poker Stars. As it was first going down, and I think it was the Daily $15k and the $3r were acting up, I was sitting playing $6/45's and actually making fun of my MTT buddies on Skype. But then Stars fixed their MTT issue... By pulling SNG's off their server to free up space and resources!!! BLAHHHHH!! You're fuxxin killing me Stars! So now, remember I'm a degenerate, I'm FORCED into either playing MTT's, Ring games (not gonna happen), or move over to Full Tilt for the day. Is it just me, or does Full Tilt just feel shitty? Their SNG lobby sucks w/ only having one game of a turbo and a non of each game!!!

Let's put it this way... This weekend was such a waste of time that I'm actually thinking about NOT depositing the $1K from my tax return. I might throw a couple hundred in so that I'm "properly" rolled for the $6/45's but why put it all in? I was gonna make the $600 Full Tilt deposit so I can get my deposit bonus going. I really SHOULD at least do that. Their SNG structure sucks though, way too fast. My only REAL hope is in the Tiers. I can just grind tokens and then eventually start playing the $24/45's w/ them. If I DO make that $600 deposit, that would DEFINITELY be it and I'd quickly just trade around half of it to get it on to Poker Stars. At least I "think" I can do that w/out canceling the bonus. If not, then I might try to solely focus on ring games so I can quickly be done w/ it.

Okay, wow... That feels better just getting it off my chest. The weekend is over and now let us see what the week provides. Strictly $6/45's, okay?

Juggling a low bankroll

I took yesterday off as a "floating holiday". My company gives out 2 per year, basically just more vacation time, but they have to be used in FULL 8hr blocks. Good thing I did, cuz we had a bit of a lay-off. It always gets crazy and I never seem to focus on the work when stuff like that happens. So, how'd I do w/ my day off?

The night before I decided to play into the night, and I scored a $11.70 Double Shootout to Sunday Million seat which got sold quickly. YesterDAY actually sucked, as my BR just dwindled to nothingness. I've become accustomed to this swing, and somehow managed to bounce back with ANOTHER $3r to SM seat... Again, we like selling quickly!! TBH, the last few days has been hazy as to WHAT I've won exactly but I might have even won a 3rd seat but my swings easily ate it up.

I'm currently +$30 from my last deposit of $100 from a few weeks back. Good news is we just finished our tax return and with my wife budgeting our bills, savings and whatnot... I'll be getting a cool $1,000 that I can do with how I please. I'll probably keep a few hundred in cash for my trips to the casino and home games, but now I'll have a real, LEGIT, roll I can work with online!!! I thought about getting 1 more monitor so that I have 2 that are exactly the same, but I might put that as a stipulation to get my BR up to X before I w/d and buy one.

I'd really like to see me take this next weekend and crank out some serious profit. If I shy away from deep field tournies and stick to satty's and $6/45 turbo SNGs, I really think i can be up to $300 by end of Sunday. Then my immediate goal will be to withstand and grow my BR up to $400-500 range before NEXT FRIDAY. If I can do that, then I'll definitely just get that monitor and give my kids the other (smaller) one I have right now. 2 x 24" monitors side by side... Ahhhhhh, we're getting close!

Good luck to everyone, and let's hope I can keep up the good work!

Reward night + $6 turbos

Well, I did it!! Last night was a successful night, thus I will be registering in the $11 $20k guarantee on Poker Stars tonight!!! I really shouldn't because I didn't really follow the rules I set out to achieve my goals. I said no more MTTs unless it's the $5k on the weekend or the $20k as a reward for the prior night's work. Last night I got into 2 or 3 MTTs and wouldn't ya know, I failed miserably in all my feeble attempts. And last night started out to be another horrible night at the $6 turbo tables. But I stuck to my guns and BAMM!!!, I scored deep in a $6/45 and also finished a few times in the $6/18's to help me finish the night up $40.

I guess what helped was that I started the night by watching 3 PXF videos. While watching the 2nd one I decided to get into a $4/180. I actually ended up really deep w/ about 4 or 5 tables to go but ended up making a move that exploded in my face. After that, I opened up a 6 table session of $6 single table SNGs and made a bit of profit. More importantly I feel easing into the multi table turbos are the best option. Me doing those RIGHT AWAY is like putting me on a tread mill that's already set to 12mph. It was as if the $4/180 was my stretching routine and the $6/9's were my warm-up laps. I'm still working out the "warm-up" kinks because again, starting last night in the multi table turbos I ended up down a good bit. It's only due to being persistent and keeping my eye on the prize. These are definitely confidence building moments. When the times are tough and you bounce back... That's what builds character!!!

Anyways! We ALL know I'm a character! :P Tonight's plan will be pretty much the same as yesterdays. I'll watch videos and probably start the night off slow again in a $4/180. My goal tonight is easily attainable: Have a $60 profitable session and to make it to the final 100 spots in the $20k.

What a weekend!

Fresh off a Patriots loss... LOL, sorry but I felt it was necessary to start off with that! :P The night before that you have Frank Mir withstanding a onslaught of Lesnar punches to comeback with a submission hold. Before the fight, I went out w/ my wife and her sister and husband. We went to see comedian Craig Gass. He's a fellow alumnus of Amphi High School, but he graduated 6 years prior to me. His act was full of spot-on impersonations (C. Walken, A. Sandler, A. Pacino, etc) and also tons of jokes that were tied in locally so it was a great show. He ended up going over his alloted time but it didn't matter because the man is pure comedy!!! We even saw one of his warm-up acts do a total dive and was booed off stage!!! So I get home from that, and as I'm firing up my computer for some pokah, my wife is rolling thru TIVO'd shows and sees we got the fight complete. WOW, forgot all about that!!!!

As for me going into the weekend with hopes of grinding my BR up northward... Well, that'll have to wait until next weekend. I ended up Friday night (well 3am Sat. morning) with my BR back to normal, thanks to a late night 3rd place in a FTP $2 mtt. Saturday morning I pretty much donated to the $6/45 community and never found traction going into Sunday morning.

Sunday morning I was feeling the Super Bowl itch and registered for a few extra MTT's than I honestly should have. I was thinking I could do wonders since I got 3rd a few nights ago. (KYLE!!! QUIT THINKING... It's killing your BR!! lol) But then I went back to my normal $6/45 schedule and damn it if I couldn't hit a stride. I'm sure I'm on the negative swing of variance and I know I have the game to make it back. I just hope I have enough of a roll to make it back up.

My goal today, when I get home and play, will be to open up 6-8 $1/45 man turbos. Not that I NEED to only play these, but I'm going to start running a session of these FIRST, before I start wasting my roll on the $6/45's. That should get me in the right mindset and get me in a grove where I will then feel more confident moving into the $6/45's again. I got to be honest... I'm having a hard time focusing on either the $6/18's or the $6/45's. I'm flopping back and forth between the two and I think I'm doing more harm than good. If anyone reads this blog, other than my wife LMAO, could you leave a comment with your personal opinion on this subject. Thanks in advance.

Looking to the future...

It seems that I have, if only temporarily, gotten outta the depths of sub $100 land. I know have a nice starting BR of a little over $300. This is mainly due to 2 nights ago I won a $11.70 Double Shootout to the Sunday Million. Along with that I've been doing real well in the $5r to the $50k on Stars each day. JackBileDuct told me about the easy money in these and boy was he right.

I've also found a nice comfort spot in my SNG play. I realized I'm great at turbos. My aggression, teamed up with the stress of faster blinds, allows me to exploit my opponent's tighter behaviors. I am starting to turn a profit in $6/18 and $6/45 man SNG's. Just last night I took 2 2nds back to back in the 45's and that helped get me over the $300 BR mark. Prior to getting my BR up this high, I was playing under VERY BAD bankroll management. True, I've proved that EVENTUALLY you can get back to a good spot... Trust me when I say it took me a few months to get back here, and with the help of a few friendly loans!!

So what do I do now that my neck is above the waterline? Well, to be honest, I plan on adhering to strong BR management principles. This means I'll be running in the $6 SNG range until I can bump up to the next turbo level. From what I can see, the next level I can play as turbos is the $12/45's and the $16/18's. I didn't see a $12/18, but obviously if they have it I'd be better getting on those. Last time my BR was around this level I was trying to maintain Silver Star status and was playing $16/9's. That was a super bad idea and as of now I don't feel confident in single table SNG's anyways.

I can confidently say that I will be playing WAAAY less MTT's, as the variance is obviously too high. The only ones that pop out as ones I'm planning on playing are the $5.50-$5k GTD on Saturday and Sundays since it's so early of a start. And if I do good the night before I plan on rewarding myself with an entry into the next days' $11-$20k GTD. And obviously I'm going to get into each Sunday Hundred Grand (the new $200k lottery weeee) and any PXF sub mtt's.

With the weekend upon us, I'm excited to see what these next few days will bring. I think I'm going to be pulling a late nighter again tonight. It's amazing how my track record is best on Friday and Saturday LATE nights. I don't know if it's because everyone in the house is asleep and I can focus better or if it has to do with the Euro donkeys coming out to play!?!?!?!

That's it for now. Here's to a profitable weekend! See you at the tables...

The bigger I am, the harder I fall!!

Today was my neice's 7th birthday, and we celebrated at Skate Country. Originally I was not going to skate. But then they announced THE RACES!!!!! My competitive, and clown-like, nature took over and I was soon at the booth getting me size 11's.

We had my bro & sis-in-law, older nephew, my daughter and several other parents. I remembered from childhood that the ref's or skate-staff get into the action as well. So while the kids were going I was yelling over to them "Hey you're not racing and if you do you gotta do 2 laps!!!!" So dude takes my challenge and off we go...

You'll see a big guy, right in the middle of the pack, fall right from the start. I'm then 2nd to last coming around the turn and if you watch closely you'll see my arms fly up and BOOOOOM!! It's too dark to really see but as the camera pans back towards the end of the race, that's ME trying to make sure that bastard ref/staff dude didn't beat me on HIS 2 LAPS!! (but my sister-in-law and daughter sure did!!!)

Ask Rizen: "How do you play AA w/ it raised to you?"

I'm real bad about keeping up w/ my blog reading, but I finally got deeper into Rizen's blog and found a "Ask Rizen" question that has been on my mind lately. I really liked Rizen's answer because he covers short stack and big stack play! Here it is, and I hope Rizen doesn't mind me using this. I got it from his site at:
http://www.rizenpoker.com/ Look for his 12/16/07 blog! And while you're there read the rest and make it a daily read you donkey!!!

Q: When someone raises and you have aces, do you like the idea of flat calling to induce more callers/people to raise behind? My point is I was balancing the idea of having more people call which means bigger pots, but more variance. Is there a certain stack size where you choose one play over the other?

A: If i flat call with aces usually the idea is to induce a raise, not more callers. With aces I really want to be heads up or three way, but no more than that. It's just way too high a variance play to induce five or six callers with aces. As far as stack sizes go, i'm more willing to call and risk getting more callers the shorter my stack is. The bigger my stack is the more likely I am to just try and take it down early in the hand. This is partially because of the reverse implied odds we give when our stack is big, but the main reason is if i already have a fairly big stack I'm usually being fairly aggressive anyways and can often build a big pot by just playing my hand aggressively. With a shorter stack, I'm much more likely to take gambles to try and build it into a bigger stack.

No more poker site reading at work :(

Why did I have to reboot? In my reboot my company uploaded a new security provision that DOES NOT ALLOW ME TO SURF the web on poker sites. No more PXF at work. No more Pocket 5's either, no 2+2, no Bluff mag, no CardPlayer... The only site, other than poker blogs, I can read is Poker Road!!! Go Bear!

WTF am I supposed to do now? Work? OMG!!! GG work...WP

Zee and Roothlus stopped by the house...

So I'm playing pokah last night when the wife comes in begging for my "undivided attention". I'm thinking one of our children got hurt, right? She says she went outside and heard a whining/whimpering sound... She followed it to my Jeep, topless--just so to paint the picture, and opened the door to find 2 puppies. Damn, they must of been fuh fuh fuh freezin out there. (6pm-ish and prob close to 50-60 degrees--I don't pay attention to stuff like that)

A few hours into the evening, with my niece and nephew spending the night, I come to find out that "we" have already named our pups. < Z and Juno > One of them obviously was from the new movie with the same name, "Juno". While the other one is like "Big Z" from some cartoon or kids show... My niece, Marley, explained it like I must be from some other planet since I didn't pick up on the name drop. Kids are precious!!

I just couldn't get those 2 names to stick. Maybe it's because I'm selfish and deep, deep down I wanted the pride of name selection... Naw!!! That couldn't be it. :P The one with the red collar was Z, and the blue collar Juno. For some reason Z turned into, "Hey, why not ZeeJustin?" (edit, we had to leave off Justin... it just DIDN'T work) We'll get back to that one, because that started Patee and I on a cool poker themed name game. Here are few we actually thought of:

Push and Fold (my personal favorite combo)
Small Blind and Big Blind
Limp and Mini (mini sure don't sound right for a dude though)
JohnnyBax and Sheets :D
Below and Above
And any combo of various online names I think would make good "dog" names like Rizen, ch0ppy, Mr. Menlo, THAY3R and Roothlus. We decided on the last two, or so I thought!! I get home and it's a "we've decided on Z and Roothlus". So that's how I got back to thinking I personally would call Z: ZeeJustin Here's a pic of Zee:

And so that's how Zee and Roothlus stopped by the house...

Ketchup...

If I have any loyal readers (prob not even Mik since it's been a while, he's no doubt booted me off his radar) then I want to apologize for not bringing more exciting blogs. Personally, I've been getting hosed by PokerStars and I'm just trying to ride out my doom switch. I know I'll get up there again with some wins, so I'm not panicking. I know I have the capability to play well, and I'm learning everyday by being on Skype with better players than myself and reading and watching videos on PXF.

No need to report on a downward spiral right? I don't see a need to show my micro level bad beats, since we all know micro donks call w/ anything, and PokerStars loves helping the donkeys feel like they could get lucky from time to time. I think that PokerStars must look at me as a good player, since they obviously don't let me win when I need to! Okay, I kid a little cuz anyone that has seen me play knows I'm willing to go in behind hoping to get a fold. Should I get a call, there are always the suckouts I can count on.

I think that's my current issue though... I'm not playing like a full maniac. I just read in "Inside The Poker Mind" by John Feeney that there is a so called "Semi-Maniac"... That's TOTALLY ME!!!! Quoting the book, "...they have a mix to their play, do not play every hand and sometimes just limps in... though they are aggro after the flop, they can lay down a hand..." Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've been working hard at mixing up my play and thinking before coming into the pot or re-raising.

So I ask you... Is being a "semi-maniac" a bad thing? It can work well right? Is it the same as LAG? I guess I can't rely on my own definition of my play, and I'll just have to see what people label me as in the future.

Megan Moreno's Benefit Poker Tournament

My friend from work had a benefit tournament in memory of his daughter who passed on August 8th. I really figured there would be more people from my poker home game, but whatever... They're all chops and they OBVIOUSLY have something better to do than think of others!!! So hey, I had a blast. My good friend Rene was there, and he's the kind of guy that you can pretty much count on being there when you ask/need him to be. He's truly a nice guy, I can't wait to DJ his big 30th B-Day party (he thinks he's not gonna make it to then... I have a ongoing bet, guess we'll find out in a few more years!!! LOL)

I went out when I pushed OTT of someone else only to fine RENE calling us both. He had top pair to my 2nd pair to the other players JUNK. AI w/ junk.. I figured as much, that's why I went over the top. In fact I play w/ Rene at my home game so he knows I gotta have something. The chance of me flopping 2pr was slim, especially since he had top pair... So I wasn't upset at all. I'd rather give him my stack instead of someone else. He wound up 4th, just outta the prizes but again it was all for a good cause. So we all win!!!

So that picture above is of me at the tables just past the first break. The one huge hand I had before going out was actually a crazy sick read/call. I raise UTG w/ A60 (7 handed at a benefit mtt?) get called by the button who called my BS AJ bluff w/ ducks and won at showdown early in. Flop comes 7AQ. I check, then call her bet. Turn is a blank, I check and call her bet again. The river is another Queen which totally scared me and also I was looking to hit my kicker before I made a big move. I raise 5k (blinds I think were 300-600) and she RR's me.... I go into the tank and called w/ 12k left behind. I show my Ace and take it down!!!! No one at the table expected her to be bluffing.. :P Anyways, she's the one that was SS where I went over the top.... Ahhh, I love this game! After I get booted I go over to my wife's table, and she's just wreckin' shop. She even limped UTG w/ K7s(DA BUCKLOX!!!!!!!)and wouldn't you guess it, the flop comes 797. She takes down a 70k pot. Around 6pm she started getting tired (obv. she doesn't have that degenerate spirit in her) and decided to split her 83k chipstack between the 5 left at her table. She just wanted me to make sure the poker world knows that she left AS THE CHIP LEADER! :P I love you sweets, you rocked!!!

This last picture is of an old friend Will Coleman. Haven't seen him in a few years, and when I first showed up he was blabbin' about taking the entire tourney down. Needless to say, he's a chop that doesn't know what he's doing... But he's fun nontheless. Let's just say he tried straddle bet, but come to find out he was in the BB. LMAO Here's a pic of the donkey:

Tonight is a big PXF night!!!

OMG, I almost missed it. Tonight is the October sub tourney on PokerStars. I took down the July one, so I've been wanting to show it wasn't just luck, even though it probably was! LOL

Also, for the first time since joining, my team (SHEETS) won the quarterly team challenge and I'm enrolled in the Sheets Private HU matches tonight too. As I've discussed with many others, I feel I have a great HU game... But only when the sng or mtt has gotten to the HU point. Starting fresh w/ HU is a bit more of a challenge since I use the blinds to my advantage in later HU matches. Hopefully my ADD won't kick in and I want to make Top 4, that's my goal.

I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow. Stay tuned...

-ReddRaider

Thanks Lefty!!

So I go onto PXF to just watch a few videos (innisint's slump vol. 2) and I check in chat and Lefty is basically demanding that we all get into a 4/180. I don't usually like those cuz they take forever to FT and my game seems to fit into the turbo world.

Well, I TID and to be honest I really needed the BR boost after a shitty Sunday of rivers. I immediately took out $120 to pay for the new Family Guy Ultimate DVD pack from Amazon, which will ship out Nov. 5th.

I love cashing out and rewarding myself!!

I tried my best... But Stars kicked my ass this weekend

I was all set to have a killer weekend. SilverStar was in the bag and I figured if my BR could gain traction I might even be able to rough it out in the $27's for the added FPP's. I think I only ended up playing one, and that was one of those "If I can only win this, my BR will be okay again" plays. Obviously retarded right? Well no too bad, since I wasn't getting any love in the $16 turbos. I cashed only once (2nd) in 10 tables so I decided that if I played 2 more $16's it'd be the same as one $27 and I promised myself I'd concentrate on that one!!! I did... and BUBBLED!! *gdit*

Sunday was river day for me. I kid you not, at least 15 times I was rivered for huge pots that either crippled me or knocked me out all together. Had a mondo lead in the early Daily $15k Sunday morning (getting warmed up for the lottery) and was out just past the first break.

But the big buzz kill was the $5k guarantee $5.50 entry. Just over 2800 entered, and I finished 98th when I pushed w/ 3M having QJo... SB calls w/ Q7s and flops 7x7... I'm drawing to like 1% w/ only runner runner Jacks being savior. This guy didn't need to call, and even if my push range is big, calling w/ Q7s is just retarded!!! Flat out Corkie!!! Becka Becka!!! Fuggin idiot!!! Oh well, I score $19 for my troubles... WEEEEEE!!!!

I made SilverStar

*Weee* I made SilverStar tonight on PokerStars for the first time. It's only the 12th... GoldStar here I come!!! And to think, just 334 $16 turbo sng's to go!!!

I think the $12/180's are just perfect

Last night I fire up a few $16turbos and barely make my money back so I decided I'd register for a $12/180 turbo (5min levels) on PokerStars. I've gotten great results so far in this field, and again last night I finished 3rd.

It just amazes me how these end up playing out. You can totally play tight (top 10 hands, maybe top 20) until you get to the 75/150 blinds and depending where your stack is you might be able to chill out until the 100/200 levels. At that level you'll find many players w/ less than 6M so they're life's on the line. Usually my life is on the line too but I've found that if I can make it into the top 50 players you usually get nits who are trying to cash ITM with small stacks. I haven't figured out all the things, but damn if I haven't had great results in these. In fact, my sharkscope shows the $12's as being my only profitable game. :P

So if you see a green chameleon avatar and the name Kyle Million behind it, watch out!!!

Getting close to SilverStar

I'm less than 200 points away from SilverStar. I thought it'd take me the entire month, but it's only the 10th and I'm almost done! The last 3 days I've lost $75 total while trying to play a few sets so it's not too bad but my online BR isn't the biggest because of my $1k withdrawal! So I'm trying to not just breeze thru the rest of my balance before I conquer the SilverStar.

By buddy has me concentrating pretty heavily and we have a new goal of getting to the $60 turbos by the end of the year. As long as my BR doesn't hit a nasty variance, I can keep on trucking in the level I'm at ($16turbos). To get 1500 FPP for SilverStar you only need 300 games a month at the $16 level, so I figure I can do about 500 games a month. That should be a good sample size per increase in game. I could be wrong, and since no one is reading my blog right now I won't know if I'm thinking correctly until I go thru the motions myself.

I rock the turbos!!!

Friday night, probably closer to midnight, I reg'd for a $22/180max MTT. Only 171 entered but it had turbo blinds so it really played like the normal $12/180 sngs. What can I say, I run good. I seem to push at the exact moment that PokerStars feels like rewarding a suck-out. When I push though, busted railers forget this one, it's not like I'm trying to get a caller. So if you call and I suck you out, too bad!!

Anywho... After a good 5 1/2 hours or so I ended up HU w/ a very small chip lead. I think it was even first hand HU where I have K2s and call a preflop 3x raise. Flop comes 279 rainbow and I push. He calls, and is AI, w/ AKo and my 2's hold to TID!!! Woot, Woot!!! If you read below in the red texted posting, once I get to HU I feel my image that I created totally throws off my opponents and gives me a pretty good edge.

My OPR at this moment in time is 97% so that's friggin dope. My Sharkscope is now in the positive and staying there for the first time since...well, EVER!!! As of today I'm +$150 in profit for SNG's and the main scores that have gotten my big jumps have been the $12/180's.

Last night I was watching my homie TreBomber play a 4 table SNG set and I was trying to tell him what I'd do in certain situations. I got bored and decided to open up a quick (seriously, all over before 2 hrs) $12/180 turbo SNG on Stars. Around 27 left I start sucking fools out and acquire a legion of shit talking railers. Funny how they stuck around to see me FT and eventually end up 6th for $99 (or $87 profit). I know I could have played better and made it further, but I will admit that I was paying too much attn to the railers and not my game. Truth was I also didn't get any hands that I felt confident enough to push with. Anyways, haters will always hate. I've been reading jhub3000's blog and he's basically THE TOP 6max player online...period!!! He's made like $180k YTD and is pushing for $300k. He's been blogging about haters talking trash to him and he's had over 32k games to date... Crazy how no matter what kind of stats you have, someone will always hate. Oh yeah, BTW, I hate Bill Gates. He's a donkey and doesn't know how to run a company!!! LOL (if you didn't catch that joke... go piss off! LOL)

Withdrawal symptoms

OMG, it feels soooo good to withdraw money for toys!!! I had to exchange an old XBox 360 "Core" system at BestBuy but they didn't have any core systems left so paid the $150 difference and got the Elite system. Glad I did too, cuz on the same trip I bought a phat 24" Westinghouse monitor. HDMI inputs...this thing is suuuuuweeeet!!!

The few times I run... I run soooo SICK!

So this last weekend I deposited a total of $200 and felted both times. Got a quick loan from a backer, and starting grinding the $16turbos. Yeah, I know what you're thinking "Was the loan that FRIGGIN' big?"... No, but I've found that trying to grind you BR up from the $10 and under SNG's is just insane. Congrats to all those that can handle it, but I seem to lose my shirt every time I try.

So, fellow donkeys that have problems loading $100 and building it up from that... What I might recommend is to stop spending time in lower limits, and concentrate on the $13/6max turbos and the $16/9man turbos on PokerStars. Sure, if you lose you're done... but if you're any good and just play solid, tight poker anything is possible. But my biggest earner right now is the $12/180 turbos. Maybe it's cuz I'm such a donkey and play too many hands in a non-turbo where I'm getting in trouble. W/in the last 4 days I've secured a 2nd and a WIN!!!! I am, for the first time since joining www.pokerxfactor.com, above the $0+ line on Sharkscope.

Sure I got lucky in my win last night ($12/180) when we got past the ITM bubble, and I started getting a low M of 3. I shoved w/ 95s in the CO and was called by SB w/ AA. I flopped my 5 and turned my 9... Yeah, I ROCK!!! Then I was down around the FT when I got J4 and was in a must push situation w/ around 4 M. AK insta-calls and I rivered the Jack to more than double up and put me up in top 3 chips. From there it was all about being the table bully. Thanks to all the help from pokerxfactor and the fellas for helping me improve my game. If you're reading this and you ARE NOT a member, you really owe it to yourself and your BR.

HU Play, a response to a PXF thread

Someone asked how to play HU better, and this was my response. I feel I laid out some good points and wanted to keep this for later viewing. Here's the response:

Everyone knows I'm a donkey, right? But actually, I'm real good when a SNG or a MTT gets to heads up. I play tons of hands during my games though, so by the time I'm HU my opponent usually can't put me on a tight range of raising and calling hands. I really feel that THAT'S where my edge comes from (the momentum leading up to HU).

I'm not bragging, again I'm a donkey. But I feel I understand the betting patterns and also the post flop play needed to be successful HU.

Disclaimer: The tips below are really my thoughts AS OF NOW, not necessarily how I always played each of those scenarios. Obviously each match has different situations, but I hope this is a good sample base to get something out of. I'd like feedback from anyone, please feel free.

Here are a few tips that come to mind:

1. I play this similar to how i play BB vs SB battles if folded to the blinds. If I'm SB and entering pot, I don't limp. Rather always bet 3xBB (never change it up IMO). If I'm BB and SB limps in, I 3xBB him back to gauge hand strength. But I'm doing this all game long, so they should know by now it's my ritual. It really helps cuz post flop is where most people have trouble playing HU (IMO).

2. Always continuation bet. No matter the cards that flop. I feel doing the same raise pre and post flop hides your hand strength and if repopped or the turn doesn't help you can get away from the hand. Another 3xBB bet will not kill you and I find I'm usually taking down pots due to the texture of flop. Obv. being in SB is best scenario cuz showing strength preflop and postflop.

3. If you feel you need to switch up your raising (I got this from BeLOWaBOVE) then smooth out your stack. (I.E. blinds are 100/200 and you have 2490 in your stack... instead of the usually 300 bet, either a 290 or a 340 bet can be a huge difference in throwing off your competition)

4. Take your time winning small pots. You don't want to flip flop a 6/3k lead into a 3/6k behind in one hand. (if you see this in my HH, disregard, again...im a donkey!!!)

5. Pay attention to when you get the VILLAIN to 12BB's and lower. Then start applying SAGE. Great article: http://www.cardplayer.com/magazine/article/15250

Here are a few example HH's. If you don't know, you can just type in the hand number you want to start with on the bottom left:the hand range of my HU play:

Yesterday's PXF private win: Hands 143-162
http://www.pokerxfactor.com/servlet/pxf?t=myhand2&a=mv&handid=77572

My July Sub tourney win: Hands 350-385
http://www.pokerxfactor.com/servlet/pxf?t=myhand2&a=mv&handid=73889

A $12/6max where I got finished too quick...maybe you can find what NOT to do: Hands 54-63
http://www.pokerxfactor.com/servlet/pxf?t=myhand2&a=mv&handid=74513

My $2.20 mtt w/ 400+ people, Hands 352-363 Battle back from 171k vs 456k
http://www.pokerxfactor.com/servlet/pxf?t=myhand2&a=mv&handid=69848

But here are the funny ones. If you remember gerrysaga aka jr77suited now (from what I hear) he challenged me to some HU sngs. Now I must admit the next day he spanked me cuz he had me pissed and tilted, but that's another story. Here are my back to back wins against him. And also great example of how to play vs a maniac HU.

1st win, 24 hands:

2nd win, 17 hands:

(sorry, i dont have the losing HH's up, obv)

ReddRaider is dead!!

A few weeks back FTP closed my ReddRaider account... and now PokerStars is following suit. Knock a brotha down when he starts building himself up..... very nice guys!!! Fuggin' bullies! Anywho, I was able to get a screenshot of Pocket 5's profile which actually shows my 3 greatest mtt's anyways!! Since I was a donkey on my old accounts it'll be a challenge to bring some stats to these names and turn around my nasty ROI I've accumulated with these accounts.

My run ended :(

Welp, yesterday I got home and played prob 5mtt's and 3 sngs and lost everyone. I called it a night, as I burned a little over $100 in the process. I realize I need to take shots at the Double Shootout to the PokerStar's Sunday Million, so it's all just a process.

Good News is I've got $300 moved over to epassporte and I'm going to try my hardest not to dip into that. I have many things I'm looking forward to in the future. So here's what I'm looking to save up for (I figure if I write it down it'll be that much closer to coming true):

1. $650 for a 24" View Sonic monitor
2. $1k~ for J. Brogie's Bachelor Party in Vegas
3. $2k~ for December vacation....ROAD TRIP!!!!!!

Okay, let's pray that I can stay focused!!

Sweet run during my B-Day WEEK!!!

--Got a Sunday Warm-up tix from $3r ($6 total invested) and kept the T$

--Got (2) Sunday Million tix from Double Shootouts

--998th in Sunday Hundred Grand, out of over 19k people (Cashed: $38.41)

--621st in Sunday Million, out of over 6500 people (Cashed: $394)

I never thought I'd cash in one, let along both on the same day!!! I can honestly say the above results could not have happened w/out my training here at PXF as well as the cool friends I've made in the chatroom. Also, another special thanks to Tingate (jtee to some) for staying on MSN voice chat from start of SHG to end of SM!!! (over 5 hours!!!)

Below are my HH's, PM me any feedback or questions!!! Peace out!

Enough said... The stats don't lie: I SUCK!

So in 1068 games I've managed to lose $1,338.00. These are depressing results for sng's. You'd figure I would have learned something from the books I've read, my training on www.pokerxfactor.com, the conversations I'm having with other players about hands and even just the experience gained. You'd figured I'd be better, I'd be making a +ROI.... But NOOOOOOOOOO, I can't seem to do that. SO!!! I'm taking a break. I'm still going to be on PXF, and I'm still going to read my books and have the occasional home game. I'll still play live and go to the casinos with confidence. But I'm not going to run thru my money like this until my wife is out of school and back into the workforce. I make enough money where we can live comfortable, but I'm just playing with fire every time I deposit more money online. Even videogames get more value extracted from them in the long run.

I know I'll be back on the poker saddle one day, so this decision does not make me sad. It would however make me sad to see me continue living on the edge and having something bad happen when we don't really have the extra "safe money" saved up for that rainy day. I know this will make me hungrier and better, and when I come back I'll also have saved a bigger entry BR so I'll be able to concentrate on bigger/better buy-ins.

Fixed Limit Oma-what?

After taking 2nd in my Friday night fellas home game, I got up early (uh... how about never went to bed, LOL) and headed out to DMV for a quick selling of a quad! Then my wife and I went to Casino Del Sol were I was planning on signing up for the 11:30pm $35 buy in $2k Guarantee mtt. We got there sooooo early, that there weren't even ring games going. Just this little 3 table Fixed Limit Omaha H/L tourney. I was gonna go play some slots but then a bug hit me and I asked how much it'd cost.

Come to find out it's only $10 and I figured it'd be worth the time wasted just to have some fun. I sit down to a whopping 900 chips... OH NO!!!! It's a rebuy!!! LMAO I went busto quick, but then did a double rebuy and never had to look back. I was at the "rebuy" table. I whole mix-up of nuts. I got 3 hands in a row, just before the end of the rebuy round that just solidified my place. I got a turned boat, a rivered boat, and flopped a flush all while the blinds were around 500/1000-1k/2k. Luck also played a factor in that I was late to act on all three hands so due to guys trying to push in their chips to be under the 3k rebuy mark and then me just reraising them, I had a serious 5 to 1 lead on 2nd in chips when the rebuys ended.

I went on an aggression rampage then and put on a BIGSTACK clinic.... I coulda stayed outta a few hands near the end but all in all when it got down to 4 handed, they stopped play, counted up chips and payed out accordingly and I tied for 1st. $190 profit - $35 entry into 11:30 (A9 < AK) = $155 profit for day at casino. GG ME!!!

Tclark set me up for failure.

My PXF buddy, Tclark828, went up the FTP tier and won the final tier 3 sng for $310. Right after this, I got some money into my old FTP account and went for the gusto. First 3 or so sngs went out quick, then i finally won 2 6max sngs for $6.60 each entry. I quickly jumped both wins into final tier 3 games.

That stage is real soft in that they don't play too loose to start, so I built up a nice chip stack right away. Somehow I donked outta the first one, but had an amazing table image and CL in my last tier 3 sng. We get down to the bubble, and I've peddled some chips away and was 3rd in chips. The CL had a buddy pop into rail asking how he was, and he started bragging.

At that moment I pulled in the horns and decided that I'd make him eat his words. Sure enough, the chips got passed around and I eventually had a gargantuan CL (6k vs 2k vs 2k vs 2k). I must give kudos to these players, cuz they knew their bubble play very well. The knew push/fold very well, and ICM. I was getting nervous and felt ahead on some hands so I called w/ something like AhQh to be outdone by smaller pair. Infact, in my AQs hand I ran up against K5 w/ a 5 hitting the board. I can't blame the guy since he didn't a huge stack. But making calls like that and getting out flopped is what led to the demise of my playing.

......I ended up BUBBLE BOY!!!! Such a let down!

Later....ReddRaider

Got busted by Full Tilt Poker

Long story short, I had my original account that I was using before pokerxfactor.com But when setting up w/ PXF i wanted to track my results starting fresh. Welp, Full Tilt Poker caught on to this and froze my ReddRaider account. This being after a great tourney weekend and making 2 $100 w/d's into my ePassporte account.

It all started with the 2nd w/d getting "Voided". I then tried logging into FTP and got kiboshed! I tried resetting my password and again was kibashed! I had to email support and that is how I found out they froze my account.

They at least offered to send me a check or transfer my money back into my old account, so we're good there. In the downtime, I had to put money in my PokerStars account and try to build a BR through there. OUCH...I'm not good against PS players, for some reason.

So, I also did this with PokerStars as my original account there was "Kyle Million". Due to THIS issue w/ FTP I'm going to switch back to playing on my original account. I hear they don't give you an option to get your money back... So I don't wanna be caught with my pants down again!

A long road back to where I was...

Well, today I'm starting with a seriously low BR. $50 on FTP and $21 on PS.

I have confidence though that I can build it back up to $150 on FTP and $50 on PS by the end of today.

My goals for FTP BR

First off: FTP means Full Tilt Poker, and BR means Bank Roll.

- I will only play 45's/90's when I get to $50 increases (i.e. $100, $150, $200) or until BR is $300
- I will play one table at a time until I get my BR up to $100
- I will play 2 tables until $150, and 4 tables until $300
- No token sng's until I have my BR at $300

These are pretty simple to start out with, but I want something that I can go back to if I need a reminder of what I'm working for. Obviously I'll readjust these once my BR hits $300. But $300 is my first attainable goal I'm seeking.

Until then,
